If you happen to have the old launcher, you could create a .bat file to force the game to use an alternate folder.

Just have the .bat file contain something like this:

    set APPDATA=%CD%
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -cp "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Desktop\MineCraft\Minecraft.jar" net.minecraft.LauncherFrame

Thanks, I used to have a system similar to that. I would prefer to use the new launcher if possible though, I have a few mod configurations and I can't imagine the fix being too difficult.

No, I won't be doing that. The launcher has been out for months, and this is the first time this is coming up. It's obviously not something most players are using or encountering, and is outside the scope of what I normally handle.

Damn, that's a shame. The issue has been around on the tracker for about 6 months, I assume the reason most people don't have issues is because they use managers or launchers other than the default Minecraft one.

I'm going to look about getting it comissioned, I'll post here if I get a fix.

FC will probably fix it for us as he's staying at 1.5.2, and it's a rather serious bug for those of us who have multiple save folders to prevent getting confused

That would be fantastic if he did, though I would request it be released standalone as well since if the work is done, there's no harm in making it more widely available.

Just had a reply from Dinnerbone, it's a bug in 1.5.2 and not the launcher or wrapper that's causing it, so they won't since it would require a new version. Obviously since new versions work, it's technically fixed.

    https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCL-2568

I wonder how difficult of a mod a fix for this would be, I can't imagine it being particularly hard. Is there any way to commission a mod from someone?

do a nuke of the version (the jar and JSON), reinstall, and don't use any "Mod Managers" as we have very comprehensive install guides scattered across the sargunster.com wiki and forums and BTW doesn't really like mod managers too much

I haven't been using any mod managers, that's the point. The install has been as clean as it could possibly be. I've nuked the json and the actual version multiple times. Regardless of whether or not I copy the core btw files into the jar or if I use a proper json setup to add them as a library, the game works perfectly but refuses to launch in an alternate directory.

It's literally a case of if I swap out the 1.5.2 jar for a modded btw jar without changing anything else, it doesn't launch in the alternate directory. It's an issue explicitly related to the mod itsself. The mod itsself works in every other aspect. If you check my original post on the other page, you can see the json setup that I had for yourself.

The Jar I was using was a vanilla 1.5.2 with META-INF removed, and the library being loaded was a jar of all the btw files. That was being loaded last, so it was identical to a manually overwritten jar. As I said, I have this issue regardless of my installation method. It seems to dislike the launch directory argument.

EDIT: Turns out after a bit more testing that Vanilla 1.5.2 does it as well. Lovely...

try doing the "nuke" solution, recreate the entire launcher profile and try that (you don't have to delete the custom version, just the profile)

Just tried that, didn't work either. I don't think it's an issue with the profile, if I switch to vanilla 1.5.2 on the same profile then it launches in the correct directory. It's only when I'm using the BTW version that it doesn't work.

it occasionally makes you recreate the gamedir variable (deselect, run game, reselect, run game again), same thing happens to me all the time. oh, and the JSON only tells the launcher what to do when running that version, it doesn't matter for this

Thanks, but that didn't work. If I set the profile to use vanilla 1.5.2 then it launches it in the correct directory, but if I use my btw json then it launches in default .minecraft. The reason I linked that was I was wondering if my method of including the btw classes was causing the problem.

    It's extremely annoying. =[

Has anyone managed to get this working with the Launcher's "Game Directory" feature?

I've got a json set up to load the mod as a library with the 1.5 wrapper, and while the game works perfectly it doesn't seem to want to launch into a separate folder. This is extremely annoying considering the 10 different setups I've got, and the fact that I don't want conflicting files between different versions in the main .minecraft folder.

This issue is the same regardless of whether or not I use a modified jar or a special json.

    Here is the json I'm using;

posted a message on Launcher Change - Unused Mods Being Deleted
I'm extremely annoyed right now, my large archive of older mod versions has just been deleted.

Essentially, there is a new change where if a mod isn't called in an active version.json, it is deleted. Considering I have a lot of older version.jsons that I have stored in a different folder to improve load times (So as to not load ~200 different configurations on starting the launcher,) I've just had around 230 core mods deleted.

Thankfully I had a backup from April Fool's Day, but that was pure luck.

Be wary of core mod installations such as Optifine and Forge, if the profile isn't available then it will be deleted. I've personally been doing a lot of testing for Minecrift, and my extremely large version archive was nearly entirely destroyed.

Setting the mods to Read Only doesn't work either, as the launcher simply whines about it and doesn't launch the game.

