Criticism is allowed and (as previously stated) requested! But do note, berating is NOT criticism. This is my first texture pack. Infact, its my first anything-realated-to-textures, so yes, I am a novice.

Creationism is an attempt to make Intelligent Design sound scientific, and it fails catastrophically.

What makes the whole "Creationism/Evolution" thing so strange is that it is so specific. It is a single set of supposedly competing theories (Creationism is not a theory, I explained why that is- it's based solely on innate and one could also say a childish need to look at things in a teleological sense.

But when I say specific, is particularly with regards to the "teach the controversy" bit that was started ages ago when this whole debate was started by christian apologists on school board councils. There isn't any "controversy" outside religious fundamentalists, though.

And it raises the question- the posit is typically, "well, you should teach Evolution and creationism both, in the interest of fairness".

By the same metric, should we teach the "stork" theory of reproduction next to the sex "theory"?
Should we teach the 'theory' of celestially inspired attraction next to the Theory of electromagnetism?
Should we teach the 'theory' that Pi is 3 next to the "theory" that it is 3.1415926...?

The problem I think is that somehow, "theory" came to mean the same thing as an opinion. You have an idea on how something works, it's a theory, in the colloquial sense. However, when we talk about the Theory of Evolution, or the Theory of electromagnetism, or the theory of General Relativity, etc. we aren't talking about a simple idea of how certain things work; we're talking about a theory in the purest scientific sense, a well-substantiated explanation of observed phenomena that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly confirmed through further observation and experimentation, and which provides verifiable or falsifiable predictions.

The theory of Evolution by Natural Selection meets this criteria. The Theory of Electromagnetism does. the "Theory" of Creationism doesn't meet this definition. It is nothing more than a opinion being presented as a theory; on the pedestal of the idea that "all opinions are equally valid" allowing apologists for the causes in question to push it as a "theory" in the colloquial sense, putting it on the same level as Evolution and Electromagnetism, which are, "only a theory". Creationism is a theory only in the colloquial sense. It has no well-substantiated explanations of observed phenomena acquired via the scientific method and repeatedly confirmed via further observation and experimentation.

Putting Creationism on par with the Theory of Evolution through Natural Selection is analogous to giving equal consideration the the scientific theory of reproduction via Sex and the theory of reproduction through stork delivery. One has a well-substantiated body of evidence showing it to the be true. the other has opinions and assertions (I'm sure there is a site somewhere that is not satirical that may support this supposed cause...). When you actually look at the evidence support each side- you see that one has well-substantiated evidence acquired via the scientific method. The other has anecdotes and complaints and FUD that tries to elevate itself to the same level as evolutionary theory by simply saying "Evolution is just a theory, so is creationism! Teach the controversy!"
