The problem here is that most users that don't care if Notch is snooping around are kids. Kids have no idea on the problems faced from the "innocent" collection of data from behind the scenes. I don't care what Notch says he is doing it for, there is absolutely no reason that a game should ever be sending behind-the-scenes information back to a developer. It is just as bad as advertisers putting information collecting spyware on a computer.
When you kids grow up, you'll understand why big people don't like this.
He said he would share all of the information with the community.
It's pretty damn innocent if you ask me.
Mojang isn't like other companies. They are quite transparent, and in general, they are nice people.
The height limit is a major issue, and has been a major thorn in my side for while..
But...
Would this work with my water dimension idea? It needs quite a bit of space, and I have been actively searching for a way to make it more of a feasible idea, without causing so much lag.
I probably wouldn't need to bump my thread if it was nearly as sexy as your 'Dimensions thread... Perhaps I need to organize mine more.
My thread is indeed sexy.
The sections of your thread need to be more apparent, Try having a larger amount of space between each section. Center and bold the titles, make them a bit larger too.
Also, your images seem to be screwing up, you might want to use a different image sharing site, like imgur.
And to be honest, Mincraft was pretty boring/bland till Jab became lead dev
If anything, Minecraft doesn't feel like Minecraft anymore, because Minecraft feels like what it should have been all along.
- More diverse biomes
- More diverse mobs
- More user driven content
Jeb has been improving minecraft from the very first day he became Lead Dev, props to him.
I don't understand why everyone is complaining, they are expanding the game to it's full potential.
The reason it feels like a mod, is because mincraft really didn't have much content to begin with. Mods usually add a lot of content yes? Well that's what they are doing now, they are pumping out content at a faster rate than they used to.
When notch was in charge, there were updates once every few months. We had no say in the matter whatsoever.
Jeb, however, is incredibly transparent. He is giving us a look at how he is developing the game BEFORE an update. Allowing the community to suggest ideas/ report bugs BEFORE they become a problem in the next update.
THIS IS GOOD,
WE HAVE MORE OF A SAY IN THE GAME THEN WE EVER HAD
Why the hell are you complaining about?
TL;DR
Minecraft was stale to begin with. Jeb is adding more content. It feels like a mod, because mods generally make the game more diverse, Jeb is doing just that, making the game more diverse.
Minecraft is more user driven that it has ever been because of the snapshot system, along with Mod API coming soon.
It was never any worse than the normal loading for me. Since the chunks are smaller they load faster.
It's all about how many blocks you are loading. Smaller chunks mean more opportunities to avoid loading irrelevant blocks. It allows loading less blocks vertically with smaller distance settings.
Playing on anything less than normal distance is just plain wrong. It ruins the openness of the world.
If Cubic Chunks can make my game not lag with MC on Far, in an humongous open ocean like the one in my thread, then maybe I will consider it a worthwhile way of rendering.
Dude, shut the hell up. Before you start talking about these things, you need to know what you're talking about. Battlefield is so much better than any CoD game. Get your head straight. And again, before you start talking about these things, you need to know what you're talking about
How can the same thing be better than itself?
Battlefield = COD
Honestly, I don't understand why people have these stupid arguments, it's like 2 kids get the exact same present for Christmas, but make up different ways that their present is better, despite it being the exact same thing.
It's ridiculous.
Besides, they both suck balls, so it doesn't matter which one is "better" than the other.
Did you read the post above? It's called "cubic chunks". It lets any modern computer do this. Seriously.
I have seen cubic chunks before, problem is, if there is a vast open area, you could see the chunks being generated, sorta like you can now, but like a 100 times worse.
I doubt this will be added to vanilla MC unfortunately, but this would be an awesome mod. It would certainly be, in the words of Gabe Newell, "worth the weight".
We are prolly going to make it a mod.
But if Jeb wants to add anything from it, he can :wink.gif:
200 years in the future, computers will still not have enough to do something like this.
Ok, maybe they will, but I'm pretty sure that nothing within a reasonable time-frame will become that powerful AND commercially available AND at a reasonable price AND doesn't take up an entire freaking building of space.
I might be over exaggerating a bit. Or maybe I'm not, that's the creepy part.
The crust wont be that big. If the bottom of the crust is 192 above the bottom of the world, and its 10 blocks thick then that still leaves 54 blocks in which to put stuff. The beaches are very similar to that picture you put in the OP for the W.D only with sand instead of green stuff. As for the rivers, why not? Just because the crus is suspended doesn't mean no rivers. I think it would work quite well.
Cucumber
As of right now, we have an extremely limited budget on height. Even at 256, that isn't much to work with, and it will lag on lower end computers.
All I can really think to do is have Optifine be per-packaged with the mod to cut down on the lag. Even then though, any more then 256 might be pushing it.
So I was planning on having the crust be rather thin, so we would have at least 225 to play around with for the ocean.
When people think of names for the water dimension, they shoud at let try to make the name cover the WHOLE dimension. The 'Ky' in Kyther means wave, and the name was suggested before the dimension took shape. Th abyss is a LAYER of the dimension, not the WHOLE dimension. Plaese don't use abyss in the name.
The water dimension is a subterrainian ocean, with a thin jungle crust with many holes. The ocean is very similar to real oceans, it has zones. The sunlit zone, twilight zone, midneight zone, abyss, and treanches.
Try making the name have something in it that means water or ocean. Nothing genaric, like Aquas, the most genaric name possible.
True, I might take "The Abyss" from the OP, It really doesn't fit the current description.
I just think it rude that he didn't answer your question.
maybe there could be different npc's for each dimension
overworld, Testificates (duh)
Water Dimension (maybe Aquos), Merfolk
Nether,???(Blazemen, and the already existing ones are just angry, IDK)
Skyworld, angels
any thoughts
Been thinking about this for a while. Though the nether might not have any inhabitants. They might have been there in the past though, or something, to make it all mysterious and stuff. There could be ruins of past villages and **** like that.

The developers themselves, including Notch AND Jeb, stated that they would never add him to the game. Ever.

We can't make the crust too big, we already have space issues as is (256 blocks tall is all we can work with, unless they better optimize mincraft)
Also, Some of these things don't seem to fit. The "crust" is suspended above the ocean, so I don't think there can be rivers and beaches.
Though I do like palm trees, I have been thinking of making the jungle a tropical one, so that could work.
