Why are you interested in joining this server? I've been approached in the past to join this server. Circumstances allow me to do so now when it didn't fit for me before. I like the longevity of the group as well as the people that I met in my brief time before. The fact that you are resetting for 1.18 is a HUGE plus for me, personally to join. I like long seasons but I also value the occasional reset when a big update comes. There's something special about starting a fresh world again.

Strengths (redstone, building, etc): I'm not sure I'm particularly "good" at any one thing. I like to dabble into many. Prior to this beautiful update, I liked terraforming as well. Personally I enjoy functional builds but have been challenging myself to make nicer looking builds as well, focusing maybe more on the holistic side rather than specific areas.

How many other servers have you been on and for how long? Will this be your primary server? I have been on the one that prevented me from joining this one before as you might recall. The group unfortunately ended and I went back to a long time server group for a season as well. KingCraft will be my primary SMP community. If I do anything else, it'll be a singleplayer Let's Play, as I'm interested to get back to making YouTube videos.

What other games do you enjoy playing? EVE Online, Football Manager, and Euro Truck Simulator <-- Don't judge me. I like to drive. :D

Tell us a bit about yourself. Hobbies, interests, etc. The more we know, the more information we have to base that decision off of.
So, I do video editing for my work. I enjoy creating content as well so I spend a lot of time doing that. I have a podcast that I've been running in the EVE Online community, which keeps my skills up-to-date in sound editing and voiceover work. I've been thinking seriously to get back into making YouTube videos and try to make some opportunities happen there. Joining KingCraft could potentially help with that in terms of honing my skills in minecraft again after a bit of a break.

    Hello

Your server caught my eye but would have a few questions, if I may? I've really had varying levels of success finding the right server. When I have, they closed down (or have farm killing plugins), so I hope you don't mind my questions

    • What happened to the previous server that ran for 6 years?
    • What is your "server theme" for this season?
    • Does the server have world map restrictions? Ex. expanding the map 5000 blocks every week or through some other incentive-based system?
    • Is there a requirement or does the the community have to agree to build closer together or allow freedom to build wherever?
    • Does the server have specific districts for specific purposes? ex, shopping, mini games, community, etc?
    • Are your anti-grief tools requiring the use of Spigot or Paper? I'm all for anti-grief, just not for the plugins that massively affect farms' outputs
    • Is the group against having content creators in it (streamers and/YouTubers)?

Thank you ahead of time for considering my questions :)

    In Game Name: Jadecougar
    Age: 43
    Country: Finland
Are you familiar with Discord? Yes, very.
What is your Discord ID?: Jadecougar#4377 <-- I'd sure value a conversation if there are any extra questions.
How did you hear about The Sanctuary SMP community?:I've had a long history with the Sanctuary after having been a member from the latter end of season 2 to season 5 (iirc), serving some of that time as an admin. Some of my best minecraft moments were with this group. Some of my best online friends came from this group. We have had amazing moments on this server and looking back at what creations were able to be made either by myself or with the build group that was developed over time, they were stunning and so much fun! There was a short period, however, where some of my darker days were from the "old days" when the Sanctuary was working to expand and moving into a different direction (a better one in the end to be fair). I bumped heads with a couple of the admins during a time in my life where I was going through some tough moments related to work and family. I tend to be very committed and take things very seriously when I'm responsible for something (which I was as an admin) and the combination made for a few unfortunate disagreements that led me to decide to leave. This was an unfortunate mistake in the end, even though short term that was necessary for me personally to get my bearings. I have regrets to this day for those moments and I write that publicly here to express humility and sincerity about it to those involved.

What is your favorite/preferred base/building style? I think my favourite base was one made during the aquatic update with a couple of friends. We developed a story where villagers had been travelling by ship and a storm caused them to crash ashore. The villagers made a new home in a massive cave system that we terraformed. Below it was a hidden, gigantic tropical pool that was our team's "hub" for getting place to place. That was a HUGE build with many, many parts to it. Another one was on the Sanctuary server as well where we built several large pyramids in a jungle. Amazing builds. Lots of work that we still needed to do there but so much fun! As for style of building....nowadays, I've been paying more attention to the details of my builds, trying to improve from what used to be more functional builds. I don't really have a preferred style per-say but I do like the medieval/fantasy style of builds and builds using interesting shapes. I also like builds that lean towards a narrative of some kind, where the builds tell a story. I find those the most interesting and inspiring.

