So i'm in love with this map, and when I started playing it there was a massive natural waterfall that cascaded down one of the mountainsides by the valley I live in. Ive been playing the world for a while and I decided just now to say to myself, "Hey.. you should take out the water and put lava there instead." This is the outcome.
In that case... Minecart tracks take up a lot of iron. Or you could make a chest full of buckets and then load the buckets up with Lava so when you can construct self-sealing walls. :biggrin.gif:
An excessive amount of lava and self-sealing walls. Bravo, a stupendous suggestion. I congratulate you.
But!
Obsidian isnt hard to get. Specially with a nether portal in my base I can get the lava I need to farm a bunch more. The 465 iron I have is what im really curious to see what the community suggests I should do with.
Obsidian house is certainly a good idea. As of right now all my base is underground/in a mountain. Dont really feel like moving all my storage to another fortress of solitude. Perhaps an obsidian tower of chaos?
Just make sure that all the TNT is close enough to chain together and factor in the radius reduction of the explosion from the stone that surounds it and what not. I recomend building a small base away from your current one as a model and rigging that up with TNT to give you a good idea of what you will need to do.
Ive had torches stick through the paintings ive placed too, but when taking the torches down ive accidently knocked down the specific painting i wanted there, thats why I suggested it.
As long as theres no holes in the wall, making sure its a sheer flat surface that is big enough for the painting you want, it will eventually work.
I use both methods and have to say that I HATE strip mines with 3 blocks inbetween each branch/shaft. I ALWAYS do 2 blocks thick between each branch. Why? Because I have found so many diamonds and ores in places that would have been skipped over if you did a 3 block thick walled branch mine. Flame, rage, and troll all you want. All I know is im happily sitting on a large stack of diamonds and 90% of them came from my shaft/branch mining.
As for spelunking? I do it when ever I run into a cave and It's gotten me hundreds of iron. I like it because you're actually exploring, not just digging your way through solid blocks. Sure, its dangerous and easy to get lost.. but thats the point of minecraft, isnt it? :biggrin.gif:
Wow, lots of trolls out tonight. Just have a large, well lit grassy area outside and all during the night farm animals will spawn. Farm animals, like sheep, will only spawn in well lit areas above ground. During the day, they can spawn EVERYWHERE above ground (practically). At night, they will spawn frequently in well torch-lit places.
Dont listen to Nick. Hes just trolling. I use a lot of paintings in my house fo decoraion and hiding secret passages. Just keep trying and make sure you have enough room on the wall you want the painting to be. The wall has to be completely intact before you place the painting on it. It might help to take down any torches in the area you want the painting to cover too. As long as you have an even, flat surface, eventually youll get the painting you want in the size you want. Its random which on you get (depending on the size of the surface your placing it on) so just keep trying. Dont have any holes behind the surface area you want to cover till after the painting is placed. Then, dig AROUND the painting NOT THROUGH IT and patch it up. Ta-dah!
When I want to make a floating island I just use the jump/place block method till im at the desired height and expand outwards from there, being sure to mark where my block pillar i used to get up is at. If you dont want it to be that far off the ground a stair case is a really nice way of getting up and down whilst making it. Personally, I dont build on floating islands due to the difficulty in getting up and down. Water elevators work nice, some of the time. If your not careful you can easily fall out of the waterfall. Im actually in the process of making a floating island above the lake i have built next to (that leads to a river that leads to a huge ocean) with waterfalls cascading down it and flowing into the lake. If you care about what it looks like then i highly recomend you look at other larger floating islands for inspiration before starting your own.
