What are you expecting Notch to do about the problems that are impeding your enjoyment of Minecon? Are you expecting him to somehow change the playerbase of Minecraft so you're not surrounded by whiny 8-year-olds or wave his magic wand so plane tickets and hotel rooms are magically less expensive? The level of entitlement found on these forums is astounding.
I agree, Minecraft is unexpectedly scary. I think it's the uncanny valley effect of the block monsters and the fact that they have no expressions combined with the high stakes of finding yourself in a mine with your inventory loaded with valuable stuff from your mining efforts, and that death means the loss of all your hard work.
I feel for you. With the state of the American economy I really can't blame you either. I remember before I turned 18 and was able to get a job and a credit card, my parents had such an enormous aversion to online shopping/banking of any kind there was absolutely NO WAY for me to purchase things online. u___u Thankfully now that I have a credit card of my own, that isn't a problem.
Minecraft is a relatively cheap game though, and compared to the $60 linear games for the PS3 that have a tendency to get stale waaay quicker than Minecraft, it is a cheap game that really gives you your money's worth, so I would strongly encourage anyone that is capable of paying for Minecraft to do so...
Hey so I have an idea, why don't we assume other people know what they're doing when it comes to their own relationships, instead of pretending we know what's ideal for every couple in every situation ever?
If she's a Minecraft dork, this has the potential to be really cute. If she's not, you do take a risk alienating her. You know your girlfriend best. I might suggest using a LOT of flowers and placing them on/around the words built out of obsidian, or using the flowers as confetti somehow.
I don't really see the problem with the world generator.
Notch made the Generator more realistic so no more Giant floating mountains when you don't use seeds which screw with the generator.
Apparently the minecraft community is afraid to walk about 4 minutes to get to another biome and who would want to live in a desert with no trees?
Because God forbid you have to explore in Minecraft.
Because people are like sheep. They follow anything that looks cool. If you were to make something that is cool then other people would try and copy it.
Isn't it great to be better than all those sheep, Darth_Sidius?
I know the seed 666 was quite flat in 1.8, not sure about 1.9.5...mind giving it a go? I don't use the pre-releases.
Sure.
It spawned me near a big ol' swamp and some nice plains. I found a nice big flat space that should be suitable for my needs, plus it spawned lots of passive mobs for me to domesticate :biggrin.gif: Thanks!
Also, the mountainous structures in this seed mentioned by the poster above are REALLY COOL. Complete with floating islands!
I'm on a quest for a flat seed in 1.9.5. Apparently seeds spawn different worlds in different versions of the game, so despite a bit of a search on the forums, I have yet to find a nice, flat seed for the new pre-release. Specifically I'm looking for a nice flat plains with little water and fewer trees so I have lots of room for the stuff I wanna do which will require some flat space, like building a cottage, a quarry, and some modest farms.
I've spawned about a dozen worlds so far on my quest, and although none of them have fit my criteria, some of them have been pretty cool, so rather than letting them go to waste I decided to share them here. :smile.gif:

This spawned me on top of a flat hill with a big water-filled swampland on one side and a desert on the other, with some pretty cool mountainous structures off in the distance, complete with a small floating island. Simply put, this seed is epic!!

Spawns you close to a village in the desert.