What aspect of vanilla gameplay draws you towards SMP? Vanilla. It's the base game that stays true to its original format. It's boring for some but I find it authentic and refreshing. The few plugins that this group uses are more QOL issues and it doesn't take away from the vanilla experience. I appreciate and value that. Also, I should mention that I enjoy building in a place where other people are active and committed to the long game. This is hard to find in the SMP world. SMP's are fun because of the economy and community events (when the server stays active of course) but the big thing I like is when you can find a group of people that are positive towards other players, want to help, and can foster a positive playing experience for every single person that plays. When these function well, SMPs can be the the end game experience in terms of enjoyment. Vanilla servers don't offer gimmicks or fads...just "the real deal" :D

Do you have any experience with Minecraft communities? I have extensive experience with minecraft communities, belonging to many since 2010. Some of those have been building my own groups in the past. Many of those experiences have been with the Sanctuary. I joined a server some time ago that had an interesting vision but it has all but died, leaving a largely dead server with just four people. This has been a massive disappointment to me after putting a lot of time in making YouTube videos only to find yet another server that closed prior to that as well when the owner lost interest. I'm quite tired of communities that promise something and aren't willing to put the work in to make it happen. When the owner gives up, the server dies. It's pretty much that simple. The Sanctuary is calling me home....or so I feel. It's the one place that I could consistently in the past call home so I feel my community experience is leading me back to where I was welcome before and where I could potentially use my skills to help people again like I did before.

Outside of Minecraft, what kinds of activities/hobbies do you enjoy? I love making videos as that's my hobby and profession currently. I've started to make minecraft videos as well, which has helped me hone my skills even more. Talking (coherently) and playing at the same time is hard, man!:lol: I enjoy reading, watching movies, and playing limited amounts of other games. I'm really drawn in towards DCS world as I'm a fighter plane enthusiast but my PC currently isn't powerful enough for that just yet. :P

If there's any other questions, I'm happy to answer them. Thank you for your time. :)

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I'm Canadian, but live in Finland. I'm an entrepreneur and a Dad of five kids. Yes, five. :D I like photography and videography, which has become a new hobby and part of my job. I've recently started to make minecraft videos, which is a LOT harder than doing regular video movies for me, so that's kept me busy. I'm a web developer and video creator/editor so I spend unhealthy amounts of time melding into my chair at the computer. hehe. In the end, I'm just a regular dude looking for a place that I can be a part of to facilitate the improvement of my minecraft experiences and try to raise my profile a little more to help me achieve some personal goals.

Feel free to ask any questions further. :)

    What is your best build:

Probably a massive netherhub/nether shopping mall build. We had built up a huge central nether portal right outside a separate shopping hall in the nether that looked similar to the colleseum in Rome but had distinct shopping stalls for people to populate. The hub consisted of wings that went in each of the four directions leading to four large round hubs with tunnels off to directions of peoples' bases and farms. It was an epic build and the largest project that I've done in minecraft for people due to the sheer level of digging and detail of each of the locations. It was tough to build but the outcome was awesome. I'm kicking myself still to this day that I didn't save pictures from it.

How active you will be (incl. timezone):

I'm located in Finland (Finland / UTC+3) and play several hours a week. Scheduled time isn't a thing for me since I'm an entrepreneur as well so I work minecraft in around whatever time I have (usually evenings). I plan to continue a new initiative of making my own minecraft videos also for the server I play on. I have personal goals to achieve and the videos are part of the process so I plan to be as busy as time allows me to be to make this happen.

What you can bring to the server and our players:

I'm a loyal and stable person, which probably comes with being a 43 year old dad of five kids :)

I'm pretty passionate about the things I get involved in and minecraft is no different. I'm a huge fan of Hermitcraft. Like...HUGE. What I like about them is their positivity and spreading of 'fun,' which is something I value greatly. I aspire to be like that when I play. Additionally, I've started dabbling into making YouTube videos for my minecraft experiences, which is a lot harder than people might realize. While I make webpages, videos, and do sound recording for my irl job, making minecraft videos has been a huge challenge that I really want to improve. My motivation for doing them is my son, who is a minecraft player , and looks up to his Dad. I aim to bring joy & entertainment through my videos while raising my own personal profile (and by proxy the profile of the server) in the process.

I like to build alone and also with in small group projects. I tend to develop my own themes/vision/storylines for my builds through research and documentation, which I share with my friends who are excited by the ideas and together we implement them through sharing of roles and responsibilities. I enjoy the researching and looking for new inspirations from which to plan the next builds. This is probably my biggest strength. I'd consider myself to be friendly and positive, but often quiet and focused on what I'm building (depending on the moment of course).

