1GB of RAM is not enough to run MC, or pretty much any 3D game for that matter.
Your processor is too slow.

I'd wait until 1.4, there's no good examples AON.
If you look in the spawn beacon code, you'll see it does it based off of area of effect. This is what you need to do, except apply it to a small area around the player when holding the item.
Look in the splash potion code, there might be something there.

The audio is in a separate file, for separate audio editing. (Plus, when recording both video and audio in the same file, they tend to desync . The settings thing is being worked on, by Nouish, once I tell him exactly which values need to be saved.
The Tekkit compatibility is just making it run off of Forge instead of ModLoader. However, if tekkit is 1.2.5, this mod for forge WILL BE 1.3.2, so you'll have to get a Tekkit version for 1.3.2.
The intro / outro you have to do yourself. It's simple to do in any video editor, and would just be a pain to code.

Yes, it should be. It does not modify base classes. (Working on Tekkit Compatibility ATM).
Updating is not exactly an easy task, especially optimizations, as it requires a LOT of math to do.
A week or so, though is very very loose.
