Config option I think. Been a while since I ran TFC though. Going to wait for it to be a bit more stable.
Though my one input would be: ores seem to be way to freaking rare to get anything done.
I think we were all spoiled on vanilla Minecraft
Although finding a vein can be hard, they tend to be rather large. I finally found iron in my current game and I now have a complete chestful of the stuff. From one vein!! That's enough to get me into the steel age and make some armor.
I think it's balanced quite well. It can actually take a couple of Minecraft days to find some ore - it's not like you're going to find the stuff in your own backyard.
In SMP you cannot craft a sword. Neither a beginners stone sword on the crafting table nor later, by using the plans and smelted ingots. It is not being recognied in the game. Therefore you are left helpless in the mob world and have nothing to defend yourself with until you can find the ore to make a mace. In a cave in, blocks fall and turn to cobble, however, the blocks remain solid in the ceiling as though they never fell and can still be mined. Making torches in the forge will sometimes give you two torches per one stick (as it should be)or just one single torch.
I've made a tin sword in SMP. What ore are you using? Are you making 2x ingots? Certain ores are still bugged, like Bismuth, but I believe most should work.
Also, you can make a javelin which will provide some defense before you can craft a sword.
I am at sealevel, and my "height" is registering at block height "147"...If I dig "down" into the ground about 10 blocks I find "clouds", for there are none in the sky. I am trying to generate a new world for this mod, however, due to the strange ground level height, I keep spawning in solid rock where I suffocate, or in underground water pockets where I drown.
So far....this mod is unplayable and terribly broken.
The sea level of the world has changed to about 140 or so. That's part of the mod.
It's a known bug that clouds still appear at their old level (around 130). This will be fixed in Beta 2 Pre 17 (you can see it listed in the patch notes on the main page).
What other mods do you have installed along with this one? I haven't heard of people constantly spawning in solid rock - could something else be forcing you to spawn at a height of around 64?
Speaking of jungles, why did he remove saplings? I mean getting saplings from jungle trees in vanilla is a pain in the butt, but why did he remove it altogether?
Too easy to harvest lots of logs... it would make surviving trivial
yea i tried with the 2x ingots first but im starting to think you cannot make a bismuth sword
Ahhh Bismuth. That's one of the bugs. My friend had the same frustration when he tried to make a bismuth sword.
I could have sworn the issue was listed in the bug tracker but I can't seem to find it. Either way, I know the Bismuth sword can't be made as of pre16.
wow i love this mod so much even on multi-player it works great. but i do have one concern. i think that the swords in mp are bugged as in they cannot be made. and i also have one question about this mod. what are the gems used for and why are they so common? me and my cousin after about 3 min of gold panning got about 3 chests full of gems and we don't know what to do with them lol. this is such a great mod and i hope that you having as much fun making it as me and my friends are playing it.
How are swords bugged in multiplayer? I was able to make a tin sword for me and my wife, and I don't see why I can't make us an iron sword or some other metal.
Gems don't do anything yet, but will play a part in a future update.
I think it depends on the way you run it on Windows systems, because I run it as administrator and only occasionally have lag, and only for a second. However, it DOES crash sometimes when I try sorting with InvTweaks, but that's just a minor bug.
New potential bug! Bizmuth Bronze sheets won't make 2x sheets.
Neither does Wrought Iron, Rose Gold, and Red Steel.
Thank you kindly! How do I weld two sheets? They won't go together, nor will they heat up! I also tried dropping the wrought iron into the back of the bloomery, but it's not working :/
That's currently a bug. I had the same problem - wrought iron sheets won't heat up. Nor will rose gold sheets and red steel I believe.
You can melt a wrought iron ingot in a forge. I didn't need a bellows either, just used coal and let the ingot sit at the bottom slot. My forge sits at about a y of 160, which makes a difference in the temperature. It only melts after it reaches brilliant white.
1. when i launch it, i get this: http://i49.tinypic.com/jgsas4.jpg
while this does not prevent me from playing in any way, i find it strange that i would get 61 lines of errors with only the mods required installed.
2. i notice i have no ability to make a weapon when i'm starting out.. is there something to replace a stone sword?
You use a javelin in the stone age now. It's like making a flint tool only with an extra stick.
The prospector's pick isn't quite a cheat or even that magical. It's based on actual prospecting in real life. It scans a 25x25x13 area to see if there's a vein within those blocks. That's a huge area - over 8000 blocks!! It takes time to zero in which chunk might contain the vein. It's an actual skill that one would need to develop in order to get good at it. Try it out - I felt the same as you do before I gave the pick a try and noticed it wasn't easy at all.
I believe (don't quote me on this) that the only thing that currently works as flux is limestone. You don't need to crush it beforehand but just put it in the righthand side space on the anvil. I know that used to work as it was done in the spotters guide series so try that and let us know if it works for you.
Now how hard or easy it might be to find limestone I can't say as I couldn't find any but you might just dig two blocks and find some. I guess you could try it on creative first and see if it works.
There's a number of stone you can use to create flux now (check the wiki for which ones). You place the stone in your crafting box with a metal hammer and you'll be able to crush it into flux. Just last night in pre16 I used crushed chalk.
This mod is great and I see a lot of potential for it. I love the entire metallurgy system and the new ores and trees. I'm not quite a fan of the time-consuming process for gathering logs/sticks/saplings for charcoal and other things. I understand that the point of the mod is to make sure survival mode stays survival, but there's a line between activity and tediousness.
Keep up the excellent work! I'm looking forward to the agriculture overhaul.
Update: I can make a campfire and place it in the world. It has the proper texture too. If I place it next to snow, it'll eventually melt the snow, so I assume the mod is working correctly on the server end as well.
So why aren't the plants and trees generating with new chunks or with world generation? The spawns.xie file in the content looks okay - is there anything else that can be modified that would turn off crops and plants from generating? Just to check, I copied the default content from the link (feb7th) which I know generated stuff before, with nothing still being generated.
Yeah, I planned to do this, just never got around to it. Was going to add colourfully patterned wool blocks too, for carpets and walls. If only I had more time lol. Unfortunatley most of my time is spent updating/debugging, rather than actually making content which is what I'd prefer to be doing obviously
That's a problem, the content needs to be loaded server side and client side for it to work properly, otherwise the new content just won't show up. Make sure you've installed the content correctly client-side. Also rememer to regenerate chunks for your server's world, the new content will only be spawned in new chunks. (The easiest way to test for new content that I've found is to try making a campfire, as 4 sticks is easy to come by).
I'm generating a completely new world each time. The client and server are both claiming that everything was loaded - the 0 was just a one time thing for some reason.
Has anyone else tried the server/multiplayer version? Any luck? With a new world or existing save?

Swords require 2x ingots, instead of just a single ingot. Were you welding two ingots together first before trying to make the sword?
Other than that, it's just a matter of working the 2x ingot with the sword plan.

It should just sit in the output... does that eventually decrease? I haven't done much testing, but I haven't had that problem yet.
