Listen. I can kill a zombie with my fists. I don't need to craft a diamond sword to do it. That is the charm of this game.
But with experience points will you be forced to go grind mobs or whatever just to level up so that you are strong enough to kill some mobs or to mine some dirt faster? That is lame sauce to the max. It is not creative at all. It is borrowing something that has existed for decades.
Are you forced to tame wolves? Are you forced to create wheat farms? Are you forced to fight creepers? When has this game ever forced you to do anything?
If the system turns out to be anything like that, which I sincerely doubt that it will, you will either want to be better or you won't. You won't be forced into anything. If the game does force you into anything, contact a medical professional.
P.S: I know that jeb said 1.8 won't be the Adventure Mode, but the Mode is still confirmed to be added.
did you by any chance look at the actual citations on that page? The only indication of adventure mode with any recentness at all is over a year old, and so much has changed since then. Adventure Mode is far from confirmed.
Unless you've tested it yourself or seen it yourself, don't trust the Wiki.
I think its good, because if you read about updates, you would know that the survival will exist, as long as adventure and creative.
Maybe you can make blocks in adventure too...

Mortal Kombat - Shaolin Monks. There were only a certain number in the game at specific points and they unlocked a specific ability that was needed as it was needed, which is an interpretation which can be taken from the very, very, little that has been said on the subject.
You fight the monster in the dungeon, pick up a single Experience Orb and then you can use a sword better or differently before. No tally system, no redundancies and nothing more than a substantial reward for a substantial achievement.
However, more than all that. Minecraft has consistently avoided being like other games, so examples of other games aren't that useful.

In regards to the splashes never meaning anything. They are all either references to popular culture or to internet culture. They have never had any meaning beyond that.
It will be playable at PAX on the 28th of August. It will not be released until the feedback from PAX has been incorporated. This places it in September.
