Most of the fanbase has moved from the people who could build hours on end to the simpletons that just like killing things and blowing stuff up. I really miss when notch would have secret friday updates and there would be new building blocks and items made for building.

In the game, you will find friendly tall green creatures called Creepers. The absolute first thing you should do is locate one, go up to it, and give it a hug.
Yeah, I agree. This goes for many many other things than Minecraft. Things are generally better if creators are allowed to follow their own visions and create works with depth and artistic unity rather than listening to demands of the unwashed masses.

Also, don't act like you don't have the option to play the game the way you like it or the way you want to. There are older versions available, there is the option not to use the new features. You just like to whine about it.
I play vanilla. I love my custom texture packs, though. I don't plan to use any mods until I 1. I've squeezed all of the enjoyment out of the vanilla game that I can (and considering I've yet to even get to the Nether yet and have a lot of building projects planned, that won't be a while) and 2. some cool mods are updated for 1.0.0.
That's what I like about the official release, is that the modding community probably, hopefully won't have to continually keep updating for completely new versions...

I use iron for mining because it's a little faster and waiting the extra 1 second for stone pickaxes to mine through **** annoys me. It's just one of those things.
