Yeah, I was being a bit pretentious when describing how things seem. I don't really get what you mean by Dinh being inactive and such, he's most definitely still around in other places (believe me when I say I've seen him).

Now, why the heck did they bring back the chat thread? Citricsquid closed it down last I saw, to which people migrated to an off-site version of the chat thread. Now it's been back for two years now, and I only just noticed.

Welp, I'm only back to merge MCF and Twitch accounts.

Nice to see there's still a presence of old roleplayers here, if not a little disheartening, especially since no one else really seems to use this place. I mean, we're pretty much fossils to whatever people are here today.

It's pretty sad to see there's not much activity it seems. Probably has to do with the initial success of Minecraft, people coming on forums and finding this place, roleplaying for a good while through terrible though yet workable English (in fact if you dig deep enough you'll find basically whole stories and world-building with global warfare and politics). Then, well... people mature and grow up. English has improved for sure but kids are now teenagers and adults, now they have obligations and duties so they don't have time or feel like roleplaying. The few that remain find there's fewer roleplays and people around, which just causes more attrition and loss. If that weren't enough, any curious people coming in are long gone since Minecraft suddenly isn't the biggest trendy thing anymore. Now you have games like Fortnite who will likely have their forums with roleplaying sections, and then they too will experience the rise and fall of basically what I've written.

Of course there are many other theories as to why forum roleplaying just isn't anymore, and I don't mean to sound holier-than-thou. Minecraft could just be less popular now so fewer people come onto the forums, and most forums tend to have a life and death cycle. Social media's a bigger presence than before (like Reddit, or even Discord channels dedicated to RPs so forum RPing is seen as sluggish). Games and media change over time; there were a lot of Pokemon and high school roleplays, but fewer people play Pokemon or imagine highschool now that reality's kicking in.

In any case, despite rambling on (I could get to the heat death of the universe if I continue)... I don't think the magic's coming back, not for a while. I hope I'm wrong, but Notch/Microsoft aren't releasing Minecraft 2 anytime soon.

I'm not sure what MCF's policy is on, uh, discussing other websites, but if you're wanting to find where Dinh and a bunch of other guys have gone or just want to find a good RP more easily then feel free to send a PM.

I think I know what you mean. I wish there was something we could do about it.

If you're GM and you know that person won't be returning (in a reasonable amount of time), you can probably revert a portion of the RP back to pre-arc. If the RP's too heavily invested in the arc, just try to take over for the other character (ie make him/her a NPC) while also leading the arc in your own way.

Better than leaving an entire RP die, ja?

Since this entire mess started with me needing help, I think I'll stay away from it for now. XD. But if I ever do and I'm prepared to be reasonable, I'll be sure to call on you. :)

EDIT: Disregard that. I think I need help with my writing.

I can tell you're Solawind, since it says so right above your avatar.

For anyone who still hates me, we have two options. 1. Join the Sci-Fi RP and forget about this, or 2. Take this to a PM.

I'd like my hype on a silver platter with a side of fries, please.

Now, I don't hate you, let me get that straight. The way you acted was wrong, but I'm certainly glad now that you've decided to change your ways.

    You
    don't have to join ^_^, that's the thing about Rp's. If you're
interested in space RPs though I must say, this one has some real talent
    behind the systems.

You have been lurking for a while now. Is everything okay?

Well, if you recall, me and Lugia left a while ago to another RP site, 'cause this section was rapidly degrading at the time and said incident.

Still bit of a shanty-town, honestly. I probably won't join and just intend to discuss certain things around here.

Am I the only one who thinks we've let this drag on a bit too long?

I'm more worried about the way you think, mate.

Considering you constantly try to make yourself look like the better man woman without any regards to other people, I'm gonna give you a clear idea of what's to come next:
-You'll keep attempting to deflect and not taking responsibility.
-You won't listen to us and our advice.
-I'm really starting to picture someone spoiled with lots of insecurities.

Sorry, but that's just the way you're doing things at the moment. Really, no matter how you phrase it, your post is gonna go 'your fault, not mine, end of story' and we're not exactly gonna welcome you with open arms.

No matter how many sprinkles you put on a brick, it'll still a useless brick.

