posted a message on Gravel Becomes Cobblestone When Smelted
Gravel already has a use: It's the only block which can give you Flints AND it is affected by gravity unlike many other blocks.

On top of that, I believe there's enough Cobblestone in MineCraft already without it having to be made by hand first. Cobblestone is stupendously abundant and it's a renewable resource because Stone can be created within the landscape by allowing stream-offs of Lava to come in contact with Water.

I don't like the idea - One good dig in the regular world should give you all the stone you need to build something very viable in the Nether.

posted a message on Ariadne's Thread
    Prepare for my judgement:

I agree with the idea for a Rope item. I'm not sure if it should be used to chain down mobs or trail behind you as long as you have it on you while venturing.

Thing is, venturing out into a cave is challenging and making a long enough rope is a challenge an sich. Nonetheless, if ropes can be picked up again and used infinitely, the trailback use is a little overpowered to be in the vanilla version, but pretty darn handy anyway.

Binding mobs has become a little obsolete because mobs rarely despawn (or spawn) anymore. I have caught two sheep in a pen of which I'm sure they'll be there when I come back from venturing 100s of chunks away.

I'd like to use Rope for attaching it to the underside of any other block, or even the underside of other Rope. That would be decorative and any other blocks attached to the underside of Rope get gravity like Sand or Gravel. Plus, perhaps you could even hang the upcoming Lanterns on them. Just a few suggestions there.

posted a message on I still want Furniture
I agree with furniture. Am I the only one who feels ridiculous wanting to have more luxurious and/or useless furniture in my living quarters?

    Quote from TehEmoHunter

Well what of an ice box? If you get ice shards from breaking ice, it can be used to keep food cold. Doesn't have to be an electric fridge.

You know you can get Snow from shoveling it from snowed-over blocks, right? You can even make Snow Blocks from snow. Combine that somehow with a Chest and you've got yourself a food cooling box... Thing. Yeah. Which you can (obviously) stack on top of eachother to make a fridge-looking thing.

Seriously, this isn't a bad idea. Someone should make a mod of this.

I'd even want to go as far as suggesting more space reservations for more paintings. And some kind of a decent-looking trashcan for all that Rotten Meat I don't want.

I don't want to get ahead of things here, but how about if you don't put meatstuffs in a cooler box, it turns into Rotten Meat, and if you don't put Wheat, Melons, Pumpkins, etc in a cooling box, it turns into Compost. Which could replace Bone Meal's function as fertiliser.

If you like my suggestions, give me a rep. Right there on the lower right of this post, buddy.

Maybe they should add a function to the Compass, like...

When you right click using a compass, it sets to the point where you are at that moment.

posted a message on More reason to look for Dungeons
Pretty good stuff for a few mods. The TENTACLE is gameplay-based not a bad idea, but I think it should deplete the hunger bar and do a little direct damage to yourself to be balanced.

About those potions, here's a thread that's discussing the creation of potions for direct healing. Maybe you can add your two cents there somewhere?

    posted a message on SKILLCRAFT
It might be a far fetch, but I smell some similarities with some other RPG-like games, but it still relies on skill of the player and the acquired "Experience" element freshly implemented into the game.

I would like some kind of skill tree that allows the player to infinitely increase the usefulness of their skills as they level, or at least let every gained level add some kind of a bonus after you complete your tree.

    P.S.:
I want to suggest clicking on the picture in my signature. It leads to a thread about a mod that is in the making about the Monster Hunter games.
Why do I suggest this, you ask? The Monster Hunter games rely heavily on the skill of the player to best overly powerful beasts - Because ask yourself, would you really need any of those skills without worthy enemies?

posted a message on more uses for gold?
Take a look at this thread for suggestions about more redstone equipment and devices.

Personally I think using Gold is not a bad idea for some devices, because gold is a fairly hard to get material at times and some devices could be purely for luxury and ease of use. It adds a dimension to Gold's usefulness in the redstone department.

P.S.: Just slapping this in there, but while we're at it, Ender Pearls don't have a use yet either. Maybe combining Gold and Ender Pearls could do something special?

    Please, think before you respond.

Starting a personal flame war against me isn't productive either, mr. professional videogame designer.

As long as you're not directly involved with the creation of the mod or game, you have barely any influence. At all.
You just posted a whole seminar about the usage of potions while the chance of implementing them is extremely low. Think before you respond.

Nonetheless, potions would make for a good thing in Minecraft, but with most of the ideas here I think they're pretty darn overpowered - Actually, the effects of some potions have nothing at all to do with healing as they were supposed to have.

Part of good game engineering is testing. I say someone just slaps a mod together with healing potions exactly like Vechs suggested, play-test it, and THEN start complaining about useless it all is.

