    Evil notch?

Would Evil Notch be Notch's avatar -without- a goatee?

    Because that just ain't right.

Alright, well, would crafting a shop chest be different than crafting a normal chest?
Also, this does raise the usual free-market difficulties of differently priced goods over different regions, leading to little battles, revolts, lootings, and all other manner of very interesting things.

Farmer John better not make pork too expensive :3

I'm gonna go ahead and say I like the idea of a "giant king" (not like a really big king, like a king of giants) who lives on a really high-up floating island. Jack-and-the-Beanstalk sort of thing.

My main criticism with the giant you have up there is that if it does't follow you, is so huge and yet only has 50 hearts, arrow spam will be pretty much the easiest way to kill it.

Therefore, the Giant King oughtta have his own squat castle that you must actually -breach- (guarded by some form of other mob, probably) to fight him at mid- and close-range.

    Size: :x :x :x :x
Health: let's say 75-100 hearts. This'll be a close-range fight so let's Make it impossible for an individual, but not undoable for maybe a skilled group of three or four.
Special Stats: has his own castle, wears a crown, big battle axe with probable splash damage, and maybe chases after players so that while one's under threat, another can hack away at the backs of his legs or whatever.

Overall I really do support the ideas behind this post, and Notch himself has said he wants a purpose-driven portion of the game involving an "End". I think your idea neatly balances his plan for minecraft (rawooar dragons and castle/cave building!) with players' expectations of minecraft (endless funtimes and castle/cave building!)

    Thumbs up!

Well, I guess I favor a cowbell over some persuasion of "pignip" in that you can use it without it running out. (Although maybe pignip wouldn't run out either?)

I guess a solid positive for pignip is that it sort of leads to natural farms existing on their own in the wild, which would be neat.

And can you tell I like saying pignip?

there's not much to stop the medic hiding in the tower healing the archers.

Well, in the case of archers, I would think that if they didn't have a medic nearby, they'd either have another Archer to relieve them if the get injured, or alternately, a chest full of pork, so I daresay it might not unbalance anything in terms of archery?

But, you do raise the point of Medic self-preservation, which might be difficult if all they've got is pork (which they can't attack with~). I would say Armor may help with that sort of thing, but this may be the topic for a new thread lest we veer off topic :tongue.gif:

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions so far, guys :3

yeah and then there will be one guy with diamond armor diamand tools and 3 teamates with entire invtorys stacked with food

Is that a criticism O_o? Because you could always take the TF2 approach and kill the medics. If this were a PvP fight, I mean.
That's why I think from a strategy standpoint it won't unbalance anything particularly.

I lol'd when imagining someone trying to make a bell, and making a snazzy pair of pants instead.
Anyway the Bell... has an extra dimension of urgency I think. Also yeah, Chat will probably be radial, or will -everyone- see what -everyone- is saying on a server where there are potentially several towns? So I think a Bell is better for alarming a specific town / area into a common call for action.

Also I agree on a real use for Gold, which this seems to be.

Grain can make bread which can heal you sort of.

Haha, that "sort of" is kind of what I was getting at. It heals 2.5 hearts, which is only a little more than half of a single slice of cooked ham. It seems a little bit of an underwhelming feedback when you spend all that time in the fields and stuff.
But even so, wouldn't it be neat to sort of have a secondary use for it, in healing livestock / making them produce things?
As another example, feeding Chickens grain begets eggs.
Basically the whole ability to "force food into other mobs" idea is what I think would be neat to implement, as it gives rise to all these other sorts of nuanced activities :3

If Multiplayer crafting ends up happening as some people think it may, I think this would actually be a really awesome "town project". Any idea what it would be made of / how to place it?

XD well, I suppose that might be an issue. I wonder if you could heal mobs?
That sounds like a "why in the world would I want to do that" situation, but in the future there may be cows or other useful livestock, which maybe only give milk when fed grain?
It'd finally make grain useful, anyway. So maybe being able to feed Mobs isn't such a bad idea after all.

Yeah, this one sort of works without currency... but it does seem to be the same basic idea.
I don't like the idea of currency, though, so it works for me!

Um, I vote an alteration of your "Cobblestones with Mortar" idea. I think it should be five cobblestone, four gravel, but you should get two or three Masonry instead of six. Otherwise you're getting more Masonry than you put in Cobblestone, ya know?

Right, um, and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade or anything, but just a... very unhelpful thought.
What happens if Griefers fill your base with this stuff?

Ah, okay, now that I understand it more I think this is a really great idea! But yeah, antigriefing measures are important. If it's indestructible what happens if you misplace it?
Buuut I'm digressing, those are problems Notch can probably figure out. But yeah, thumbs up for the concept!

posted a message on Whales - More than just a new mob.
    Alright!

After reading through all five pages of forum posting, I gotta say.

Whale bases, to me, sound like treehouses.
I think they would fit with the game's theme, be a cool water mob, and any weirdness resulting from thecraww's percentages and environment dimensions can easily be sorted out by Notch.
Would I go through the trouble of finding a whale, swimming inside of it, and making some sort of tinyfort/building a chest full of dirt to leave for the next person? Maybe! It all depends on the mood I'm in when I see that whale. If I'm in the middle of mining Iron I'll probably just be like "Oh, whale. Neat."

The truth of the matter is that this is an innovative idea (submaps inside a moving megabeast) which I think is exactly Notch's style, and I would not be surprised if it were implemented in some fashion down the road, once we have working multiplayer and other things.
    Thumbs up, thecraww!
(but try to stop feeding the trolls, it really makes a lot of boring reading.)
