    What about a fast-travel rune?

Not like speed or anything, but a rune that teleports you to x amount of blocks in y direction.

    Probably something like...
    :Black: [] :Black: [] :Black:
    [] :Black: :Violet: :Black: []
    :Black: :Violet: :Black: :Violet: :Black:
    [] :Black: :Violet: :Black: []
    :Black: [] :Black: [] :Black:

Where black is ink, and violet is the signature.

One could activate the rune by clicking on the central block.

The signature, could be comprised of 3 or 2 'tier-0' blocks, and a 1 or 2 tier blocks.

If there is just one tier block, the rune sends the player off by tierx128 blocks (Distance probably should be changed) towards the direction in which the tier block is placed. Like a compass.

If there are two, the player is sent off in one of the directions first, then in the other direction.

For example, if there was a rune which had a signature of:

    :Black: :cobblestone: :Black:
    :DBlock: :Black: []
    :Black: [] :Black:

Then the player would be sent off 128 blocks north and 768 blocks west.

Seeing as you're back, I think you would probably agree with me that my idea is...

    Overcomplex.

Other people, tl;dr if you must.

:--+: :Black: :Black: :Green: :Black: :Black: :--+:

    Well, a standarized tower.

Firstly, the torches represent redstone torches, as to avoid confusion.

The Ink (Black) determines the height of the tower, by 6 x tier, with walls being on the outer ring of black ink (including the 1,1 block, 5,1, etc, for x,y with origin at the upper left and the first block being 0,0).
The Level Determiner (Green) sets the height for each floor, by 2 x tier.
The Red ink is what the tower will be constructed from (Probably including the floors of each level).

    The Indigo is more complex.
In the indigo block section, there should be two different tiers. The higher tier, middle tier (if it is possible) and lower tier. The higher tier will point to a ladder at the inside wall of the tower. The middle tier would probably point to an opening in the wall, (a gate, composed of a 3x2 opening, with air at the keystone, as to resemble an arch) but if this is not possible, one could carve out the opening by themselves. The lower tier of block, which I think may be suitable for just being Tier 0/Air, would point to a normal wall. For example, if the indigo blocks are (from north, clockwise) tier 1, tier 3, tier 2, tier 3, then because they would be basically Low, High, Medium, and High, there would be a gate/opening on the north side, ladders on the east and west sides, and a normal wall on the south side.

The orange block in the middle may just be a preventer for griefing, as a sort of checksum for the other blocks.
The more secure way would to make the rune only work if the check-block's (as I will refer to it) tier is the average of the tiers of the indigo-area blocks, divided by two, then rounded up.
The other way, although easier but less safe, is to just have the rune work by a way similar to that of another secret and unmentionable rune (although doing so may be already futile), probably upon chance.

The rune would not work with torches/redstone torches, liquids, tnt (That wouldn't be good, would it?), adminium, paintings, mushrooms and flowers, sand, gravel, reeds, redstone wire, or any other either greatly destructive or non-solid block.

This rune dispels many common needs to build towers, but a common argument may be that it takes away from the fun of building a tower. But then again, there are certain runes that do alike things. Such standardized creations are easily spotted and will be easily differentiated from original buildings.

If a ranking system is developed for Runecraft, setting ranks for runes would be easy, right?

    So...

An idea! (Even though you're away, I'm making this for when you come back.

    A rune that err...

    ...

    Yes, makes a tower.

It's going to be complex, and have a lot of different variables.

ONLY IF YOU REALLY REALLY WANT THIS in the server wrapper, make it. It might be a pain to program...
