I do not really see any issues with migrating to 'Minecrosoft', Microsoft inherited all of your data from Mojang when they purchased the company either way.
Papa helped me to migrate my Mojang Account to a Microsoft Account, Papa and Big Bro migrated theirs too, no issues so far, none of us play Bedrock on PC though, we do not use Windows at all!

I think it is legitimate!
We do not use Windows at home, so I have only ever really had access to the Java Edition. 
Mods are a lot of fun though, and I have Bedrock on my mobile phone anyway!
