I am Jacob from the Minecraft Noob Test. We are looking for some artwork to give the homepage of the MCNT a new feel for the summer rush. We are looking for 4 icon style drawings, all featuring a similar character doing a few different actions. I am looking for an artist, but also somebody who can offer some creative input. Part of it is that some versions use different coding languages. I could go on and on, but long story short it's not as easy like you think it is.
Actually, the different languages used to program the different version of the games is not why they could not be played together. The packets sent over the network to create multiplayer servers are language agnostic. You can write a server that receives these packets in any language to interact with the clients.
