    posted a message on Design of a slimeblock/piston platform - a question.

    Hello,

I have a bit of experience with slimeblocks and redstone, but not a large amount so I would like a bit of guidance on a particular task I have.

I am trying to build a flying platform that can move in two directions. I already have the engine, but now I need the actual platform.

The platform will be pushed on opposite ends (depending on the direction of travel), and walking on the platform should be as pleasant as possible. Ideally, I will be able to tile and expand the platform as large as I want it to be. Also, the platform need not be a completely level surface as long as it can be walked on

Might anyone have ideas on how to achieve this?

    Thank you all very much!

posted a message on Long, Exact Delay
I want to use a portion of a mathematical sequence, around a thousand integers long, and convert it to notes. Then, I'll play the notes at a rate of 5/second to make some sort of music. One of the properties of this sequence is that it has many repeats. I don't want to waste resources for a thousand noteblocks, so i loop segements that i can so that only a stack or so of noteblocks are needed. So pretend 'A' is a sequence of notes/intergers. I need to repeat A twice, and then play B. So i set off A and B at the same time, but put a 176.4 second delay on B so that by the time A has played twice, B will start seamlessly.

The extreme delay circuit with two chains of repeaters seems to be perfect for my needs, but i can't figure out the input and output.

Hello, i would like to make a 176.4 second delay, but, i don't want to use so many resources. Is there anyway to make a long exact delay without using hundreds of repeaters?

    i found this
    http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Redstone_Circuits#Extreme_Delay_Circuits
but i have no idea where the input and output are.

posted a message on Sugar Cane Growth
The article on the wiki seems to be wrong about the sugar cane growth so i did some experiments by growing 50 sugarcane and then checking on them every 5 minutes. Checking and planting took 20 seconds, so it should be relatively accurate.

    https://docs.google....FfOFNjOWc#gid=0

The Chance of Growth chart shows the probability that any given sugarcane has grown from 1 high to 2 high at any point. The curve seems to match the curve of the last stage of wheat shown in this spreadsheet

    https://docs.google....hHQ0RfVnc#gid=4

Which supports the idea that sugarcane is grown in the phases, and once it has been through a certain amount of phases, it grows one block. Because wheat does that too, only visibly. I think?

According to the wiki, sugarcane grows after 16 'phases' which last an average of 20 seconds. I know nothing that lasts an average of 20 seconds to do with ticks, but block updates happen roughly ever 47 seconds. This doesn't make much sense, but I also read about a chance in growth rate after 1.8, only on the sugarcane farming page and not on the sugarcane page. So i tweaked the numbers a bit.

After 15 minutes, 36% had grown and after 20 minutes, 72% had grown. 17.5 minutes is an inflection point, so we can be reasonably sure that at 17.5 minutes, 50% are grown. 17.5 minutes is 1050 seconds, or an average of 22.34 block ticks. It is possible that sugarcane goes through 21 block ticks, and on the 22nd, it grows. (Or maybe similar numbers because 50 might have been too low a sample size)

The Percent that Grew Chart shows how many of the remaining sugarcane grew. For example, after 15 minutes, the percent that grew is 47%. This means that 47% of the remaining sugarcane that had not grown at 10 minutes are now grown. There is a strange curve in this chart, but i'm not sure if it's supposed to be there, or maybe i just made a mistake somewhere.

Also, not exactly sure if this should go here :P

posted a message on Sugan Cane Growth?
That's what the wiki says, but it arrives at a figure of 5 minutes and 20 seconds for a block of growth by multiplying 16 phases of growth by 20 seconds for the length of each phase on average. This makes no sense to me because i've never heard of this phase that takes 20 seconds; the closest thing is a block tick which affects 48 blocks per chunk and a block is affected on average, once every 47 seconds or so. Also there is something about 1.8 that slowed the sugar cane growth, but this is only on the sugar cane farming page and not on the sugar cane page on the wiki.

