posted a message on Natural Disasters
I just spawned in an all new world in the middle of a desert biome and got startled because the screen started shaking and I heard a 'wind' noise.

I have spawned right over a zombie dungeon with sand on top once before. (I fell into it with the sand and died via zombie before they burst into flame via sunlight.) I thought this was happening again so I stood in place but I just continued to take damage... It was kind of like an earthquake. For a brief few seconds I felt like I needed to LEAVE this desert biome because I would continue to take damage from the earthquake/sand storm.

Turned out I just spawned on a cactus >.>

    http://s774.photobucket.com/albums/yy28 ... g&newest=1

But it was awesome feeling that helplessness on the surface rather than just deep underground.

Natural disasters could be biome related.

Dust tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, storms and fires all scream minecraft survival.

Tornadoes could shred blocks and tear them into their inventory counterparts leaving a trail of ripped up land. earthquakes could produce something similiar to when newly generated worlds combine with old ones and have 'slices' of land. Floods would leave water everywhere to be cleaned up. Storms could host lightning bolts which destroy ceiling blocks. Fires could burn wood. We've all seen a cramped forest burn down with the new update and thought 'awesome'.

These would be rare occurences. input/suggestions?

I like the idea. would be very useful for keeping your crops healthy and I can see a scarecrow being crafted.

    :Skeleton: = Pumpkin face

This would make pumpkins less useless year round.

looks like theres a reason to kill chickens, then. (or zombies) and then make a tower of gravel with torches underneath and have em fall on the torches to get the flint easy. I think it works that way. if not just pillar yourself up on a tower of gravel then dig it down and repeat. youll get lots of arrows

stop suggesting iron. just stop. iron is even more rare than diamonds. it's even more rare than clay. you know how rare clay is? its only all over the ****ing beach. caves are very limited in minecraft and it would take a whole 15 minutes to find a new one and mine 30 iron and be set with lanterns for a long time. anyone else who suggests iron is so totally stupid. totally. k? :Iron: :Sheep:

hey donkey dude its friday, don't you have a better thing to do than troll the minecraft forums?

    I think it's pyrite.

The name pyrite is derived from the Greek πυρίτης (puritēs), "of fire" or "in fire" and just look at the picture there...

I think it looks great and can't wait to explore. Did he implement 'danger' into the biome mix? it kinda looks like it at 1:49 in the video but I can't be sure :wink.gif:

How about refined Iron? Or a gold block? That would make them worth trying to kill rather than just running away. They could also drop a bunch of clay.

Diamonds are rare, and thus hard to find. I was thinking because it takes so long to find them, that it'd be a huge hassle to keep relighting torches since it can take days or weeks to find a cave system with diamonds in it

Are you kidding me it takes like 30 min
...for you.
for everyone :smile.gif: just dig a staircase down to :opblock: and then turn right and dig about 16 blocks and then go back to your staircase and go up three blocks and repeat the process :smile.gif: strip mining ftw
Doesn't that get kinda boring? I feel like it is an adventure game... Lighting up a whole cave system and putting fences and naming all the stalactites and stalagmites just seems more fun to me. Esp. when there is danger present - but not EVERY DAMN TIME you go back to explore more cave. i have a save file where I discovered an amazing cave, complete with devil's mouth, grand staircase, two zombie spawners, grand hallway, leading into another devil's mouth, which you go down and find a BIG ASS room of lava with water flowing down the middle. All naturally formed. Strip mining ftw/sarcasm.

Edit: having to strip mine to find diamond then make obsidian then go to hell to get resources for light TO EXPLORE a cave that was higher then you seems like jumping ahead too much to me..............

posted a message on 'Hell' Could be for PVP?
Just had an awesome thought.. what if this 'hell' realm is going to be used for PVP? much like Runescape's previous 'Wilderness'. You can't just randomly attack people in that game - unless you both are located within the wilderness. Do you think this would be awesome for minecraft and make hell even more dangerous?

EDIT: sorry if i didn't word this very well... My ideas were pouring out of my head

I don't like it. If he makes it so you have to use hellstone as a fuel source then you have to go through a TON of steps just to get infinite light. The way I like to play is not just digging down really far then branching out, but actually finding a gigantic cave system and exploring the whole thing to finally reach the ultimate diamonds. With infinite light this works but without it it does not as you have to go back to the cave many times after dieing/running out of torches. My solution is to make lanterns out of

    [] :Glass: []
    [] :Coal: []
    [] :Iron: []

= four lanterns. This is mildly resource intensive without being too easy. torches still get a use in finding the iron. Etc. It should leave enough to the imagination that this design 'holds' the fuel source better so that it is 'infinite' unlike simple torches. it also just makes sense... A lantern needs a protective transparent chamber, a fuel source, and a holder. what do you think?
