posted a message on New Sub-Section Vote: Hardware
Most posts typically fall under the category of "will my computer run X?, or "is this a good video card for playing X?" which is why I vote we split the subsection into two parts - software and hardware. People can post all of their hardware problems and questions in the hardware section while the software section should be for anyone who is developing software, application troubleshooting, ect. It would make things a lot cleaner and I wouldn't have to root through hardware related threads to find software related threads.

posted a message on How original is original?
A game can be a clone of another game but I believe success comes from how well it deviates from its clone (along with many other factors such as craftsmanship and depth). For example, Minecraft has had many clones (like you mentioned). Manic digger was one of them but it will never lift ground because it borrows almost every concept from Minecraft. On the other hand, there is Terraria, which could be considered a Minecraft clone. However, it deviates a great deal from Minecraft in the fact that it has 2D gameplay, different textures and a multitude of concepts and objects that do not exist in Minecraft.

Eventually, other clones and games that borrow heavily from other games will naturally tire because lack of originality with boredom. Success depends on how fresh your ideas are.

I fear people, unfortunately. It's actually less of a fear than it is anxiety and frustration.

posted a message on Which programming language should I learn?
It really all depends on what you want to do. Programming languages are generally categorized according to their purposes.

For general purpose programming and application programming, you will want to use a language such as C# or C++. They can handle a variety of tasks ranging from mathematics to game programming.

There is a division of programming languages that would fall under category of system programming languages, programming languages that are used in low level applications and operating systems. C is a good example of this. It is difficult to use but very in depth.

Then there are the scripting languages which are used to add onto existing code but make up the bulk of a program less often. These would include languages such as JavaScript, Python, Ruby and Perl. They're robust and easy to use.

Markup languages wouldn't really fall under the category of "programming languages" but are still useful for web page design. These include languages such as XML and HTML.

posted a message on if you could have any super power what would it be?
I would choose the power to absorb knowledge with ease, remember and retain information effortlessly, have increased cognition and the ability to derive meaning from knowledge.

    Basically, extreme mental prowess.

Perhaps you have unnecessary tasks running in the background that are giving the programs lag. Also, what games are you recording?

Also, you could tell us how much RAM you have, what your video card is, how much hard drive space you have, ect.

posted a message on Oh bloody hell not again....
What makes me cringe is having to listen to pop singers devoid of talent who tend to think that the best thing in life is going to parties and getting hammered.

What I enjoy is a wide range of music including classic 80's/70's songs, classical music, and fast paced symphonic music such as Rob Dougan and the like. In my opinion, talent will always trump over popularity.

posted a message on If you could take back all the hours you spent on the internet and use them to practice one skill, what skill would you choose?
Computer programming. Due to the number of hours I've spent on the internet, I'd probably be a god at it.

Fortunately, I already do have some C#/C++ programming skills.

posted a message on If Youtube Was A Country, What Would It Be Like?
It would be a total state of anarchy. The only time citizens would crawl out of their hiding places would be to throw rocks at each other and rip down other people's belief systems before escalating into flame wars which ravage the country.

I would prefer to dispense of courteous phrases such as "thank you", "this is too much" or "you really shouldn't have".
