posted a message on MrMMods (BetterLight|Grass, SimpleMap) 1.8.1
    Quote from irowboat »
I see a lot of confusion, so I'm going to give the steps that worked [*DISCLAIMER*] for me [/*DISCLAIMER*], on an up-to-date Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.4, which includes Java 1.6 (nearly all the binary versions are symlinked to 1.6).

I've got MrMMods 1.01 installed (with only the Ambient Occlusion enabled) and xau's HD texture fix 1.1.7 running concurrently, with Frenden's v4.2 texture pack loaded with Minecrafter 1.1.2 (64-bit).

Step 1: download and unzip MrMMods 1.01 and mcpatcher-1.1.7.jar. You'll end up with one folder called 'MrMModsv1_01' and the naked jar file for mcpatcher.

Step 2: open a new finder window (instructions assume tree view), and navigate to /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/ - do not open any of the subfolders (just to prevent accidental misplacement)

Step 3: drag the contents of the 'MrMModsv1_01' folder - that is to say, the 'mods' directory and the 'MrMPatcher.jar' file (you can skip the README.txt) and drop it in the folder mentioned in step two. [WARNING] Do NOT drop it anywhere else. Doing so will cause finger-pointing and thinly-veiled laughter[/WARNING]

Step 4: drag the mcpatcher-1.1.7.jar file into the folder mentioned in step two. The warning from step three still applies.

Step 5: Now that you safely have the patchers in /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/ (you do, right?), go ahead and open the 'bin' folder, so you can see the minecraft.jar file. Do yourself a favor, and select it, press command-d to duplicate it, and rename the 'minecraft copy.jar' to something else, like 'minecraft original backup.jar' At this point, you should have two .jar files in /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/bin

Step 6: Now we're ready to patch, so open MrMPatcher.jar, and you'll notice (if your bin folder is open in tree view) that it immediately creates a backup of its own, called 'minecraft.mrmbackup.jar', which is what it will have filled in at the far right of the first box.

Step 7:Click 'Browse', and the file browser will open. The filename will start off as 'minecraft', but change this to 'minecraft.jar'. To make sure you're saving in the right place, click the down arrow next to 'minecraft.jar' which will open a more complete save dialog. Clicking the arrows next to 'bin' will now reveal the folder hierarchy, and if it looks like the one from step 2, you're good.) If all is well, click 'Save', and then 'Replace' when prompted.

Step 8: Check 'Ambient Occlusion' and then click 'Patch'. Things should happen. And a transcript of the patch should end with "#### Success! ...probably ####" Quit MrMPatcher.

Step 9: Open mcpatcher-1.1.7.jar, and you'll see another backup be made in your bin folder called 'minecraft.original.jar'. Both the 'Original' and 'Output' fields will be filled out this time. You can choose a texture pack here, but I'm going to suggest using Minecrafter (more later). Select the texture size you plan on using (I've left all the other checkboxes as their defaults), and then hit 'Patch'. Once again, you should see "#### Success! ...probably ####", and you can quit mcpatcher.

Step 10: You can now delete 'minecraft.mrmbackup.jar' and 'minecraft.original.jar', leaving behind the twice-patched 'minecraft.jar' and your 'minecraft original backup.jar'

If you opted not to install a texture in step nine, you can use Minecrafter to load up your texture mods, but remember to go to Options and turn off 'Enable HD fix' (at least in version 1.1.2).

Was fine up to step 6 (aside from a little confusion in backups for step 5), and then while trying to run MrMPatcher, got an error message saying "The Java JAR file “MrMPatcher.jar” could not be launched. Check the console for possible error messages". Please assist me.

Can anyone please explain exactly how to do this on a mac? I've been successful with previous texture packs but I never had animated water and lava. I have the HD texture fix or whatever its called, but I don't know how to use it for mac. Does anyone know how I could use this?

    Here's an example:

Just in case you didn't understand that, which you should, just make a folder wherever. Then put minecraft.app in it.
Put the texture terrain.png in it and you're done!

    just got this message

Thanks a bunch xau. Although I saved my minecraft by deleting version from the folder, Terminal gives me stuff like "unable to access file". If you haven't noticed, I'm kind of a noob with computers, so I don't really know when to press enter and whatnot in terminal. If you get the chance, could you briefly walk me through that?
