Hello! I came to the support section because one or two replies and one thread have disappeared. The missing thread was in PS4: Discussion. I read the rules, and I didn't violate them, so perhaps they were taken by the filter? I'm not 100% sure if this is still the right link to the missing thread, but I looked through my history and I think it was this:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-playstation-4-edition/mcps4-discussion/2206755-regarding-ps4-disappointment-hypothetical-solution

If you would please find and fix my thread, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

posted a message on Regarding PS4 disappointment: hypothetical solution
I'm new to MC for consoles. As I read this forum, I'm coming across a lot of posts expressing frustration with MC on the PS4, such as the thread about the PS3 saves not transferring, and I admit that there's things to be frustrated about:

    • For PS3 users coming to PS4, there's definitely some stuff that must be disappointing: the saves, the duping bugs (lame!), and so on.
    • For PC users coming to PS4, I'm slowly realizing how different the PC and console editions are. I'm not talking about mods (I play vanilla anyway), I'm just surprised how far behind the console editions are - I was hoping we'd see the great additions from PC version 1.8 soon on PS4, but it looks like that won't be here for a long, long time.
However! I think it's important to note that, for the PS3 upgraders, you're getting a game that will be updated with features for years to come and you only paid $5, and $20 for the original version. I paid $20 for PC and $20 for PS4. In terms of... hours of fun per dollar, this value is phenomenal. I haven't been so impressed with the value in a $20 game since The Orange Box.

Before people jump down my throat, I'll reiterate: this doesn't mean that it's not frustrating when you realize, for example, that you can't transfer your save file. And it doesn't mean I wasn't disappointed when I realized I shouldn't hold my breath for 1.8, which I just started playing on PC.

So I feel like I can't complain at 4J when they're giving me one of my favorite games ever for 1/3 the price of other games, especially considering how many terrible $60 games are out there. But what if they charged, say, $50 for newcomers and $20 for PS3 upgraders, and used that money to hire a bunch of short-term developers to work intensively to iron out bugs, get the save features working, and work towards bringing the consoles closer to PCs in terms of features? Maybe they could even start optimizing the game to take advantage of the new hardware, and allow more mobs, or even better draw distance?

This is all hypothetical, it obviously didn't happen like that, but I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts. Good idea, bad idea?

Same. The fanciest thing I ever did was upgrade all the gravel paths to subtly patterned wooden paths, swapped out cobblestone for stone bricks, and some other nice things with landscaping. But in general, I try to keep it the way I found it.

Sometimes I added houses and extend their paths, but I try to recreate one of the houses from the town so the dummy villagers don't get confused.

Does anyone else wait until night, when the villagers are inside, and just block up the doors with mud or sand or whatever? Or change the doors to metal, which they can't open? I play on hard/survival, and every time that I don't trap them like that, it's always a ghost town when I return - either literally every villager is gone, or maybe there would be one guy left. I don't know if that was a PC bug, or if there's something I should do to the towns to improve their security. It's annoying, because I'd rather appreciate the villagers walking around, especially now that they do gardening and other real tasks with 1.8 update.

On console edition, do the villagers do an adequate job of staying alive without help from the player, especially before the iron golems spawn?

    Just to play devil's advocate:

I *think* the animal problem is mostly a CPU bottleneck. The PS4/XB1 have much, much better GPUs, more/faster memory, and the CPUs provide bigger memory bandwidth, but the CPUs are still super, super weak.

My knowledge of hardware is limited, though.

QUICK ASAP I HAVE A RESPONSE

If you're looking for flat land, then Geneo answered your question perfectly.

If you're looking for something else then you need to be more specific.

Maybe after completely filling in 9 maps, let us craft them into a book that works like a book for page turning, but otherwise works like a map? That could be cool, although it still wouldn't cover the whole world.

This is exactly the kind of thing ps4 needs to work on. It has this awesome, unique share feature that lets you take a screenshot just by pressing a button... and yet it was easier for you to take a picture on your phone. In a future update, they should add ways to share via email, picasa, flickr, etc

Sorry for being OT! Looks cool, any villages or strongholds yet? What are the locations marking, diamonds?

Yeah, definitely. Coming from PC, I was always surprised how many villages, unique mobs, strongholds, etc I saw when playing with friends' xbox 360 or PS3. I think they changed it because it would have been way too rare to find villages, biomes, strongholds, on the tiny map.

FWIW, I think you may find that you'll like this way better. Villages are less common, but it's more rewarding when you find them.

I've been playing hard survival "online" (solo so far, but I have the options set to allow friends to join). Here's what I've noticed so far, it's mostly audio stuff:

    1. The sound levels need significant tuning. I can barely hear it when I break most blocks, but some of the menu sounds are crazy loud.
    2. I don't know if this is an amplified example of #1 or a separate issue, but some sound effects don't make ANY sound. I've only dealt with a handful of creepers, but when they explode, the only sound is the sound of the blocks breaking, no explosion sound at all.
    3. The music is loud and... weird. You can turn the volume down, but I needed to bring it all the way down to about 25% to hear the music and hear the sound effects somewhat properly, but then other sound effects would be deafening.
    4. This is sorta hard to explain... When chopping down a tree, I cut down two blocks above the first block of the tree trunk, then jump into the space to (hopefully) be able to reach chopping down the rest of the tree above me. I think literally every time I did this, the first block I'd cut down after jumping onto the tree trunk didn't show the breaking animation. The rest of the trunk broke like it normally does.
    5. I haven't explored underneath my farm area, so maybe there are tons of mobs underground messing things up, but I have two ~8x8 pens, one for cows and one for sheep. With only about four animals in each pen, they're behaving as though I had 30: they're popping in and out, seem to get stuck above the fence, etc.
So, sorta annoying, but I bet they'll have these things patched up before October. It's definitely playable, and frankly I'd rather have it sooner and let them iron out the little things after release, but that's just my (impatient) opinion :P

Quick question: this is my first console MC, I've always played PC. Version 1.8 just came out and it brought a lot of significant changes, so I'm eager to see them on the PS4. To you console veterans, how long does it typically take the PC updates to make their way to consoles?