I am extremely annoyed by this change, and hopefully this helps someone catch something before they lose their mods.

posted a message on [32x][1.0.0] Jadoku - Merged with Tydoku for the definitive Doku's RPG Pack![v3][22/11/11]
For anyone who cares, I've ported it to 1.7 format for personal use, and tidied up a couple of the texutres. I figured it might be useful for one or two people after having a couple of PMs, so why not, here it is.

    https://dl.dropboxus...ku Variants.zip

It's got some huge gaps in it, but it's usable in it's current state. Inside the zip are a load of other zips. These are the base pack, and "mods". The mods include no-biome shading, original textures, flowery trees etc. To use it, just activate both at once and nake sure the "mod" is above Jadoku.zip for 1.0/1.1, you need to have Jadoku, Non biome mod, and 1.0/1.1 enabled for it to work, I've tried to explain what they require in the descriptions.

posted a message on Question regarding Tweak Classes & Version Modding
After messing around with OptiFine and Forge, I've noticed something. Both of them use a tweak class, and the 1.8 launch wrapper. I'm assuming that because of this, they are able to modify a minecraft.jar that still has it's META-INF. I was able to add extra mods on top of OF in the json as libraries if I had OF's tweak class, so I'm assuming that something in OF's tweak gets rid of the META-INF on launch. However, if I didn't have the tweak class specified, it wouldn't launch at all.

My main question - Is there a raw tweak class that simply gets rid of META-INF and launches the game like normal?

I'm hoping to be able to load it and launcherwrapper 1.8, change the main class and tweak class to launcherwrapper and it, essentially giving me a raw json that allows me to add jar mods without having to use my workaround. (My current workaround is to use an empty jar in versions, and load a modified jar without META-INF as a library)

If anyone could give me a hand with this, I'd massively appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Most of them are from MCNostalgia. I just like them to be jars, as it's more convenient to dig in them like that. :)
Some of them, however, are the ones people sent me, like 02.27 and 04.15 Infdev. (And now also 06.27 Infdev, thanks :) )
Some are googled, like 04.20 Infdev.

There is main class property in version jsons. The old main class is net.minecraft.client.Minecraft. It should work for Alpha and later, as for Infdev and Indev, it varies from version to version, and I don't know if it's possible to run Classic and Survival Test like that at all.
I personally launched Survival Test and 0.013a_03 like this: Started Classic on minecraft.net, closed it, replaced jar in tmp files, undid closed tab. :)

So, unless there will be problems with authentication, it should work well. However, I didn't try that, just guessing.

    Haha, no problem!
I'll give MCN a dig then I guess, is there any chance of the diffs of the ones you've been sent/found? I like having them in jars too, but rules are rules and I'd rather not get banned =p

With old versions in the launcher it will become more expansive, but I didn't get to it yet.

Damn, that's pretty impressive. I was looking to build one now that it's possible to make profiles for some of the older ones and snapshots in the new launcher, but I have no idea where to start aside from the stuff available on assets. Is there any chance of a full set of diffs of those? =]

Minecart skin? This is Alpha 1.0.4 player skin. Looked again, I guess I read your message wrong, sorry. Sadly, I don't have 1.0.3. The closest ones are 1.0.4 and 18/06 Infdev.

I'm almost 100% sure that this was never the official skin. It's never not been steve, only change to him was his beard at one point - the Dwarf skin was made by a guy called Kyn if I remember correctly.

Also theres the patch, I believe I've done it correctly.

EDIT: Maybe not, I think I did it backwards lol. This should work - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5233348/Other Files/Files to Share/minecraft-2010.06.27-2

Out of curiosity, how expansive is your collection at present?

I was just going to post that texture, because in mail notification edits are not visible...

As for Alpha 1.0.4 skin, here is it:

Also Infdev with that Minecart texture is available in MCNostalgia. Can you tell me the modification date classes inside the jar have?
If it's June 18, 2010, that is not really insane. :)
What IS insane, are February 27–April 15 Infdev versions. I have these 2, but everything between them is especially insane.

Aaah, it's not that insane, what was was the fact I had it nestled in some 30 folders and I still managed to find it.
Sadly, it's a 27/06 build - the internal icon isn't even the old minecart one.
It's sad because I personally played every single indev and infdev build back then, it obviously never occured to me to keep the old versions. (I still have all of my old maps though =p)

Also, the patch note that I quoted said mineCART skin, implying it was changed for 1.0.3 and reverted for 1.0.4. That looks like the brown version of the old Dwarf skin that got associated with Simon.

Also, doing a quick search, the only interesting build I have is one with the classes dated 10/10/2009.
