Maybe you don't use the MSI soundpack? I think the default pack doesn't have this sound included.

I tend to agree, I too disliked this particular sound change, but I've gotten used to it. To me the current sound is somewhat like a creepers sneezing sound when you hit it, which is a bit unsettling at times and makes me paranoid that I got a creeper behind me about to blow up.

Haha, it's absolutely the same with me! Everytime I hear one particular sound sample of the sand sounds, a shot of adrenaline bursts into my body, as it sounds absolutely the same like a crepper fizzling. :D

So I also prefer the new sounds - but I'm already eager to hear what new sounds 1.9 will bring.

posted a message on How do we record minecraft without LAG!!!! PLZ HELP

Okay, so the program is called Loilo Game Recorder, you can download it here:

    http://loilo.tv/gb/product/game_recorder

Some tips to get more performance.

    Ingame:

    - lower render distance (this has a huge impact!)

    - enable fast graphics

    - enable unlimited fps (always do this while recording, if your machine is not the best!)

    - in the launcher, make sure you have enough RAM dedicated to Java, but not too much! Too less RAM results in frequent micro-freezes, but 2GB of RAM should be enough. It's not good to use too much RAM, as well!

    - use Optifine and tweak it the way it is best for your machine

(- as a last resort: lower the fullscreen resolution of your game with Optifine)

    In the program:

    - lower quality (85 is already quite decent and higher values do result in less fps)

    - lower the resoltion and frame rate (720p and 30 fps are already good for Youtube)

    - and finally, make sure the DirectX/OpenGL recording mode is enabled

But don't lower everything directly, try around a bit so you find out what's the best possible quality you can achieve.

Furthermore, turn up the ingame brightness so the videos don't get too dark. I hope this helps! Please report your results. :)

Am I allowed to recommend a certain recording program here? It's free and it really gave me very good results, out of all the programs I tried.

I get around 100 FPS ingame without recording and with this program I was able to record at 60 fps with native resolution and good quality!

At 720p/30fps I still get 80 fps! The only problem is that the videos are a bit darker than the original gameplay.

But all in all I was stunned by the performance of this program!

Unfortunately, the underwater loop is gone since a long time already, I think 1.6.x was the last version where it worked.

I think there was a certain problem which prevented the mod from reliably playing the loop, so the function got removed, and I don't know if there's an easy fix for it.

posted a message on Re-add Void Fog with an option to enable it
    Quote from TheMasterCaver»
    (...)
It is obvious that the alleged performance impact is from rendering 4000 particles, not void fog itself (the difference in FPS between the last two is not significant, plus I disabled fog in general, not just void fog. These also make it look like the game needs a lot more memory to render void fog and particles but that is just a coincidence). Note also that Optifine lets you selectively enable/disable various types of particles, something that should also be in vanilla, then you can disable void particles without sacrificing other particles if they cause too much of a reduction in FPS (or just re-add void fog without particles).

If the performance impact is really caused by those particles, the situation might be better in 1.9, as particles won't be entities anymore, which should increase performance. So they might as well reintroduce the particles as well.

Wow, this new shader customization is really awesome! sp614x, you are really pushing the modding scene and helping Minecraft's community! :)

May this even be the end of all those shaderpack versions for different computer configurations (like lite - medium - high etc.)?

Maybe with an added "profile" menu, whose profiles can be determined by the shader pack author and which automatically set all the sliders/switches to a certain configuration suited for a certain computer power level.

This would end all those different versions cluttering up the shaders folder and would enable the users to easily fine-tune every profile/version to their individual system. I think this would be the best! :)

Thanks for the reply, RobertFrans. I'm also thinking about this: If I only explore a tiny little bit and leave all strongholds undiscovered, will there still generate 128 strongholds and so on?

Is there any information on wheter you get all the new features (strongholds, iglus, new end etc.) if you make a 1.8 world now and use it later in 1.9?

I remember they said you will be able to fight the dragon again, but will everything be the same? Or should one better wait till 1.9 until creating a new world?

Preview OptiFine F6 for 1.8 is available here.

    - added support for shaders

    - added all features of OptiFine F6 for 1.8.8

    - compatible with Forge #1543

    Nice!
I wonder what gives me more performance: If I unload ShadersMod-v2.4.7 (as a Liteloader mod) and use Optifine's solution instead, or if I continue using the original shader mod.
Are there performance improvements Optifine achieved, or is it mainly the same thing as the original mod?

Edited: Ok this is not what i actually can use, the server i run is on 1.7.2 on cauldron. Our server owner does NOT want to switch to 1.7.10 because of the new EULA that doesnt accept ingame advantages through real money payment. Now i see and i know Pay2Win is kinda stupid anyways but he doesn´t want to listen to me in that case. (we need a bit money to finance the server) I will try learning java and compiling the source code into a working 1.7.2 one.

Wasn´t there a 1.7.2 test version? And if i think i remember clearly when OP said he will first bring out a 1.7.2 version before 1.6.4 . Didn´t he continue?

You are right, there was a test version. I used it myself back then, it is stable, but has some bugs (e.g. rainsounds don't play reliably).
    Look over here:

Apart from the Breeze pack in the post above (which doesn't contain many sounds), there is also a version of MSI working with it:
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1290798-1-6-2-minecraft-sound-improvement-custom-music-a?comment=114

Liteloader for 1.7.2 is right here:

    http://dl.liteloader.com/redist/1.7.2/liteloader-installer-1.7.2-04.exe

If you use Forge and Optifine, you must try around a bit. I think this version of Liteloader doesn't yet support Optifine as a "tweak", so Optifine must be loaded as a forge mod, but I am not sure anymore!! Back up your .minecraft directory, if you want to mess around with this.

I can't seem to download the sound pack from Git. Opened the MSI, cloned to desktop, and got only a Home.md file which directs me to the same Github page again.

The Author's thread provides a Mediafire link for the 1.4 version, is that the newest one? I heard a lot of biomes were released on 1.7, does it mean I'll hear nothing in the new ones?
The download link from the git gives me a 404

Clone to desktop is for the source, usually.
You should use the download link from the bottom of the page. Though you are right, it gives a 404. Also, the certificate seems to be broken.
I think dags has to take a look a this.

Wow, Pvt_Pirate, it would be so cool if you enter a church you've build and a peaceful melody would start playing - kinda like a theme song.

Couldn't you limit this to only specific block types, so random dirt crosses wouldn't trigger this?
