Might I make a suggestion and you have people post pictures. That might weed out the "pros" from the pros.

S6 is a preview designed to work with shaders, you need E1 for maximum FPS.

Thanks for the heads up. Thing is.. I normally run with shaders in the past, no problems. And still have the FPS. Are you saying to not use shaders and that is the only way to get the FPS back ? Not trying to be rude, just trying to understand your comment a bit better.

Frames rates are only 15 FPS. Not good, especially when trying to record for youtube. Normally I can play at 60 FPS even while recording for youtube no problem.

I started playing in 2010 when Minecraft was alpha. I didn't know at that time what the game was about but all I knew is that I loved the idea of crafting. When I realized that a skeleton was out to get me in the middle of the dark night, I knew I was hooked.

Could somebody tell me why I can't use the shaders? I am using the right version of minecraft and pressing the super secret settings but the only thing that happens is the noise plays and nothing else.

What video card do you have ? Look up the model number of your video card and see if you need to update your drivers or not.

As I've said, it's not just about hardware. Drivers are also important, too. You can be using a lower version of OpenGL if your graphics driver doesn't support a higher version. People worried about not having OpenGL 2.1 should try updating their graphics driver and check in Minecraft via Snooper, as if they've never updated the graphics driver on their 2-5 year old computer, they just might get 2.1 or higher, especially if they aren't that far from it.

Well that is partially true. Just because you can update the drivers to higher then your video card specs show, doesn't mean you can support all the features of the updated drivers. It even says this in the official OpenGL books. I know because I have the 3rd Edition all the way up to 5th editions. I also have the "Orange Book" sitting here too. All of them give history and explanations about OpenGL's history and its ups and downs. One thing that is common through out all these books is that not all graphics card manufactures' agree on specs or features. So when a video card is shown to support OpenGL 2.1, it means it fully supports ONLY the 2.1 CORE features of OpenGL and any extra is just bonus of that card. So when you update the drivers you are not guarenteed you'll be able to use every feature from the update.

Well this is why it can be a problem if Minecraft is going to require 2.1. Just by updating the drivers doesn't guarentee they can still play it if their card shows that it supports something less. So yes, my statement about the hardware is exactly correct. They need to update their video card itself to fully be compatible with OpenGL 2.1 CORE. And these folks whom are complaining about not being able to play is showing that their card is not compatible. Some say they did update, and yet, they still can't play. So bottom line, it goes back to being a hardware issue. And who knows what Mojang is going to add when it comes to OpenGL 2.1 features. So it would save them a lot of frustration to go ahead and update their video card to support a minimum of OpenGL 2.1.

    I have a desktop.
I can't update my drivers, anyway, in Windows are only capable of OGL 1.5 and in Linux 2.0, but in Linux I can't get the snapshot to start.

What video card are you on ? And what Computer Model do you have ? What CPU Model Number ? What is your Total Ram ?

There might be a way around it.

I use Windows 7 and Ubuntu and the game works fine in both. But again, its not about your OS, its about your HARDWARE. Your video card is what determines if it can handle the features of OpenGL. So if your on a REALLY OLD video card, then no wonder you can't run it. Update your video card.

Here is a card on amazon for roughly 30 bucks. It can handle OpenGL 3.1.

Isn't OpenGL 2.1 over seven years old? Doesn't exactly require an uber grapics card to cover that.

Exactly. Most of today's computers can handle it. If your on a computer that can't, then your computer is extremely old and most likely you don't have a decent video card in the first place. But cheap video cards off of amazon for about 15 bucks can get you a video card that supports at least 3.2 and higher. MAC OSX supports 3.2, Windows and Linux Ubuntu can support up to 4.3 as well.

This isn't really the A.P.I - It's no where near completion and hasn't really been worked on recently..

I never said it was the api. Read again. I said it was getting setup FOR the API. This way those who make mods using the API, can have access to the Shaders through the API once the API is released.
