Things i would bring: I would be a good spy/ warrior for pvp, im also a good miner
If you're gonna abuse game mechanics, which is more or less cheating, then just play on peaceful and stop switching between difficulties like it makes the game harder.
This is not abusing the game mechanics. Personally i think abusing the game mechanics would be like using a bug and exploiting it, like the "ladder holds up water" trick to make a mob trap.

I would only like this if it were a seperate game mode. I didn;t buy this game because its realistic, i bought it because it's like free build with mobs.
I find this in the same day as I saw the Echo Base thread...
And my girlfriend who has yet to see Star Wars is on her way over...
ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME SOMETHING, UNIVERSE?
Seriously though, looking forward to seeing this through. Good start!
Make clean stone take a long time to mine, specifically with stone picks (30 seconds, estimate), noticeably with iron picks(10 seconds, estimate) and only a slight increase in difficulty with diamond picks(1 second estimate, or just keep it like it is).
No. Just no. that means every block of stone would take DOUBLE the amount of time it takes to mine obsidian right now. This doesn't discourage mining. It makes mining kinda stupid, so that to get more minerals the only thing you can do is go into caves. Did the cave run out of minerals? Go walk 10 minutes away and mine another cave, and walk 10 minutes back.

2) Expand the frequency and depth of caves, especially those that originate from the surface.
I like this idea, however. i hate finding a cave entrance, only to see it suddenly dead end.

1)Mine shafting would take too long, and be too boring to do (even though it already is really).
This would cause the game to be like the new patches for World of Warcraft. It takes choice away from the player. When making a video game:
Player + Choice= fun game
Player - choice= Boring game
Besides, the best way to describe minecraft is "Dig into the ground and get resources to build stuff"
I mean come on, this isn't ExploreCraft, its MINEcraft.
4b) would be cool, i really like this idea!
The hidden passages in 5) would be cool!
All in all, you should play minecraft however YOU want to play it. If notch implemented all this, you'd have to play as a nomad. Personally, i like to build a base, a mining shaft, farm, etc. and expand on them. So, instead of having several small outposts, I have a constantly expanding fortress!
*starts new game* *survives two nights in makeshift shelter and walks outside during the day* "huh, haven't seen any creepers ye-" BOOOOOM "Jeez, that was close, i better get back insi-" BOOOOOM
Oooo maybe a fossil block? if they ever add weather you could set it on obsidian outside while its raining, it will get hit by lightning and come to life BTW, FIRST POST!

Just my 2 cents.