The wiki says something about going 16 phases with an average length of 20 seconds. Each phase it goes through, it'll supposedly set off a BUD. Shouldn't the growth use block tick though? And that has an average of 47 seconds

posted a message on Help with redstone device
Hello, i need some help with a redstone device
    I need a redstone circuit/device that will,
-be triggered by an item falling on a pressure plate
-pressure plate should somehow store the fact that the item was dropped on it into a "memory"
-the fact that an item has fallen onto the pressure pad is able to be recovered with a button, lever, or other input.
-a multiple amount of these devices must be able to be hooked up to a single output. This output will display the total amount of pressure pads pressed, but not the amount each pressure pad was pressed. (Essentially two water streams combining and adding all the items in them would work).
-device must be one use and cannot be reused again before reset. (Either dropping a stack of cobblestone or dropping a cobblestone onto the pad every 6 minutes should not make the device register more than one input, or "vote".
-device should be resonable easy to reset (not more than several minute).
-should be as compact as possible

I need this for a anonymous voting device, a seperate "device" would be built for each person with a simple dropchest waterflow filter to remove other player's items.

If you have any other ideas for an anonymous voting device (that cannot be faked/cheated), please post them. (Server has lwc and dropchest).

    Thanks!

I used worldedit, which is amazingly easy to download. Using a combination of
    /brush sphere sand 6
    /brush sphere sand 3
    /brush sphere gravel 6
    /brush sphere gravel 3
and just randomly placed sand :biggrin.gif:

This is just my first try to make a floating island thingy...the bottom didn't turn out exactly as i expected but i'm happy with it. I just got world-edit yesterday and was messing around with brushes. It's sorta a survival map, but one you acquire all the essential items, it's pretty open to what you can do. Tell me if it's too easy or hard, i'd try it myself, but i already know the whole map.

Just drag it into minecraft saves folder to "install" i guess...

    Download

    saaaaaaaand

    underneath

at the base of some of the mounds of sand/gravel

    Helpful hints:

Hidden chests often found on top of mountains
Hidden chests found in deep shafts that open on top of mountain
Ore is underground and rare ore including obsidian in hanging formations
It's possible to get to all the dimensions, i haven't done anything on the other dimensions though

posted a message on Does lightning strike directly downwards
Does lightning strike directly downwards? Minecraft shows lightning as bending, and twisting, but is that just visual or not? If it only strikes directly downwards, trees and flammable constructions that are hit by lightning should put themselves out.

Also, the minecraft wiki says something about lightning passing through blocks to reach the ground? How does minecraft know what is the ground? Might it pass through a tree house and set the inside in fire?

I need to know because i'm interested in making something like this, but don't want it to burn down, no matter how small the chance.

posted a message on Do Mobs spawn in leaves
The wiki isn't exactly clear about this, the tenses are confusing. Can mobs spawn on leaves in a SMP server? They're marked as opaque in fast and transparent in fancy according to the wiki. It also says that on SMP, leaves "always behaved as if running in "Fast" graphics mode" which means mobs can/could spawn on them. Is this still the case?

    Quote from Itanthias

hmmm... If we had a picture I could give you a specific solution, but if you need more arc, place the removed back TNT in the front, AKA have a shorter rail with more layers. That should solve your problem.

i'd add more rails, but i'd need a delay and rewire all the redstone. this gets an arc of about 15 degreess

posted a message on TNT Cannon Science -- Revived!
I have a problem with my cannons, the arc is too low.

I've tried replacing the launch block with a cake, slab, full block, and my original slab was the best. Cake was the same. Adding more tnt (to the back) made the arc even flatter and the range lower. Taking out blocks in the back resulted in a slightly higher arc but dimished range. Maybe this is because the tnt jumps *away* from my propulsion tnt, but my propulsion tnt should jump forwards too. As of now, i can only get 200 ish blocks with 28 tnt, but increasing the arc should make that more.
