PS: I am using an AMD RADEON HD8750M Graphic card with the Omega Catalyst driver on an Acer Aspire with win 8.1 64x
I have got an Intel Core i5 4200U 1.6 GHZ CPU
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP MEEEEEE
PS no. 2: I am using mc 1.8 with the Soartex Fanver RPACK
You need to go into the AMD Graphics Control Panel (Catalyst Control Center?)..
Set Java.exe and Javaw.exe to 'high performance' so that it uses the AMD Graphics Adapter.
If you look in your error log, it is using your Intel HD 4400 ;).
You can use that, update the driver to 40XX, and use Sildur's Vibrant 1.06 as well :P.
But yeah you're confirming what I said: You should see no performance loss with your graphics card, as it is faster than mine in every way.
It really is peculiar for me as to why would AF do this to you.
----------------------------------------------------
In any case, you're right. It is a chunk loading issue. I did some more tests, and it seems the lagspikes are worse when riding a horse (especially mine, its very fast breed) because it allows you to travel the world much faster, therefore the world has to load faster.
I already had Smooth World and Fast Render On, but Lazy Chunk Loading cannot be turned On.
Lazy Chunk Loading, Load Far, and Preloaded Chunks cannot be turned On. The setting is Off, and when I click nothing happens.
I tried editing the optionsof.txt file, and set LazyChunkLoading to true. The setting changed in Minecraft, but the problem persists.
Still the same lagspikes, that are worse when traveling by horse. Walking on foot still lags, but not that much.
Looking at MSI Afterburner's Frame Time variance graph, it seems that with every "spike" there's a rise in the graph up to 500-1000 ms when the "spike" is visible in game.
I can post a screenshot if you like.
P.S. I have no idea why these Optifine options wont turn On for me. Maybe someone can help?
No problem, the features are there, but people don't generally know what to do with them. Teehee.. It's amazing how much some of those settings can fix little quirks and bugs.
AA is going to be brutal for anyone who turns it on. You have more control of it from the nVidia/AMD CP, as you can pick which 'mode' you want to use. AF is going to be hit and miss, depending on what card people are using.
If they have 1GB or 2GB of VRAM, chances are they have a 128bit or maybe 192bit memory bus. They are going to bottleneck, and lose a fair amount of performance.
Also, for those who are interested, try turning on USE VBOS in 1.8. It offloads more to the VRAM, letting the video card store and handle more of the calculations. You don't have to wait for data to pass from the CPU -> RAM -> NB -> PCIE and back.
I never tried turning those options on/off, they were just on by default for me.
Optifine is still 'incomplete' at the moment, and those features may be fixed-off for the time being. Either until they can be implemented, or deemed un-necessary and are removed.
I have problems changing mipmap settings, and AF myself. No problems changing from level 1-3, or changing from nearest -> bilinear. I had to force mipmap level 4 and trilinear, however, using the optionsof.txt. And for AF I went from off to level 4, and couldn't change it. I had to bump it/turn it off in the optionsof.txt file as well.
I'm not sure if it's trying to predict the capabilities of your video card, or if it is problems with mods interfering. Or perhaps not being able to access the files for some reason..
I don't spend much time on horses... Or, really run around so much.
How much memory do you have allocated to MC? What are your JVM arguments?
With a 256x RP, perhaps you should bump up your memory allocation...not sure what will help the most.
It Also Says The Device Is Working Properly. I Had Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 Installed For A Minute There, But It Said The Device Wasn't Working Properly. What Does That Mean? I Still Have Intel(R) HD Graphics 10.18.10.4061 Installed Though.
Can you list your processor like I asked so we can make sure?
You're more than likely fine, but better safe than sorry.
If a device is 'not working properly' it could be the wrong drivers, or it could just be that it was in mid-update (or needing a reboot).
How come you guys get affected by AF so much (performance-wise) ?
I did some tests, and it turns out AF and AA have virtually no performance costs. I even disabled my texture pack and went back to vanilla, just to make sure. I can run Minecraft with 16x AF & 16x AA (maxed), at around 200-300 FPS outdoors, and 100-270 FPS indoors. All other settings are maxed.
Both of your graphics cards are way better than mine, and I can guarantee you that Anisotropic Filtering yields nearly no performance cost for these cards. Try it in any game you like, and you will see that 16x AF is very "light" and "easy" on the gfx card.
Could it be that there is some setting that is messed up in Nvidia Control Panel? Or that Optifine 1.8.1 doesnt work as OF 1.8.0? Or something to do with Minecraft itself (1.8.1)?
In any case, for me, the big performance drop comes from 2 things: 1. 8x Supersampling AA, and 2. 256x Redcraft texture pack.
With these things enabled, and all other settings maxed, I get anywhere from 45 to 120 FPS. With V-sync enabled I get 60 FPS, but with a lot of drops to 50, 55, 45, etc when chunks are loading.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The biggest problem I have with Minecraft, is those frequent lag-spikes. I'm calling them lag-spikes, but they arent really.
Its like this: When I travel in the world, when chunks are loading, most of the time its smooth. But there are times where something like a lag-spike happens, its like the game is skipping 5 or 10 frames in a second, and I see a big stutter-freeze-like movement of the screen. Its only for 1-1.5 seconds, but its very annoying, especially when traveling fast with a horse. It only happens when the world is loading (new chunks) and if I stop moving, everything is really smooth.
It could be that the game is trying to load a bunch of chunks at the same time, and something (maybe my CPU) cant quite keep up.
Its a bit hard to describe, but if anyone else has a similar issue, I'd really appreciate some help.
Other than that it runs smooth (if you can call these spikes smooth).
The use of AF / AA is dependent on any mods installed I think, when it comes to functionality. I can't use either of them, but that is because I run with the GLSL Shaders Mod.
Item Physics didn't change performance much. Better Foliage kicked my FPS down about 40% however, but the amazing visual experience is worth it! I get the feeling that most of you guys run with just OF, and no other mods..
For those who don't know:
Mip-mapping is a form of 'repetition' that takes a section of an image, and repeats it at lower resolutions & sizes (powers of 2). Gives the image the effect of a blur, and fades at a distance. It helps to keep lines straight (see below). Because it's a 'repetition' it actually speeds up visual processing :)! Think open field on a sunny day.
Anisotropic Filtering cleans up the blur on lines that are not 'straight', so, it kind of goes hand-in-hand with mipmapping to clean up the edges of the picture on the right above. Below, the left (trilinear) is a form of mipmapping.
So, mipmapping generally speeds up visual rendering. Anisotropic filtering slows it back down (slightly), you won't notice it if your video card has a high memory bandwidth & bus speed. Antialiasing slows visual rendering down (a lot!), this is typically what effects performance the most, aside from a long view distance.
So, morpheas768, you don't see it as much on your 580 because of your memory bus. You've got a 384bit memory bus, unfortunately slower memory, so your throughput is 192.4GB/sec. The 770 / 970 have a 256bit memory bus, but with faster memory, so their throughput is 224GB/sec.
The above, of course is theoretical, but video memory & bandwidth is much faster than RAM and HDD Caching.
As for your frequent lag spikes, that is caused by the chunk loading. It is much better in 1.8 than it was in previous versions. In Optifine under performance you can turn on Smooth World, Fast Render, and Lazy Chunk Loading (these are defaulted to ON). Fast Render is a graphics instruction optimization. Smooth World and Lazy Chunk Loading affects how the chunks are loaded, and does its best to keep MC from loading huge chunks all at once causing stuttering.

