Try buildig a redwood forest 115 blocks tall and expereiment with 3x3,4x4 and 5x5. Use a player detector wire up to a dispenser to shoot creeper eggs down at you. BUild it in superflat so its tall enough.
I'll see what i can do about that, except 115 block high trees in a regular map would just, not work.
A: Fully Support, EXCEPT
B: I think they should be a little wider.
Like, 9 x 9 wide.
And the big ones are 13 x 13.
Just sayin'... Redwoods are HUGE in real life in comparison to a person.
The reason why I support this SO MUCH is because I made a world where I lived in the woods, and kept growing trees off of a huge tree and made a giant tree fort. Lol
Damn, is that Del Norte Titan or something? Anyways I do think they should be wider as well, but i did try several times , once with a 4x4 and another time with a 5x5. Both ended up looking more like Giant Sequoias than Coast Redwoods. But in comparison with real life, the tallest redwood i built ins 58 blocks tall and the tallest tree in real life is the coast redwood Hyperion at 115.55, meters, which translates to 115 blocks. So unless we build them on really low land, it's pretty much impossible to make a 115 block high redwood in minecraft. Because one this wide and minecraft-reasonably tall looks very out of proportion. And lol me too, the reason i made this thread is because i live about 1 hour away from a redwood grove, and i grew up with them all my life, so i would REALLY love to see this in a patch someday. Yes I am a redwood hugger, lol.
No drop creepers are immune from fall damage so they can spawn on redwoods too.
But since redwoods are 40+ blocks tall (the tallest in the picture, the Cubosphere Giant being 58 blocks) they wouldn't spot you even if you're directly under. And if you're gonna say they have an infinite/really high sight distance, that would be overpowered.
Ok, back to the original topic. To make the new biome interesting, a special type of mob, called a drop creeper, could be introduced. When you walk psat a tree at night, a drop creeper drops on you. Functions the same as a normal creeper, except it only spawn on trees to drop on you.
Maybe, but they'd have to drop from a douglas fir because if they dropped from a redwood they'd have no chance of surviving. Also they could be a completely new mob instead of being a prefix mob, because there have been multiple records of creepers spawning on trees and dropping onto players.
Well, here's the new biome as promised. The redwoods obviously stand out, and a few douglas firs can be seen. It's really hard to see but there are ferns and long grass on the ground, as well as a few mushrooms. Note how it doesn't snow even though it is an evergreen forest (every single tree was hand grown with bonemeal, it took a really long time) and i also added a cheap fog effect (render distance). What do you guys think? I'll add the best suggestions into this sample biome.
I agree that fallen trees are a great idea. Perhaps you could have a decayed wood block to make them look aged? It would just be for show though, as it would act like normal wood, well, normal redwood wood.
Perhaps yes, decayed redwood would actually look very good if textured right.
For the new redwood forest biome, maybe add a new type of structure: a fallen tree. They would be in a circular 3x3 shape, and 1-2 would spawn in each redwood forest. They would be fallen redwoods (hollow, but breaching is needed to get inside)and about 20 blocks long, and inside would be a special monster spawner, possibly for silverfish or another new mob. When the spawner is destroyed, it would drop 3 redwood saplings, because you wouldn't be able to get them fron living redwoods. Maybe?
That's a great idea! I'll see if i can add it to the sample forest biome and see what it's like.
Im not asking for air conditioning fuel, engines or rockets. Just guns nukes and artillery. They are all weapons, not heating and cooling etc, there is a difference.
*facepalm* Oh my god. I was using those as examples, E-X-A-M-P-L-E-S, of some things that minecraft doesn't/shouldn't have. Not direct subjects. Your guns and nuclear bombs and artillery are part of those examples. All in all, NOBODY WANTS GUNS, NUKES, ARTILLERY, JETS AND INFINITE TNT BOWS. Thank you for listening. Now if you excuse me, i'd rather not start a flame war on this thread. Please go back to the original topic of redwoods.
I dont understand your point of view, are you saying realism is BAD? would you rather potions or guns. Maybe a compromise, enchanted guns?
Because gypsy, the thing is minecraft ISN'T supposed to be realistic. Have you ever seen floating stone, dirt and wood? have you ever been able to take a tree down by punching it? No, and for the guns, Minecraft is themed more into the past than the present. There's no fuel or engines or heating and air conditioning in minecraft. Or self propelled rockets and thrusters.
These ideas are PVP themed, and therefore minecraft themed. Improving PVP will make multiplayer 1000x better.
No no no no no no no no no no. You don't understand, have you even read my post? What people want improved to PVP is things like better enchantments, more potions, several types of critical hits, types of arrows, etc. Nobody in the community wants 10,000 block radius nukes, thousands of miles per hour jets, m16's and killstreaks. Either you're not fit to be on these forums, or it's just really hard to make you understand basic things and get your mind straight.
Why do you always say that on my threads, all im trying to do is improve minecraft and make itappeal to a wider audiece
Why do you always say that on my threads, all im trying to do is improve minecraft and make itappeal to a wider audiece
I say that (and i'm not the only one) because you always make ideas in your posts overpowered and unappealing to the minecraft community that people have learned not to take your suggestions seriously. Maybe if you took them down a notch, thought them over and made them more minecraft themed (nukes, jets, m16's and killstreaks are not minecraft themed) then people would support them. And by appealing to a wider audience, it's because the people here who play minecraft and are part of its community know what fits into the theme and they know that if things from call of duty and such were implemented the game would be destroyed. And by improving minecraft, you're not. What the community wants is things that are original to minecraft and its general zone in the gaming world, not ideas copy-pasted from games alien to minecraft. I hope this little lesson helped you.

i know right, but for the jungle trees i did read somewhere they're going to be 2x2, but how tall?

not. Same hit points as enderdragon? please tell me this is another one of your trolls, gypsy.
thanks!
