Currently, in Minecraft Survival Mode, only the Green and Gold disk can be obtained legitimately. The both can be received one of three ways: Firstly, by finding it in a dungeon chest, Secondly, by having a skeleton land the killing blow on a creeper, and Thirdly, very, very rarely when you kill a creeper, it will drop a record (The odds of this are insanely rare.)

The design of map you designed is impossible, firstly as a Mushroom Biome is always an island in the middle of an ocean. Your best chance is to edit a map with biomes somewhat similar to the island shape you're looking for.

Try to set a goal, or complete a challenge. I always try to play a hardcore map up to the End and beat the dragon. Really, there isn't any other way.

Alternatively you could try joining a SMP server. The people on it always seem to make it meaningful to come back. [SelfPlug] Like my server, link in my sig.[/SelfPlug] In all honesty though, you should try SMP.

You should try adding either some redstone gadgets (TNT cannon etc) or a large farm (Animal or Wheat)

posted a message on How long have you sat to see if you could break bedrock?
    Quote from XH192

Perhaps this should have gone in the Discussion section.
I never tried because when I finally got to bedrock, I had already gotten to the point where I knew all of the blocks and that bedrock could never be broken. Except maybe by a billion blocks of TNT, but I don't want to try that. I did see a video where it happened though.

That video was false as proven by several minecrafters. About the same time a roumour was going around that in 12.5 hours you could break bedrock with a diamond pick. Nonetheless, in standard MC survival it is impossible to break bedrock.

This sort of belongs in the suggestion section; but, I'm not a big fan of too many creatures. I think if one is added every few updates thats good, but we don't really need horses. Steve already walks at ~6feet per second, which is pretty fast. Let alone sprinting. Some more sea life would be cool though.

posted a message on Base design for a hardcore server
:Diamond: Find a natural lake or ocean, find a landmark that will be noticeable to someone who has been there, yet looks standard. (IE a tree on the coast) Line yourself up with this landmark, go out into water that is a few blocks deep, and dig straight down, start placing ladders on the wall once you get down two or three blocks, go down as far as possible. (I recommend that you go to where you can see y : 16 in the coords menu) Any caves you hit along the way, fill the nearby area with dirt and try to make it look natural from outside on the caves. While doing this try not to use torches as that will make it more obvious from the surface.
:Diamond: Once down here, the first thing to do is to make a main entrance room for your base. I recommend 3-4 blocks in height and maybe 24x6 blocks in length. The next thing you need is farm for food, make a small hall coming off of the main one lading to this room. A 9x9 square of hoed land with water in the middle, surrounded by wheat is typically an efficient design. Next, start setting up a storage room and mining operation, (I recommend either Branch or Phoenix mining technique, google them.) Now is when you start making smaller halls, (3 blocks in height 2 in width, and however long you like in length) coming off of the main one, branching off these halls will be your player's private quarters. Typically, a 10x10 room, 4 blocks high is enough to keep players happy. I also recommend an enchanting and alchemical room off of the main hall. Once this is achieved, try to get a grass block down to the base and make a small grassy area in which animals can spawn, if an animal does spawn, bring them to a pen and breed them for food/supplies. At this point, you should probably have the supplies to build a mob spawner, there are several of these designs on the internet and you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one.
:Diamond: At this point you should have the supplies to take on an enemy nation, but before you do that, I recommend pretending to get angry at someone in your faction (Let them know what you're doing) then "kick them out" so that they may join an enemy faction and gather information. When enough information is gathered, unleash full force upon your enemy.

They're currently working on 1.1.0 (Not 1.0.1, as the third number is mostly for bug fixes for the current version), and the majority of Mojang is working on both Cobalt and Scrolls, their two new games.
