Mar 5, 2012I downloaded it and I was just wondering, is the huge snowy mountain in the banner actually there or is it just a backdrop for the banner? If it is really there could i please have its location? I really want to visit it.Posted in: Maps
Feb 23, 2012I'm in the process of making a huge redwood forest in my single player superflat world with different types of trees, vegetation, geology, etc.Posted in: Suggestions

I like this idea. That one screenshot of the forest at sunset was just beautiful...
I think owls would be an interesting idea for a mob, perhaps a passive one that makes nests high up in the trees and flies around trying to avoid the player for the most part. They could also be more active at night, maybe even becoming aggressive toward the player. They could drop feathers when killed (because, let's face it, gathering a bunch of feathers quickly is no easy task with the recent changes to passive mobs), and perhaps their nests could have a small chance of dropping books (a little joke on the whole owls being wise thing).
If you wanted a mythical/supernatural aggressive forest animal, there's always sasquatches or some kind or werewolf...
I like your owl idea. Some sort of bigfoot-type beast would probably fit nicely. Thanks for the support!

What kind of natural landscape your good at building into (e.g. Mountains, forests, hills, underground):Forest (mainly conifer and redwoods), any area with high levels of vegetation
Why I should choose you over anyone else:*I'm nice, patient and tolerant, and I also have quite a lot of building experience.
Skype or Steam (if so, user):Neither, sorry again
Feb 18, 2012I might completely revamp the biome soon, as i feel it is too monotone.Posted in: Suggestions

The whole time i'm reading this thread one word just keeps popping into my head. That word? Tree-house.

I finally decided that I would keep the redwoods as they are, and are now closed to updating and editing. I will not add any more trees to the biomes, which means they are partially closed to editing (trees only are closed). But the thread is not dead though, so feel free to share your thoughts, ideas and critics. I need as much feedback as possible, to not only edit the biome but also to decide on my next thread ideas.
I closed the poll as well. I have gotten a large enough sample, positive majority.

Looks like a quite interesting tree indeed. I personally think (if ever) you decide to throw douglas firs, eucalyptus and sequoiadendron all with redwoods into the mix, it's gonna get a little packed with huge trees. A mod with all these as well as possibly a few more trees and smaller vegetation would be perfect.
Yes. A modder would be very appreciated, but I don't intend to try to incorporate all these into vanilla, for the reasons you mentioned.

Have you ever thought on bringing back sequoiadendrons?
I've been thinking about it, but it's actually quite hard to come up with a unique design for those. It's very challenging to match the trunk width and the height while keeping it reasonable, get all the leaves and branches in a correct fashion, etc. I'll probably leave the job to someone else. Except...
I had a dream last night about minecraft. It is very vague now, but I do remember being in some sort of forest, and the trees were quite dispersed, about 10 blocks between each. I don't remember what kinds of trees they were. The color was also very monotonous, almost all white. Then I saw myself facing a huge tree. Not a jungle tree, not a redwood nor a douglas fir, but something else. Again it is very vague so I don't remember what it was, but looking at it now it seems to me that it might have been a Eucalyptus Regnans, A.K.A mountain ash. I know little of this tree, but it grows in Tasmania and Australia and grows to be a considerable height, up to 400 feet (not anymore) but do not live long. I'll think on this subject, and tell you what's going on with it as I progress. I will keep updating the redwoods though, first things first.

The rule for mobs in Minecraft is generally irl mobs are passive. Imaginary mobs are the bad ones, such as zombies and creepers.
It may seem like it, but no one has established that rule. Nothing stops the game from having fantastic passive mobs and realistic hostile/neutral mobs.

In order to keep the trees from being overpowered, maybe they could only have a chance of spawning to be 50+ blocks tall. Some very low chance (like 1 in 500). Otherwise, they'll spawn to be like normal pines. Perhaps Taiga pines could be retextured, and there could be two different conifer biomes- Taiga and Temperate.
Fantastic idea Jatizo.
Thank for the support and feedback! What I was thinking about the biomes though, was to make the conifer needles in the temperate forest a lighter green. Although I don't think the redwoods should grow to be like normal pines, because if you've ever looked at pictures or even seen them in real life, they're huge. The only recorded redwoods to be at least 20 feet tall (about the height of the average pines) are albino redwoods, a parasite redwood lacking in chlorophyl that survives by "sharing" the roots of a healthy redwood. Also notice in the landscape picture of the new biome, that there are only 4 redwoods. This shows that they would spawn very rarely (almost exclusively in larger versions of the biomes) but not grow small, making up for their rarity. Otherwise I like your ideas.
