If what you <truly> want to learn is about the projection of a 3-D scene onto a 2-Dimensional plane (rasterization) then you should NOT be learning it by writing a game; an independent project would be best, since you really are reinventing the wheel to learn more about the wheel, not because you want to use the wheel.

True, that´s where I wanted this thread to go.

    To the OP.

If you really can program already, and have a good grasp of OOP, then I'm amazed at the fact that you don't at least know what is required to make a 3D game, even if you can't do it yet.

If you want to use a 3rd party engine, there are plenty out there, as have already been mentioned, like Ogre3D.

If you want to write your own 3D engine from scratch, you are going to have to start at the beginning by learning about vector mathematics and geometry.
Once you have a grasp on that, you will be able to construct simple geometry in 3D space, and if you do have programming experience, from there it should be easy to build on that.

Again, you can get away with not knowing the ins and outs of vector mathematics if you use a 3D engine, as most of the matrix stuff is done for you, as well as back-face culling, collision detection, etc.

If you are indeed a programmer already, then I would suggest building your own.
But be prepared to put the time and effort in, especially if vectors and matrix maths are new to you.

    Good luck.

    Krush.

I have some knowledge about what it´s required to make a 3d Game. But I was lost at the representation of graphics in the monitor. All my programs are console or visual, but nothing in 3d. I used Visual Basic, Delphi, etc, and I know how to use objects in my proggrams, but making a 3d engine was something totally different. I dind´t understand how to tell the GPU to draw something, you understand me? That´s where the 3d engine comes in, and that´s what I wanted to research. Luckly, vectors and matrix aren´t new to me, tho´ I need to refresh my mind and read a lot of new algorithms. Thanks a LOT for your words, I apreciate them.

Right now I´m waiting for a friend of my father to come back from USA, I asked him to buy me a Kindle 3, so I could read many books easier and faster. I hope I can get something running by december, meanwhile I´m writting stuffs for the engine that are not visual-related. Thanks all for your comments!

    : )

I will try all of this.

I would love to build my own engine from scratch, so now I know where to start reading, thanks to all of you.

But to make Minecraft did Notch use any of these stuffs?

I would like to be aviable to do something like he did...

I belive he created the Minecraft engine by himself, that´s what I would like to do.

I fear to belive that my only option will be wait for him to release the game´s code as he mentioned :SSSS: .

I know there are some books to learn 3d programming, but my currency isn´t in dollars, so it´s very expensive for me to get one :SSSS:

    Thanks for your replys!

I know how to program in C, and I guess C++ won´t be very hard for me.

My problem is how to create a 3d world and a character that moves in it.

I want to creat a simple square room to start. But I can´t figure out what I need or how to do it...

Hi everyone, I´m a Junior Programmer. I make software for small companys and bussness for living, but what I really want to do, at least as a hobby, is a 3d game.

So I started to think in "How can I make something like Minecraft?".
I don´t really care about "Block-World" nor "Infinite-generated-World", I´m most concerned about the 3d programming.

How can I make a First Person Game?

Searching in google I found Ogre3d and it sounded great, but somehow I can´t make it run even the very first tutorial!

So I would like to know, if there are any guide about how to make something like Minecraft.

I know OOP, and I imagine how to do the core programming, but I can´t figure out how to make a 3d engine for it.

I trust paypal, the problem is I don't have credit card nor mum to pay for the game. Can we stick to the topic? Im not asking HOW to buy the game, I just would love to pay for it using other methods, like Alertpay.com

Hi everyone, I think it may boost Minecraft sales if more mothods are supported, I personally don't have paypal so I can't buy the game, but I have plenty of cash in my www.Alertpay.com account.

Can at least Alertpay be supported as well as Paypal?

Other famous site is Libertyreserve.com (I don't have an account here)

I would buy the game right now if Alertpay were supported!! :SSSS:

    Thanks,
    Kn0x.-