Good start, I'm with everyone else, 32XX and 33XX drivers should work on Intel card, but they are missing instruction sets.
Can you go into DXDIAG (windows key + r --> dxdiag --> OK).
What does it say there on the first page for PROCESSOR (4th from the bottom), and MEMORY would be good to know too.
We can then tell you exactly which driver you should be installing. It should be 39XX or 40XX.
You can just install Linux and try to find out what happens under Linux, which (I thought) handles OpenGL 3 just like Mac did.
Nope, Linux and Windows handle OpenGL the same. The 2.0 and 3.2+ contexts can run together in the same namespace.
So, when MC is running in the 2.0 context, the shaders can use the 3.2+ context functions still.
In MacOS, they are completely separate, and not backwards compatible. Shaders runs in 2.0, and 3.2+ functions are not available.
He could get an i3/i5/i7 series computer that has a UEFI BIOS, and install MacOS onto that. Just google Hackintosh. Might have a 'Mac Wannabe' for next to nothing if you can find one second hand ;).

Hrmm ... MacOS and Intel Graphics.
You might just update to 1.7.10 and Optifine, most mods have moved to 1.7.10 anyways.
Karyonix may have released bugfixes in 1.7.10 that never made it to 1.7.2...

Mac I assume?
Go back 1 page and get the 2.4.11 Test build from Karyonix:

Someone else talked about this issue on the ShadersMod thread, I think!
I'd have to dig up the post that has the fix.......
EDIT: Oh, it was in this thread, haha. Link:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1291396-sildurs-shaders-pc-mac-intel-update-4-02-03-15-v1?comment=2151
So, line 315 in final.fsh, you can edit this:
if (pcoc > pw) {
To:
if (pcoc > pw*1.5) {
That's what SirBarclay did. I haven't tested it at all, but it makes sense. The rest of the code is already the same.
If the DoF is appearing too far away, you can take the 1.5 down to a smaller number (1.4 / 1.3 / 1.25 / etc).

You can roll back to 2.3.5, or try the test build that Karyonix posted 3 posts up:

Else, you can go here for now:

Hmm, is that a problem with your FOV setting?
You can try deleting your options.txt and optionsof.txt and have MC re-create them.

You don't have to wait for data to pass from the CPU -> RAM -> NB -> PCIE and back.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertex_Buffer_Object

Can you list your processor like I asked so we can make sure?
You're more than likely fine, but better safe than sorry.
If a device is 'not working properly' it could be the wrong drivers, or it could just be that it was in mid-update (or needing a reboot).
7

You should be good with that version, at least the best you can be, as long as it's the proper version for your hardware.

Just saying, if you are having general issues, you can post in the ShadersMod thread.
Issues with Sildur's specific shaderpacks should be here.
You'll get more help that way ;)!
You're on a MAC, correct? Are you running the latest ShadersMod 2.4.10? It's supposed to fix the shadow-glitch that you guys were having.

Refresh my memory (and others), please.
Mac, Windows, or Linux?
Video card, and driver version?
Forge version?
Optifine version?
ShadersMod version?
Specific errors -- screenshot or log?
Please use spoilers if posting the log, better to use paste.ee and link it here.

That's good .... why are you posting this here?
Does Sildur's Vibrant or Basic crash?

The ZIP is probably opening automatically after it is saved..
There would be a shaders folder, and then a bunch of FSH & VSH files inside that.
You are using the main links, AdFly -> MediaFire <<< Correct?