Stop it. At this point, you're either just ignorant or flaming, one of which somebody's probably reported you by now 'cause this thread keeps getting derailed.

You want to continue, do it in a PM with me or something. Not in a place of public gatherings.

    fuel on the fire..

The Sci-fi RP [Title WIP] is currently shaping up to be one of the most amazing things I have ever been part of. Once it is up and running everyone will be allowed to join, and I hope many of you do, this thing is huge! (Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!)

There's obviously a lot going into this, and a lot more still to go, so I hope people can be patient. Hopefully by the time it is done it has something for everyone. Hopefully i'll be back with more info soon, just gotta speak to my talented associates, just letting people know that this is a thing.

Careful now. Too often I see people putting in days or even weeks into RPs that flop within days. A stark contrast from the more casual RPs that seem to last forever despite the obvious differences in work.

Though, I really do like space. I just hope you do it right, 'cause space isn't easy to describe.

That, and joining a RP here... I'm not too sure. Firstly, me and Lugia are still rather peeved over a certain incident between you and ourselves about a year ago (which I won't bring up for the sake of everyone here). Secondly, I haven't RPed here in MCF for ages now, so I probably won't be used to all the... well, I'm still not used to this new posting system. Too much white and buttons around.

I hold nothing against you, only the way you act. Either female or male, you're still picking at old wounds.

If you think this place is bad, you go to Youtube itself/4chan and declare your intentions. Otherwise please don't act like you did a few days ago, let alone hold grudges. Stop it.

If you ask me, that guy's got a pretty bad mentality against life at the moment. Firstly he's hypocritical, secondly he believes he doesn't need help, and thirdly he wants to dismiss everyone he sees and believes himself to be better than others.

Well, that's a typical day of 2015. Who wants to talk about other (RP) topics?

Ack. Is my one and only skill making people mad at me? Meh. At least I'll get to be alone.

I think you need to calm down; it'll only be years until you look back and regret these posts, simply because you made them.

Rainbow, no one wants to argue with you. You keep trying to counter everything by saying that you're bad at most things, and at the same time trying to argue that you're in fact doing your best.

We're getting mixed messages if anything. You seemed to be focused on purely the negative aspect of my previous post, and keep trying to convince everyone here that we should accept your standards. Really now, what are you exactly trying to achieve?

We're not mad at you, at least I'm not. I'm just somewhat annoyed as you don't seem to take most of our advice to heart. You're like a dog running in circles and deflecting; eventually you gotta stop and listen, and realise something is wrong when you try to make good out of bad (especially from that post of yours).

Sit down and listen. If you were to do this anywhere else you'd be immediately ousted, or even sworn at. At least we're trying to help at the best of our abilities, but we're not Gods here. If you don't want help, then stop posting here and continue with whatever you were originally doing. If you want help (and I take it that you do by continuously posting back and forth between everyone), then please do remain here without attempting to make fuss out of everyone.

...I can't be inspired by anything because A. How? B. It'll look like copying.

The sad thing-my last chapter on Into the Void was probably the best thing I've written on this forum.

Let me tell you the cold, sad truth: Everything is a copy of another thing.

It depends on how much you copy, however. We'll surely yell at people for blatantly copying RPs or even having some clear influences, but in reality that doesn't happen (mainly because this section is full of it, but even where I'm at we don't yell for copying - there's God knows how many Pokemon RPs where I'm at). If anything, it's good to start off as a copycat and work your way into becoming something distinctively different. My friend Lugia has made lots and lots of Pokemon RPs, but you can definitely see a jump in quality from the first one he made to the latest one he has now. And you don't definitely have me criticising him for making it a Pokemon RP.

RPs allow people to live out certain imaginations and fantasies in their minds. If you make a RP that's very detailed and clearly different to everyone's perceptions... I wouldn't roleplay in it. There's a reason why I don't like Skyrim and Fallout, simply because they have too much detail and don't suit a person like myself.

This does present a problem when trying to balance unique tastes with actually having people to RP with you, but in this case that's beside the point - you're new. You're expected to run a RP that's no different to others, and we respect that. (So long as it's not a blatant copy and actually leads somewhere that people like.) Sure, it has to be SOMEWHAT unique (ie post-apoc. Pokemon), but in the end it's either you get a roleplay running or you waste time making something nobody else understands.

