I've got a strange problem with skeletons.
I have a mine with a deep shaft and "entrance hall" both are very well lit and I can't find any dark spots.
Still I have skeletons constantly(about one skeleton per hour) spawning inside the "entrance hall", but not in the shaft.
I'm playing on hard and already died once because of this.
Did anyone encounter something like this or know how to solve the problem?
TranzAndri, Thanks for clearing up with Time Machine, I wasn't sure how it could affect the game, turns out it doesn't :-)
Regarding the memory adjustment.
Right click on "Minecraft.app" and select "Show Package Contents".
Enter the "Contents" directory
Here you should have a file called "Info.plist" Double click to open it.
It will open in "Property List Editor" application.
Look at the bottom, there is a section called "Java".
Inside find a "Key" called "VMOptions".
Change it from: "-Xms512M -Xmx1024M" to: "-Xms1536M -Xmx1536M" (no quotes)
Save the file.
These settings determine the minimum and the maximum amount of used memory.
The default is 512MB min, 1GB max.
I've changed it to allocate 1.5GB min and 1.5GB max (1536M).
All the memory is allocated on startup, and the overall memory pool is larger.
Don't forget to backup the original minecarft.app before you do the changes.
Good luck.
Some time ago ( I believe shortly after Halloween update) I started to have a problem with Minecraft.app
I can't launch it by double-clicking the app it self. I have to: "Show Package Contents", navigate to launcher java file
and launch it. This is really annoying.
Does anyone has an idea what might be the problem?

I'm not sure which of two things I did helped:
1. I turn off "Time machine" while playing.
2. I changed memory parameters in Minecraft.app/Contents/Info.plist
From: -Xms512M -Xmx1024M
To: -Xms1536M -Xmx1536M
The game runs very smooth @ 1680x1024 64px textures (and lots of plug ins).
No crashes for many hours and multiple sessions.
Hope it will help.
