ah actualy i've been meaning to try my hand at making a texture pack my self. just not sure where to start. have to figure out where im gonna go with it. any ideal software items i should have.

i see volcanos being more of a event type thing then a biome in their own right. however something like a dormant volcanic island could be a posible biome type. as far as volcanic areas id say it would end up as a prefix biome modifyer.
thes immages are all from a couple of books. if i recall scary storys and realy scary storys. cant recall exact names off the top of my head been years sence i saw them. realy none of these would make it. cause notch prefers to come up with origeonal things. using any of them would probaly require some copywrite fanagling.
lets not say that and let Ovo finish at their own pace and get something compleat that fits to gether seamlessly. also as a idea for your smoke texture ovo maby something that starts off thick and whispy and disipates would fit in better. something that starts thick and disipates to nothing.
i dont take credit for the immage its best smoke immage i could find. also i dont have the tools and or know how to post the immage directly to here.
also note that not a single one of the items you added fit in with the style of the rest of the items. its like having a bunch of ducks walking around, then throwing in some goats and still calling it a bunch of ducks.
the first major change is making some of the biomes a prefix type that would controll things like biome climates. first you would have the biomes that are more climate involved. forinstance snowy dry rainy dying flooded and some others that escape me at the moment.
second you would have your landscape type biomes. such as mountains, plains, swamps, grasslands, hills, forests, deserts. wich would determine things like trees per chunk and landscape layout.
the 2 would then be used to create your biome. naturaly some like desert and rainy or flooded and mountains would be cause swap of the prefix. as you cant realy do a flooded mountain or a rainy desert. once you have a viable combination it would then deside your foliage and grass coloration on a chart like is curently used. in the case of say a snowy forest the grass coloration would be a lighter frosty look. wile a dying grasslands would have rather dead looking grass with fewer trees, tall grass and flowers.
this would also previde a chance to make biomes blend better at their edges. where you can have so to speak transition chunks between biomes, that would smooth the transition the current tansition is especialy jaring at the edges of swamp biomes. where they mesh about as well as a car and a street lamp that are trying to spoon.
the second part of this is the seasons
on every new moon the season changes wich alters the weather patterns based on the seasons. the season would also change the effectiveness of some things like useing bone meal to get flowers.
the seasons change would also alow for the creation of calanders. calanders would be crafted in much the same way as a map only replacing the compass with a clock. wich would be a place able wall item that is 1wider 2tall. the upper part would display something representing the season. snowflake for winter sun for summer flowers for spring and falling leaves for fall. wile the lower part would display the day of the season it is eather as a number or a showing of the current moon phase. the time between new moons may have to be raised to make the seasons each last a reasonable amount of time.
in winter the weather would in most biomes change to snow insted of rain. it would also cause things like storms and snow to happen more oftain about 2-3 times per winter. winter would also lower the chance of flowers when useing bonemeal.
in spring you would get rain insted of snow but have them happen about as oftain. with a higher chance of thunderstorms. spring would also raise the number of flowers you get from bonemeal use a fair bit. the leaves on trees would also naturaly regenerate to normal size
in summer even snowy biomes stop geting snow and get rain insted ice blocks will also melt on their own during this time. the chances of rain gose down to maby once during the summer.
in fall the leaves on trees would pair down by one layer on birch and regular trees pines would be uneffected. all crop items would also grow to full size faster in fall as its the harvest season.(yes i relize that isnt exactly true with water melons wich tend to be harvested in summer)
Snow biomes and mountain biomes are different things. You will never, ever see a mountain biome covered in snow unless you put it there or Mojang upgrades the terrain generator with more variety.
i realy dont see why there wouldnt be a snowy mountain biome. kinda makes sence to have them for if for no other reason than they are also naturaly ocurring on earth. realy it just makes sence maby notch has something against snow and mountains being together.
Edit: maby a adjustment to the biome code that has something like. base biome (i.e. forest pineforest mountain desert) + biome modifier (i.e. snowy dry dying). so you could get things like a snowy mountain or a dying forest. the combo of the 2 would set things like foliage and grass colors.
forinstance in a snowy pine forest the grass would be the usual dark green, with bits of white or light blue to represent frost.
yes i do relize that would be a very big code change to impliment.

Terrain and biomes are different. While it IS true that certain biomes affect the terrain, forest like mountains are possible as are snowy biomes. However, what you are asking for is pretty hard to find. Snow and snow biomes have been put in and taken out of the game quite a bit I don't know if they are in 1.0. A highly impractical way to do what you are asking for is to create an army of snow golems and put them in an area that meets your requirements except for the snow part and have them do their job there.
i've been lookin for a seed like this to and befor you mention painting the world with snow golems there is 2 problems the first is you
A: need snow to make one
B: some poeple want to have the snow weather and not have a ton of golems runing about also the golems wont cause a area to get the winter biome weather and having rain in a feild of snow kinda ruins the effect

If i had to discribe my self it would be ... Lawful Evil but there are those that would argue that.
As for if i prefer strawberrys or raspberrys well strawberrys . Cause raspberrys are just over rated. Besides you cant make a good strawberry and marshmellow fluff sandwich out of them.

So whats your next project after this is done. I'd realy like to see you do a pack that is for the feel of a spooky house. In the subtle way of being alone in a black out, and thinking you just heared someone break in. Rather then the usual slaughter house special you see from most packs.
Oh and there are alternate bricks with red and white mortar. I use the ones with the white mortar :tongue.gif:
thanks for the assist by the way. i'll have to see if i can figure out how to change the bricks. but for now ill just enjoy the pack as it is. i probaly wont get around to figuring the bricks till i deside to build something with them.
Edit: i wonder if Ovo has a plan for a nother pack after they finish this one. well as much as something like this can be finished in a constantly evolving environment. i'd realy like to see ovo's idea on a subtle horror pack. one that has the feel of being alone in a haunted house rather then the over blown slaughter house style that most people do.

i am presuming that this refers to a ravine or vally that is in the shape of a moon. posibly a patch of exposed stone.
