posted a message on Do you guys know how to prevent lag?
    Quote from jcm2606»

You didn't exactly answer the question.

You're referring to two different types of lag here, and mixing them up. Lag typically is low FPS, which is independent on your network. You can have an uber network with 1GB/s up and down and still have the game running like crap with 10 FPS, this is entirely your computer. Optifine will help here and this is characterised by the game stuttering, locking up and appearing not very smooth.

Latency, or network lag, is when network traffic takes too long to transfer between your computer and the other computer, I think this is what you're referring to when you say "it spikes at 10:00 but it's fine at 12:00". This is not caused by your computer (or, shouldn't be, your network card may be screwy, but that's something I cannot help you with aside from saying buy a new one), this is usually caused by your ISP and the traffic your ISP supports.

Sometimes latency is caused by congestion, other people on your ISP's lines, like you, trying to load a web page or play a game. As more people are using the network traffic builds up and the line gets congested, the servers / relays take longer to sort through all the traffic and hence your speed drops (this is a generalisation, not exactly how it works, but still). Congestion is usually characterised by your internet only dropping in speed during certain times; if your network is say running smooth up until 3:00 PM, then it drops in speed and stability until maybe 9 or 10 at night, this might be congestion, which unfortunately you can't do much about. You could try and strike up a deal with your ISP to increase your bandwidth, so your line has a bit more priority, it may help, but typically this is an issue on your ISPs end that you cannot fix.

However, on the off chance, latency could also be caused by the lines being damaged. Telstra, an Australian ISP, had an issue a couple months back that caused speeds to drop significantly state-wide, and the network just cut out. At times the speed would drop to and below dial-up, even on the premium deals. If this is the case, you're not the only one who's being affected, many other people are being affected and in some cases even worse then you are.

If either of those are not the case and you have bad speeds and instability around the clock, you may just have a poor deal, in which case look to see what an upgrade will run you. Either way, this isn't caused by your computer. If you punch a block out and it reappears 3 seconds later, this is latency and no mod or program will help here. Optifine won't help.

Oooh, but all the lag happens, like, at one time its the latency and another is fps (Which I can get with opifine) But I think I got it. Thanks for all that info and help.

So is your problem with FPS or Ping because your router doesn't effect your FPS at all just your Ping. If its with FPS then just download and install optifine its amazing, if its with Ping then well your kind of stuck unless you get better internet, I would also seeing if any other programs in the background are using internet that could also be a problem.

I'm planning to get opifine but lag for me is when it spikes at 10:00 but its fine at 12:00.

It's killing me, and my settings are at 2 chunks and stuff. I searched it up and it was all downloading or messing with your router, but I dont want to have something so BIG and hard.

Not passive ones like villagers and pigs.

If your on a server is anyone trollling you? Or is a mob shooting stuff? I think you might wanna check out http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/discussion/161023-passive-mob-despawn

I agree, but mostly with the server atmosphere. Minecraft has became very commercialized all around.

That is good, the creeper plushies are awesome, but I agree, alot more hackers and stuff have came since Minecraft gotten bigger.

Smooth lighting was integrated from a mod. Pistons came from a mod. Numerous other features, including repeaters, were present in mods to the game before they were added to the game.

Also, not to sleight modders at all, as they do some great work- but dealing with Modded minecraft is a nightmare. Even if all the mods work good together, now you get the fun of having to update those mods- and most of them are developed by teens who just learned to code, so the idea of a "breaking change" is all in a days work. Other's practically rewrite them for every major version. Thaumcraft has to be practically 4 completely different mods depending on the version.

In terms of "features from mods" I think most people are talking about the Elaytra, if referring to the new snapshots. Which mod is that from, exactly? The OpenBlocks glider is clunky in comparison. The new enchantments aren't from mods either, unless we count things like Tinker's Construct Moss as a "mending" enchant, which I think would be pushing it.

One thing I value about Vanilla is that I can be sure to bring my worlds forward into new versions. This is hardly a guarantee with Mods. I have some modded worlds that I worked on a lot in FTB Ultimate, there isn't any hope of ever having those worlds updated because the mods involved have changed so significantly the old data is no longer compatible at all- The aforementioned Thaumcraft in particular. I have another in 1.6.4, And even though all the mods are updated for 1.7.2 there is no chance of me being able to bring that world forward into 1.7 because the new versions of the mods are not compatible with their previous versions.

I don't care that Gliders are in mods, because I'm not going to ever use Mods on the main world I have had since 1.9 Beta. I created it with the express intent of never making the mistake of adding a mod to my game and using it in that world because that simply caused my worlds to last only until the next version of Minecraft. And even ignoring that- The Glider/Eleytra added to Vanilla is light-years from facing brock ahead of any that I've seen in mods.

I know but the mods it based off of arent that original/useful/good anymore. Horses and pistons are amazing and cool but duel wielding is more ehhhh. Also the glider is awesome, though it isnt Minecraftly.

Mojang still handles the day to day operations and most of the development and support for Minecraft, Microsoft as their parent company now mainly plays a supervisory and oversight role. This meaning most of the original Minecraft team is still working on the game, except for of course Notch as he did leave Mojang when he sold the company. I do agree with you though, back in those days Minecraft was a lot more classic and simple. Now days it seems as if they are adding new elements to the game that should left up the modding community to implement. Some of the things that I have been added recently or are planned to be added are things I wouldn't necessarily consider "vanilla" and I agree that things should be kept more simple.

That is kinda what Im saying, but I thought Microsoft threw in ideas and plans?

Argue your opinion but I miss old minecraft, in 1.7. It was way more orignal but now it bases everything off mods. 1.7 and 1.8 seemed alot more simple and classic in a nice way, and now I feel like I'm playing unknown mods. Its nice that Mircosoft has more money and more flexible, but I miss notch and his way of the game.
