FIRST, you have to get BUKKIT. You must get that in order for plugin support, or else you'll just get vanilla minecraft, meaning everyone can do what they want. Then, for fly mode, you can do rocketboots, superpowers, or some other mod like that. For protecting areas, so that no one can grief, use World Edit AND World Guard. World Guard needs world edit in order to protect areas. Other commands, use command book or essentials. Magic Carpet (MC) only gives you a magic carpet of 3x3, 5x5, 0r 7x7 area of glass in which you can "float" to places. Its just like regular walking except in the air. LWC Lightweight Chest Protection is for locking chests and doors so that no one else but the owner can open them.

Okay, so I'm hosting a server from my mac, using the Minecraft_Server.jar file from the downloads section of the website, and using hamachi so my friends can join. Does anyone know how I can get fly mode (or other different commands than just the /give and so on) onto my server.
Also, how do you protect doors and other blocks, so that they cannot be deleted by anyone other than the user who placed it? Thanks!
If your just trying to run a server for you and other people to play on (on the same network), you can have others connect to your static ip, as endofzero mentioned above, but you'd still have to port forward for that.
But with Hamachi, if you have everything set up correctly, you should both be able to connect using the Hamachi IP.
Make sure that the other person has Hamachi installed and is connected to your network.

I just made a new server on minecraft, and I can connect fine but my friend cannot. I'm using Hamachi, and he's at my house so we're both on the same IP, is this the problem?