My point is, don't be afraid of inspiration. The world's leaders, intellectuals and artists all had inspiration from somewhere, but they're not exactly called imitators or copycats. If you like it and know how to make it interesting in your head, put it out there and don't let it sit in a garbage can. Some of the best roleplays/stories/TV shows have had influences from elsewhere, so don't be afraid of using someone's ideas so long as it fits in with your own idea.

You essentially just went from 'you guys are exaggerating' to 'you guys are sheep.'

Your argument also relies on me not having had the same opinion on the matter for several years. Same to be said for KaBling.

    Boomf.

I'm just sayin' goomba that there's opportunity elsewhere, whereas here it is - not empty - but slowly becoming questionable by the day. Said opinion probably won't even matter when everyone's gone, though that's not for me to decide in all honesty. I'm not even supposed to be here, since I dedicated myself to leaving a long time ago. However, here I am, defying my own logic since this section isn't truly dead.

Either way, I'm not gonna badger anyone into leaving. I'm pretty impressed at the fact this thread's been revived for... I guess creation of new RPs?

Oh, right. Rainbow, don't aim downwards. Don't say you'll never be X simply not because it's physically impossible, but rather just keep saying to yourself that you'll always let yourself down.

Here's a cliche for you to identify - get it right, you're on the right track: I used to believe I'd be forever dumb and my writing would never improve. This was several years ago, and now I'm getting A/Excellence grades (I do NCEA in New Zealand) left and right, my writing has leaped far beyond the boundaries set by myself when I was a kid...

Just do it man. If you keep thinking you'll never be good, you won't do anything. It's good to think something's hard, but when you go as far as saying it's impossible (when compared to something like making a time machine), then you're just not trying. Forgive my criticism, but I really do believe you need to break that cycle of yours and aim higher.

Do it one word at a time and respond calmly to criticism/take it as advice for your next work of art. Eventually you'll identify your own way of working, something we can't evidently show you how to do.

That feeling when my friend Waskom's old style of RPing has come back to haunt me...

Anyway, in all honesty, if you're really desperate to find a RP that isn't full of punctuation errors and cloche stories, you could... 'migrate', as some of us have. I mean, me and Lugia got this 2-3 year old PMD RP that's still alive and kicking elsewhere with the rest of our gang.

Unfortunately there's always gonna be 'spam', hence why most of us have left for more dedicated RPing sites. I won't name them 'cause I fear some moderators will try to give me infractions or something. Either way, just avoid the 'beta-maxy' RPs unless you want to kill your grammar.

If you really want to stay, get this: there's not many good RPers around, all swamped by the constant necroing and copycat RPs. My personal decision is to leave, though considering the current circumstances around here, I guess you could try to form a group of sorts and RP together. I once did a RP with only two other friends around here, and I liked RPing with my friends over strangers. Especially as the rest of the section was undergoing a siege of Pokemon RPs at the time.

EDIT: I believe may have misread the new guy's message, but this message itself is still clear for the more 'motivated' RPers seeking some direction in this section.

I think it's because these newbies tend to think these roleplays are somehow servers. That's one category of 'em anyway.

Jesus, been a long time since I've been here. Wonder how things are going for you lads.

Personally, a good RP for me is one which is 'fun', and not so much original. Who cares if it's another anime or Pokemon RP? As long as you don't bore roleplayers with a huge wall of text and get them to be creative, then theoretically that RP should be successful and long-lasting.

I mean, look at those RPs from years back. The quality was usually horrible and short (in terms of post size), but in the end the one thing that kept you coming back to post was just how fun it was. You could've played video games or went outside, but rather you chose to stay to type and read what others had to say. Why? 'Cause they were funny and interactive. Nowadays most RPs I know of are cold and mechanical, more orientated towards advancing story than encouraging a sense of community with others. That is counter-intuitive if you ask me.

Now for me to disappear once more. I believe me and Lugia said our goodbyes long ago after a particularly bad fall with others around here.

Fairly certain I've seen this before, somewhere in the Pokemon thread.
