I play on an awesome mostly-vanilla server, and am looking specifically for people to join this community we're trying to build. Currently I've been building cities, starting with nothing and then building upwards to a point of extreme efficiency. The downside to this playstyle is that it often gets boring. To quell that, we (that is, my two friends and I) have taken up the habit of abandoning a city once that process is complete, traveling to a new location, and starting once more!
As we've done this a handful of times and seen the ups and downs, we've sort of refined this process and have found that it would be much more fun to do with a few more people. We're not looking to create some massive enclave or army; just adding a few more people to live amongst. We generally share a central storage location, where we communally store things like food and building materials and wealth (though you are, of course, free to keep your own). We have taken up the habit of electing a "leader" for a settlement, often done in rotation, and allowing that person to choose the location of a settlement, the build theme, and any rules. One example was a sky-city we built, wherein we decided that eating steak made the game too easy - so we went vegetarian. Settling on a floating island above an ocean also meant we had to get creative as far as finding methods of livestock production and farming, which ended up being tons of fun.
We often skype while we play, though you're not required to do so. We invent fun little games (we built a rock-paper-scissors machine in our first settlement) and find ourselves spending equal amounts of time skilling, building, and playing around. The server we're on has plugins like McMMO, Towny, Lockette, and other not-necessarily-game-changing plugins.
We hope you'll consider joining us! If you're interested, you can reply here or send a PM to me, and I can direct you to the server's website. Thanks for taking the time to read!
I don't see the point in sealing books you can still edit.
As stated in my original post, it has a massively useful function for vanilla SMP players who want to run shops wherein you use an editable book for order placement.
I've been on many a server where this has been commonplace, and I've seen plenty of these books erased by griefers. Sure it doesn't make sense in real-world context with sealing something that can be opened and written in again, but the other hand to look at is that in the real world, signing a book doesn't prevent people from editing the contents.
Personally, I think the book-sealing idea is great! If you seal a book that has yet to be signed, you know whoever opened or edited that book last.
Particularly useful for vanilla servers wherein players make shops. I've seen griefers go into shops and simply delete all the text from a book, then replace it. Having tons of wax on hand to re-seal it after use is a small price to pay to detect griefers on a vanilla server.
Also it adds a gift-like sentiment to books given to people. You get to break the seal.
The alternative is using seal-breaking as a method of autographing signed books by original authors. Say you have a copy of a very famous book on your server (the handbook/server guide, for instance) and you want a signed copy.
Simply seal it, and ask the original author to break it. Now you can show off your item as having been in the hands of the original author.
While I find it annoying that you refer to it as "budder," you have potential in short video making and you should be proud of your small creation.
Always strive to better yourself.
There's a guy on our server whose name is just a series of numbers beginning with 192.
I can't recall them (he goes by 19) and so I can't post the full thing.
My minecraft IGN is Synray, it's from an RP I wrote with some friends almost six years ago.

Well that's sort of disappointing. I'd like to see the ability to sign books regardless of whether they're signed or not.
A new texture for sealed books would make for a pretty cool addition as well.

Does anyone know somebody who could potentially turn this into a mod?

In fairness, fireworks were also a Chinese invention.
Regardless, no support.

They're SO op, it's ridiculous.

Definitely like the wax-seal on books.
Very balanced, imo.
Support.

Good luck, I'm interested to see what happens.
