posted a message on Rewarding old players
The Minecraft Dev team used to promise that Alpha users would receive an incentive for paying for the game while it was in early Alpha. Later on they hinted Alpha users would get a cape.

Eventually the whole notion of early-adoption incentives were completely forgotten.

posted a message on Why is Minecraft so overrated?
But then again, part of the appeal of building is the effort required to gather materials. That eighty-foot golden cock and balls wouldn't be so satisfyingly turgid if it weren't for the entire continent you had to turn upside-down to find all the ore. And that's what sets it apart from other creativity toys like Garry's Mod. If you can just clap your hands and summon fifty explosive barrels to pile ragdolls around, then the spectacle is as fulfilling as eating your own snot. Minecraft is a responsible parent. It knows you'll swiftly get bored of your golden cock and balls if it just gives you one, so it pays you five dollars a week to wash its car so you can save up and gain an appreciation for value. And when you finally have your golden cock and balls, you'll love it all the more.

posted a message on MapWriter - An open source mini-map!
    Quote from Shiroshi

I haven't encountered that problem myself, but if you can show me the log, I can take a look. If you're not sure how to get the log, please PM me for more help

This has been occurring for me as well. Sometimes it loads the map for the realms server just fine, but every so often it erases all progress. Observed in release 1.7.10. I'm not aware of how to get the log specifically for MapWriter.

EDIT: I just checked the folder for Realms maps and it seems to be creating a new map every so often. I can only imagine this is because the way Realms works the actual server address probably changes constantly. Maybe there's a way to tie it together?

My folders are called things like:

    ec2_23_20_152_223_compute_1_amazonaws_com_26771
    ec2_54_82_241_175_compute_1_amazonaws_com_27034
    ec2_54_204_117_104_compute_1_amazonaws_com_26923

posted a message on HELP With Windows or Linux
People are going to jump down my throat for this, but I actually recommend Windows 8. It's secure, it's supported, the Metro App store has some useful stuff in it, and the 8.1 update for it is coming out soon that will fix the niggling little doubts everyone's had about it. I fixed the Start button issue with a $2 application and it works great. The metro start screen isn't all that bad either (same with the start button, it's made better with a few modifications, I like the one where I can set up all my Steam games in their own private rectangles)

I also dual boot with the latest linux mint packages, but I've run minecraft servers with CentOS and Ubuntu Server. If you want to play minecraft in a linux enviroment, you should already see speed increases with a Ubuntu install.

posted a message on I think I may have a R.A.T. on my computer, and they are stealing my MC passwords...
    Quote from CrystalxNeth

Well, I didnt intentionally download anything. A guy came onto my server, asked me to advertise my server on his site. I go to the site and it asks me to allow java, so I do so. Then a cmd prompt opens up real quick, then closes. Then the website says "failed to connect". Next thing I know, there are two ops on my server, one being the owner of the "site". I deopped them, banned them, banned their ip's, both of which I have. Changed my password, changed the SSH dedicated box password, and tonight I still got a bad login error when no one but me knows my new password.

and where would I go to apprehend these people?

Someone didn't update their Java. A critical vulnerability was discovered that allows Java to run executables outside the Java sandbox. This has been patched since then, but the high media attention it received and the tendency of people to not update Java make it a very real threat even now.

Please report the names of the users that did this to you, the web site they asked you to visit, and any other pertinent information that can be used to identify the perpetrators or at least to warn others about them.

You were using the .exe to run and operate the server? You didn't even have the jar when you put up the server ad? This is seven different kinds of silly right now.

    Immibis Core 52.0.3:
    • Fixed packaging again.
I should probably note that the actual code seems to work fine, the problems were in the way it got zipped and in mcmod.info.

    Edit: TubeStuff/Dimensional Anchors 52.0.3:
    • Fixed packaging again.

I swapped to 52.0.3 but I still have the same issue. What Forge are you using?