If you like the idea of boss monsters, you're gonna love the Monster Hunter mod that's going to be developed shortly. It's gonna include multiple boss monsters and matching items so it just might be what you're looking for in Minecraft. Click the picture in my signature for more info.

(I will refer to this next paragraph for most potions, so remember this if anything. I will refer to it as "Scales".)

    Now, talking specifically...

... let me know. Please also leave your own suggestions.

Click to see my response on spiritx13.

Keep it simple and have the first tier of potions be part of the next tier, and so on. It's not rocket science.

But it's especially nonsensical trying to determine in detail what crafting recipes are good for items that don't exist. Actually, the people making mods or writing the actual code are going to deviate from whatever you suggest just because everyone thinks they're total geniuses and wants to do it their own way.

posted a message on Make Redstone Extensions
I have some totally random seeming suggestions I made in another thread that never made it past "Boo, your ideas suck and will ruin everything."

    1. Heat-based generator: Put over a lit Furnace, a fire or Lava for it to activate redstone currents.
    2. Solar panel: Generates redstone current when exposed to a certain level of (sun)light.
    3. Redstone torch that stays attached to a block that is moved: Obvious suggestion is obvious.
    4. 4-way double-sided redstone repeater: Derp.
    5. Redstone activated light that actually lights up things as opposed to RS torches.
    6. Block that catches on fire when being given a redstone signal.
    7. Hydro generator: Doesn't stop water or lava currents, but only generates a redstone signal when a flowing water current is within the Hydro gen's block.
    8. Sticky piston that pulls other blocks with it when it is pulled in the same direction.

That's my two cents, spend it however you like.

posted a message on Stained Glass
I was just checking on my thread and was made aware in a reaction that Vixolus1 already made a thread about this topic.

I have to admit that I couldn't be arsed to check the existing threads because I was convinced it was a stroke of genius the moment I thought up of it.

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/634293-dyed-glass-panels/page__p__8326566#entry8326566

Read the first post and you'll catch my initial idea's drift - They've proven to have the coding for making transparant blocks which apply themselves to surrounding blocks. Making semi-transparant blocks with a colored hue could make ANY type of material a different color instead of specifically making 10 colors for every material.

Yes, I know how much Mojang loves saving digital space.

I am Jaedumuth and I approve of this thread's topic, but only for as far as it agrees with my thread. :cool.gif:

posted a message on Official 1.8 Bug Thread!
    Version of Minecraft:
    Version 1.8.1

    SSP or SMP:
    Creative Multiplayer

Your Computer Specs and Operating System:
Above average specs (don't know details), running on Windows 7

    Can you repeat this bug:
    Yes

What issues does the bug Cause:
Repeatable redstone machinery stops functioning after 7 uses.

Specific conditions it occurs in if applicable:
Only in Creative Multiplayer mode, redstone torches burn out after 7 times of being relit.
After that happens, replacing the redstone torch on the same location will set it as being on, but when it is turned off once it is also burnt out and cannot be relit.

posted a message on Dyed Glass Panels
I was just thinking in my humble little shack, sheep having become nearly a beast of myth in my world. I caught two sheep in a pen next to my building, they have been there for at least 10 days on end and no wool was regrown. Getting wool has been such an ordeal that I found myself with a giant excess of dyes.

Then it hit me. Dyed Glass Panes. Not to function like regular panes in between blocks in gaps, but to be placed upon blocks like Paintings or Signs.

These semi-transparant Dyed Glass Panes can be any of the existant colors and once placed over any material, it changes the viewing color to that of the Dyed Pane while retaining the texture and block characteristics of the object underneath.

    Functionality:
    1. Paintings and Signs and the like cannot be placed on blocks which have Dyed Glass Panes on them. The weight of this issue is low because Paintings and Signs are meant to obstruct the view from the block underneath it anyway, making the color useless.
    2. Torches and Redstone Torches could not be placed on blocks with Dyed Glass Panes, so lighting and/or redstone systems might have to be altered when using Dyed Glass Panes.
    3. Vines cannot grow on Dyed Glass Panes, making them double as an effective anti-vine block coating for your structures if you want to prevent vine growth.

Hit me with some posts if you like, anything will do. I'm expecting to be flamed.

posted a message on Suggestions for Monster Hunter Texture pack
I'm making my texture pack in preparation for Orni's upcoming Monster Hunter mod - Click the picture in my signature to read more. If you are a fellow Monster Hunter, you are a friend of mine! Haha!

I'm expecting they'll be coding a lot of extra items and I'm hoping for this texture pack to support the Mod's atmosphere.

Right now I'm looking into Matonk's textures to see what his take on it was (but seeing as my texture pack will be only 16x16 it's a little beyond comparison quality wise). It'll be interesting to get a fitting Monster Hunter design into the Minecraft world.
