Unfair on people who just want to make something aesthetically pleasing, or people who want to make adventure maps, without having hundreds of mobs swarming towards it.
They're not in 1.8. Notch pretty much intentionally removed them, but supposedly has plans to include unusual terrain like the Far Lands in the future.
So, Notch is adding full mod support, huh? What if...
> He adds downloadable mods for each server(like source engine)? For example:
Someome makes a new skill for the new experience system named "Fireball".
The skill launches some custom modelled/textured fireball(ignore the ghasts' one). It's not on normal Minecraft, but when you enter the server, it checks if you got it. Got it? Ok, enter. Didn't got it? You'll download automatically from the mod link. Inside Minecraft.
It would be cool, because we could have some servers with Aether, another ones with custom items and etc, making the game more "fluid" and less ETW(easy to win. Minecraft today resumes in: Get diamonds, kill bastards, build something, stop playing because it got annoying, come back in another update).
Good example?
I want to create a RPG server. Right! Heroes plugin ftw, mcmmo, blablabla...aaaaaand 4 item sets?!
What if I want to make a Bloodsword that is not a Gold Sword, but a new item? New minerals? The servers would have a complete new world to explore!
