It's just the way things work, do you expect Microsoft to fix issues with Windows 7, XP, 98

I was talking about if there were fixes/workarounds for Minecraft by gpu vendors in the past that potentially got removed, because you mentionef that. I didnt talked about backporting fixes or eol fixes.

Also, the use of fixed-function methods technically isn't even part of the OpenGL spec anymore, I don't think drivers are even required to include support for it (I've seen people get a crash due to "lack of OpenGL" in older versions only).:

Does it actually improve things so much to use new opengl if you dont need it? I have heard the

Consider that the GeForce 7600 GS that I had in my first computer came out in 2006 and supported OpenGL 2.1 so it was probably already emulating it, and this is part of the reason why its behavior and performance varies so much among GPU vendors and models (in theory it can perform better since everything done to emulate it is handled within the driver; as somebody said here, "Nvidia's fixed function is aggressively optimized and even modern OpenGL has too many constraints for any shader-based reimplementation to match it in performance."

So it should be still much faster then the new pipeline? I wonder if the emulation is handled entirely by the driver or also by the os. I didnz managed to find usefull info about it.

Unrelated, but do you know why rain id always a huge lagfactor even in areas without many growable blocks while it just renders these particles and rain overlay?

Interestingly, most driver updates are patches for issues in various games, as opposed to issues with the driver itself, and this is why drivers are so large).

Is it possible that there were fixes for Minecraft too, or any known such stuff? But ig they would have reached out to Mojang then.

Old minecraft is better, its more mystical, and things are not as easy as in new versions. People get mad if they dont find 15 diamonds on day 1. Back in the day one was super lucky to find even 1. Many new features are great, but too easy, making other features useless, and the ambience is quite different, almost another game. Not to mention performance.

But old versions now suffer a lot from performance issues since a few years, before that they were much much faster than recent versions nowdays.
