Behold! Vertical redstone powder! No slime necessary!

Seriously, the only reason we don't have vertical wiring is because Notch thought it would be confusing, but with the recent developments in variable directions blocks can face, that's not much of a reason anymore.

Torches have a slight delay to them.

There is no way currently to have instant, compact vertical transmission.

Care to elaborate? I don't understand how this is Overpowered. I just see it as more efficient.

I was talking about the 1 slime ball = 64 sticky dust thing.

If your gonna have something like this, the recipe has to be balanced.

Blueokapi123's recipe would be feasible, though I myself would prefer unsupported redstone wire over just vertical redstone. It would provide more possibilities while giving the same vertical transition that vertical redstone would.

I have an idea to allow glow torches to be placed underwater and above water without glitches. The torch would have 2 data values, one filled with water when placed in contact with water, one that is just a torch when not. That would work, right?

    That might work..

Not 100% sure, gonna have to bring it up with the Pudmiester when he gets back.

This thread is really out of date, we have already decided a LOT of stuff. You can check out our forum here

I will totally get that mod when it comes out.

    ANYWAY:

    1. Notch does not develop minecraft now, jeb does.
    2. The aether is overloaded with unneeded content
    3. The aether is laggy
    4. The aether is buggy
    5. The aether becomes pointless after the bosses are fought.
    6. Mojang needs to focus more on improving the Nether and the End before adding any other dimensions.

You can go to our forum if you want. We are still in pre-alpha though. We have a basic portal system, and the kyther and zenith are coded and work. But we have a lot of other stuff that needs to be done.

Do you really want them to waste their time to make a separate obtainable block for a minor palette change that could be solved by you not being ****ing lazy and doing it yourself in 2 seconds.

Unlike mods, texture packs are an actual supported method of just these kinds of situations in Minecraft. What you're essentially doing here is wasting time for a supported feature that's meant to mend this issue.

It would take like 3 minutes to code this and put this in the game.

It's just a decorative block, they would just add it as a damage value for cobble like with stonebricks/cracked stone bricks/etc.

It's not that hard to add. And it really wouldn't be wasting anyone's time

And I'll say it again, not everyone knows how to make a texture pack. Just because you can, doesn't mean everyone can.
    Quote from Waylon8tor

But that begs the question: How would you get the old cobblestone? If it's only available in creative mode, then some people would still complain.

...having it as a decorative block could work but it should be crafted by 1 new cobble = 1 old cobble

Make it like sandstone and smooth sandstone.

    4 for 4

    Not that hard broham.

The problem with what you describe is that it's completely linear.

You have to go to the nether to get to the end, and then you have to go to the end to get to the aether.

This ruins the feel of minecraft completely. Since minecraft was, and still technically is, a sandbox game, making dimension progression linear in nature would ruin the game.

That's why being able to choose which dimension you start out in, to be able to choose which order you visit the dimensions and fight the bosses, is a much better fit for vanilla minecraft.

It breaks up the stagnant linearity, having to do the same thing over and over every playthrough. The player get's to decide where they go next, not the programmers.

That's what the minecraft is supposed to be about after all.

    Freedom and choice.

Then the nostalgic people would want to get Alpha cobble from stone.

    Would they?

Or would they just be happy that they have their old cobble texture, regardless of how you would obtain it?
    Quote from bmanrules

Herro Jellomob, it's me, but you probably don't remember :P

I don't see why you got so fussed over a texture pack, it won't make a difference to a a vanilla player who has to change his texture pack once to experience vanilla only with the old beta and alpha textures...having it as a decorative block could work but it should be crafted by 1 new cobble = 1 old cobble

Make it like sandstone and smooth sandstone.

    I don't like the linearity.

Why do I have to go through the nether and overworld to get to this dimension?

Why does every dimension idea have to sprout out of the nether?

I did not say that there was a texture pack for that, but that he/she could make one or even modify the default one, keep the alpha texture in another png file and change the default terrain.png file each time that there is a new update. Because not everyone want the old alpha cobblestone texture. It was just a small suggestion. Sorry if I offended someone in any way.

Sorry for my bad english (if it is).

Saying " just make a texture pack for that" is basically the same as "there's a texture pack for that"

Not everyone would know how to do that anyway. You need to think about every possibility before dismissing an idea like this.

It's true that not everyone would want the old cobble texture, and that's why

    Quote from Jellomob

Why don't they just add it as a separate decorative block?

We can keep the post alpha cobble, and the alpha cobble can be a decorative block that can be used for all the same things as normal cobble.

Or just make a texture pack that uses the old textures? I think it's the easiest way.

Some people prefer to play vanilla minecraft.

Just because you would use a texture pack, doesn't mean someone else would want to.

also, it's against the rules to say "There's a texture pack for that"

Just thought I'd let you know ;)

posted a message on The Aether as a permanent update!
    Quote from Cobalt32

I actually once had an idea for a different Aether that was designed with the intent of fitting in with Vanilla Minecraft once. It mostly added some cool new cosmetic materials, new potion ingredients, and a new system for making helpful mobs, like how the Overworld added enchanting and the Nether gave brewing.

That's what we are (trying) to do with the Zenith.

It will add more gameplay experiences and not just sort of be there like the aether.

Also, it isn't so heavily focused on adventuring, nor does it have a bunch of ludicrous extra weapons and stuff. That was the aether's flaw, there was nothing left after all the bosses and stuff.

And the best part about ADD, is that all four of the dimensions, The Overworld, the Zenith (our sky dimension), the Kyther (our water dimension) and the Nether, are treated equally, and you can choose to start out in which ever one you like.

They are all completely survivable in, they all have the necessary items to survive (getting wood in the nether was tricky, but we did it without trees!), and you can access all the other dimensions from each dimension as well.

The linearity of having to start out in the overworld, then rush through to the nether and into the aether no longer exists. That was also a major flaw in the aether mod.

The cluster**** of minibosses is also absent. Instead, we have one boss for each dimension. Each have there own "Boss Dimension" like the Ender Dragon, a specific dimension made exclusively for the boss.

    The Behemoth in the Overworld

Still a WIP model and texture

The blaze serpent in the Nether

Still a WIP model and texture

The snow phoenix in the Zenith

We don't have a model for it yet.

The Kyther's boss is still pending

We even have the resident sky knights

We hope to add quite a bit, since we are still in the pre-alpha stage of the mod. We are hoping to add a new gameplay mechanic (such as brewing) for each new dimension.

The Zenith's has yet to be 100% decided, but it may be some form of alchemy involving catalysts like honey and other materials to initiate a reaction and turn one material into another.

We haven't really worked out the details, but there will most likely be certain materials you can only get via alchemy. Some materials made with alchemy could then be used in brewing, or something else we haven't thought of.

Well that was a lot to explain.

Aether doesn't fit at all in vanilla.

The closest thing you are gonna get to a vanilla sky dimension is the rare floating islands in extreme hills.

Other than that, we could try and get the zenith added in, at least it's more unique and vanilla-y than the aether, but I highly doubt that will happen.
