Yes, I was aware of that mod. I doubt such a thing would be implemented into vanilla unless it could be shown to work okay on older systems (after Minecraft's code is more properly optimized we can see if that's the case.)
The transitions look almost too smooth to be using the default light system. I would guess that it uses some kind of custom rendering code to display the light effect, then updates the actual light levels (for use in mob spawning, etc.) far less frequently (if at all.)
No, the dynamic lights have no effect on mob spawning. The guy says it somewhere in the thread.
What about inverting that idea? Instead of making it setting off redstone, it insulates you from redstone triggers like plates. Maybe not a full set of armor, but it would make great boots.
To help play into this, instead of a redstone ball, make a restone block. Aside from the storage advantage, it can be used as a contract trigger like the RS ore properties. It would also make vertical signal transmission a hell of a lot easier with a block adjacency rule.
As for the overall armor idea, what about blending an effect with the blocking mechanic?
I would prefer cloud wire for this
I would love a storage block for redstone though, I've wanted one for a while and we might have one in the A.D.D. mod along with the "cloud wire" seen above.
The cloud wire won't actually look like that by the way, we haven't got a model for it yet.
It's laggy as you said, but it's still possible. That itself is a good sign.
It's really minecraft that's the problem here, it needs some serious performance updates, and some optimizing too.
Too bad optifine can't be implemented officially. The creator and mojang apparently couldn't work out a settlement or something? That would really help some of the performance issues though.
So here's a question (forgive me as I'm new to this forum): Do suggestions in the forums ever get implemented in Minecraft, and if so, how do the devs decide? Because if I had to choose one suggestion to implement it would certainly be this one.
PFFFFFFFFFT
That's a good one.
Rather rarely my friend. There really isn't any kind of system to it. If something get's popular enough, it might have a chance at getting noticed and implemented.
Something I really want to do some day is to have some kind of actual system for suggesting ideas to mojang, and have the community at large have some kind of hand in the development of the game.
The previous system, (Getsatisfaction) was closed down a while ago, and really didn't get anything done.
Hopefully mojang get's some kind of "Community manager" that will actually spend time browsing various minecraft communities looking for good ideas to be sent to the devs for consideration.
Heck, even if it was a voluntary position, completely unpaid, I would gladly take that kind of role.
Yes, but that doesn't have anything to do with a change in the lighting system. You can have colored glow effects now, but it won't actually light up blocks or anything.
There's nothing to really do. Everytime something that gives off light moves to another block, every block effected has to have its light recalculated. That can mean hundreds of block faces per light-emitting entity per second, which is not good for weaker computers.
The best we can do is increase minecrat's performance to compensate for that.
Or maybe have some kind of system that gives the illusion of dynamic lighting.
yeah but how would you choose which air block you wanted to place the redstone on? i mean like, what would be keeping the system from choosing the block of air BEHIND the desired one?
It's the exact same concept behind fences, they are free floating, but you still need a block to start on. Then you can just place the wire on itself and destroy the starting block.
Not that hard to understand.
Think about Redstone DUST for a minute or too.
DUST doesn't float. It falls down.
Thats why it needs to be placed on a block.
No support.
That's why I called it CLOUD WIRE.
It's not PURE REDSTONE, it's redstone crafted with HIGHLY DANGEROUS THUNDERCLOUDS.
It's a concept I have been working on with my team at All Dem Dimensions for a while.
It's a cloud, so naturally, it floats.
It's a Cloud of redstone, and thus it transfers current.
I don't think there should be free-floating wires, as that would take all the difficulty out of it. However, color-coded wires that only connect to the same color on non-colored wires would be VERY useful, like what RedPower does.
There is still a 15 block limit to the power transmission, so it's not as simple as "1.Place cloud wire 2.????? 3.PROFIT!!!11one!"
I'm an amateur redstoner, and I can't seem to get this to work right.
I'm trying to get it so that the wool blocks switch places covering up the glowstone when you switch the lever.
So the light blue wool is in front of the glowstone by default, then when you hit the switch, the piston retracts and the lime wool is pushed in front of the glowstone.
I know there has to be some form of delay in there, as well as an inverter, but I can't seem to figure it out.

This would probably work better as an armor enchant.

They can give off a glow though, much like spider eyes and endymen eyes.
I really hope that they can fix some of the performance problems concerning DYNAMIC LIGHTING.
I would really love to have some sweet bioluminecent jellies

That balances it enough IMO

All Dem Dimensions already has cloud wire. It's been on the drawing board for a while on our forum, our main coder pudelhund coded what you see here.
Only problem is we haven't heard from pudel in a long while. But this is pretty much a confirmed feature for the A.D.D. mod.

Again, it's most likely because the example textures are a bit too bright. After some dulling down they would fit rather nicely IMO

IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME

Taking the concept of directional placing and applying it to logs. I like.
You have my support.

Colored torches would be cool too.
They would fit rather nicely into some light-based redstone devices.

Thanks bro.
Needed this for a demonstration of how light based redstone devices would function.
The wool there represents the colored glass, from this thread here http://www.minecraft...s-the-original/
The idea is to have light sensors that have the ability to filter certain colors of light by placing colored glass in front of the sensor like so.
Or at least something like that.