I believe that I would bring a sense of authenticity and reality to the server. How? In that my building 'style' is still being discovered (despite playing since 2010) and I'm always in the process of improvement. I'd like to think that people that do thigns with me will see a player that is genuine but also a work in progress, aiming towards an ultimate goal.

Lastly, I've got administration experience from previous servers which can be useful in that I like to help others and also contribute to problem-solving and overall server development. I'm a serious player and have been on the lookout for a serious server that plays with Hermitcraft-like rules and invests proper time into the group. Stability and long-term play is important to me and that's what motivates me to find the right server that matches (and even exceeds) my expectations. In finding the right 'partnership, I believe it could be a win-win scenario and I could contribute well to the server.

Pictures of previous builds (not required but appreciated):

I don't have many pictures of previous builds sadly as my computers have been switched out since and I've not figured out cloud storage soon enough (DOH!) but here's a couple of some recent ones (shaders aren't on though :( )

Why are you interested in joining this server?

I'm really seeking to belong to a group that 1) is mature (in age...we're hopefully all kids at heart) and 2) that has been together a long time and is stable. There are a lot of SMP servers out there. Most are new and don't tend to have the longevity factor. From what I can tell from the post, this group is one of the fewer groups in the minecraft community focused on the above two factors that I consider important.

    Strengths (redstone, building, etc):
I have a history as a "functional builder." In other words, function over looks. This has annoyed me greatly and has frustrated my minecraft play for years. I've been playing minecraft since 2010 and I'm trying to shake that self-given reputation of being a functional builder and challenging myself to work on building something that also looks good. This is obviously pretty subjective but the measurement I'd use is comparing to my previous builds and determine if this looks better or not. If it does, win-win.:lol:

I'm not great at redstone but am always willing to learn and try out different contraptions and ways of wiring things where applicable. These are mostly for farms. I spend most of my time resource gathering and building farms. I'm not an Ilmango/Sci-craft "I build biiiiiiig and complex farms" kind of person but farms that function well and provide the resources needed to support what I like to do, and sometimes more to support a shop.

I'm a big fan of many of the hermits from the hermitcraft server and enjoy taking some ideas and benchmarking aspects of them into my own builds. Note: benchmark, not copy. ;)

My strengths are loyalty and stability that comes with experience and age irl. I'm not a dude seeking drama and I can useful in mitigating drama when I'm around. I like to build alone but also with a small group.

This server also allows and encourages streaming and/or recording of gameplay for YouTube, which is an area I've started exploring and wish to continue in the capacity I can.

How many other servers have you been on and for how long? Will this be your primary server?

I used to belong to a great, Hermitcraft-like server that had a really tight-knit core, which I'd like to think that I belonged to as well. Even served as an admin there for a time. I made some good friends as well there but eventually left due to changing strategies to grow rather than build with the core already existing. Additionally, they used the spigot/core-protect combo, which was excellent for security but really hurt mob farms, which I really enjoy building and have been a big part of my game.

I belong to another small server with a group of old friends. I don't play there often because the group of friends that joined with me no longer play. It's a bit demotivating to play in an SMP server alone on group builds. I'm there as a friend and occasionally visiting the server but largely no longer play minecraft there.

I joined a new SMP server in the last 24 hours and it seems nice but what I'm not sure about is the longevity factor, which is very important to me. I like it for the new world and hermitcraft-like rules but in my 24 hours I've seen the players grind and go forward so fast to reach end game stuff that I'm a bit worried for the long term investment that I like to make in my play, whether or not the owner will get bored and let the server die off. So this is a big question mark for me as that server and this KingCraft server have been extensively vetted and researched to narrow down as the two locations I'm considering investing my time long term. One of the two is new and yours has been around for a long time. One with a brand new world and one that has had the world going on for quite some time.

One thing is clear, I WANT to invest is a server long term and as my primary server and I really want to find the right one for me.

What other games do you enjoy playing?
I play Football Manager as my second game, if I had to choose one other than minecraft. Football = soccer, btw. Just clarifiying ;)
I'm a huge minecraft fan and play that as my primary game but football manager is a good one to play while watching TV and relaxing as you really only need one hand to play it. I've got Civ VI and Master of Orion installed and play that occasionally too. I used to be in deeeeep with Call of Duty and was involved in building several clans and admining several servers back in the day. Those were a lot of fun but the nature of those games and the communities got pretty toxic and drama-filled and were challenging to maintain and build a group where there weren't people that didn't think that they could "do it better" and start their own group all the time. Nowdays, I stick to minecraft and strategy /simulation games.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Hobbies, interests, etc. The more we know, the more information we have to base that decision off of.
