posted a message on Low FPS with a 7850 2gb
Minor update, tried overclocking my CPU to 3.0Ghz and managed to finally break that 60 FPS barrier, It settles now around 70 fps but this is quite obviously very low for my system. I am currently at the same spot where I started when I had a 4850. If anyone has any input on the matter please post.

Kind of an obvious answer, but you are plugging your monitor into the card, not the motherboard, right?

It just seems strange because running Minecraft at 20fps should not be keeping the GPU usage at 0%.

    Yes, lol.

Believe me I'm baffled by this whole ordeal as well, as I've said I've tried anything from different cords to different drivers.

On a side note, I uninstalled and reinstalled java for like the 3rd time and this time it allows me to play at about 40-80 FPS depending on conditions, so I'm at least capable of playing again, yay!

I still know this far below where it SHOULD be playing though, so if any suggestions pop up I'm still watching. I'd still like this fixed.

Might be a stupid suggestion. But have you installed the 6pin adapter for the GPU? Only thing I can think of as the 2fps might be coming from the integrated GPU. This is because the 4850 is motherboard powered from the PCIe slot and some people, when upgrading, forget to install the 6pin adapter.

Both the 4850's and the 7850's required a 6 pin, I believe only the latest 4850's stopped using the 6 pin, but I didn't have one of those.
Also, the MB warns me when I leave it unplugged, either that or the card does, I accidently did that once and it warned me so before I even reached BIOS.

Does the 6600 have integrated graphics? do not have any knowledge on them old cpus.

No they don't, still on good 'ol fashion MB graphics, though I checked to see if I could to disable but to no avail.

Your CPU may be Bottlenecking your GPU.

It's most definitely a bottle neck, but not in this game. Not to mention I already said I used to run this game flawlessly with a 4850 but for some reason swapping to the 7850 I get crap frames. I would blame the GPU for having some problem but it work as expected in all other applications, just not minecraft. It seems minecraft just doesn't work well with this generation of card, people have been having problems left and right with them.

Put strain on the system. Turn minecraft all the way up (use optifine if you have to) and see if it helps.

    What are your system specs?

Turned everything up and increased load via CC, optifine unfortunately isn't up to date so not really an option.

C2Q 6600 3.O ghz (tried reseting to default clocks, Fps droped due to slower speeds)
XFX 7850 2gb 1 mhz OC to cancel to low clock speed bug (tried normal clocks, makes it worse)
    ASUS P5N E-SLI
    Generic Samsung RAM 1gb x4
XFX PSU 550w (can't remember name but it's a decent one and more than enough to hold what I have)

Hello all, I bought a 7850 a while back and it work pretty damn awesome in all titles but this one; in this one it uses 0% of my GPU and I get close to 20 FPS on a good day. I upgraded from a 4850 which netted me about 80 FPS or higher. I've tried AA/AF in the control panel to make the GPU "work" more and tried setting the priority to high. I've done a few other minor things but nothing seems to help at all. And I OC'ed the card by 1mhz to stop it from going into the "Zero" state these cards usually do, and while MSI/CCC are reporting that's working it doesn't seem to have any real effect though it reduced some minor stutters in Skyrim.

    Any help guys?

So is $120 just for the CPU, or do you need the whole package within $120?

CPU, though the FX-6300 seemed solid that Haku posted seems solid.

Also anyone got any answered on OC'ing the Dual Core?

You're definitely going to need a new motherboard, the most of an upgrade you could get is a Core 2 Extreme which are horribly overpriced. Is $120 your total budget for everything?

Oh lord no, That's just processor and even then I don't expect miracles. Just looking for some help on picking the best Proc within budget (or close to it). Will go from there.

    WHat is your gpu/ psu.

A cpu upgrade could be a complete waste if you have a crap gpu.

Sorry, to clarify the CPU is currently the weak link. I have a 7870 and a XFX 650w pro (80+ bronze?) or something like that something like 45-50 amps on the 12v though can't remember it all off the top of my head.

    EDIT:
Also both the PSU/GPU were bought to future proof for newer builds, it's obviously way way overkill for what I currently have.

I'm currently rocking a Q6600 @ 2.7 Ghz but looking for more, I would overclock as I have a really nice G0 stepping Q6 but unfortunately I am using an Asus P5N E-SLI which simply doesn't work well with quads at all. It makes little sense buying a new motherboard for a processor that's almost half a decade old (as much as I actually want to) so I've got a few questions to ask on moving forward.

(Pre-notes I have a decent power supply, cooling, etc for anything new, OC'ed, etc)

A.) I have a C2D E6600 laying around that I could probably overclock the crap out of, I know for most games this would be an upgrade but for games like BF3 and Planetside 2 would I be taking a hit due to the lack of cores or would the (potential) higher frequency make up for it?

B.) Plan to buy new Proc/Motherboard/RAM and need advice on the best bang for your buck at around $120

All help appreciated, thanks for your time.

not sure, lowest we usually go here is a 6670 for just MC, and a 6770 is out of budget, without his specs though we really have no idea what to recommend, have him download Piriform Speccy and post a screenshot so we can see what we're working with, cause we don't know if his case would even accept a new PSU

Woah woah woah? 6670 for the "LOWEST"? A 6450 could run minecraft just fine, let alone a 6670.

Good, thanks for letting us know, the guy who previously owned it must have not known anything about overclocking.
Yeah, he doesn't know much about computers beyond basic defragging/virus scans.
