Yes I believe your mod was brought up a bit ago, you can try to tell in more detail how do you plan to implement stuff like ships for example, Frost just loves all these things together with all these crazy people who come here regularly .
What's interesting is that there are more and more space mods appearing around MCF, I think it would be good if all these modders unite their efforts. What Frost does here with the engine is pretty amazing and will probably blow everyone away when it's out (its already quite mind blowing). It would probably make sense if all that work is used as a base for other modders to help and add content together onto it.
Not rly, I’m an old fan of Freespace 2 for example, yes all you do there is duke it out with aliens in the middle of empty space, and yet each mission felt fresh and good in it's own way, and it is not true that space is "Empty", there is some terrain, not just mere shrubs but these that change your fighting style to the limit (that sort of balances with the "empty" parts of space) such as nebulas that disturb your electronics and vision, asteroid belts that require you to manoeuvre in tight spaces.
Yes most space is empty but when it comes to dogfights its not what’s interesting about it, to dodge new opponents, flak fire, engage among other ships. In space battles the terrain consists of different things than what we're used to (such as the same battleships) and require different approach.
Finally we don't just throw ships in the middle of nowhere, as I understand we plan to adopt a system somewhat similar to Sins of a Solar empire, where ships travel between points of interest in a system such as planets, stations, jump nodes etc. It can even be given clever lore that jump trajectories are effected by gravity, get too close to a planet and your drive might not be enough - you will end up pulled out of hyperspace (can also be caused by hyperspace inhibitors). As a result inside gravity wells you have to travel using your standard engine and when you reach the edge of the gravity well, or at least the point where it doesn't keep you from jumping anymore you can use hyperspace and move on to your next destination. That is also why you cant jump from one side of a system to another as there are gravity wells in the way so you must plot your jump course accordingly to avoid collision.
No, forget the OP , Im here for 3 years maybe it hasn't changed once (lazy mack ) , anyway if you want to really know what’s going on head over to the forums (that are also still down ... don't worry you'll be redirected to our old forum that we currently use, better than nothing), FC-Mod.com . Alternatively keep an eye out on the latest pages, frost often posts pictures and technical nonsense that is generally the progress on the mod.
Well we need more ? I mean fine to make it for low end computers, but to extend. I mean I could possibly test stuff out for you on our 14 years old computer that I used to write assembly for school and that still runs on win 98 , guess considering we plan on launch Kilometers long ships into space we'll need that extra efficiency.
I say it needs more flashy picture, yea more flashy ! Work for the ppl with short attention spans ! Bring the existing demos out of the spoilers to an easy to find place, and did I say more pictures ? BTW I have these pictures in store just for you .
Yes I don't see in Starmade as a rival but rather an experiment, you can see what it does well and what it does wrong prior to your own release which allows you to improve your work, such privilege wasn't given to starmade ....
Oh my... Well that's a bummer. You guys seen the new project contest on PMC? Nether Empire or something along those lines.
Yea, between us both the contests there never seemed quite fair (especially when a build of our contestant was discarded in the last moment to let someone through probably in the last space themed build and you can guess that we know how to build space things here ... ). I heard some ppl here try to make a project there anyway because why not !
About Starmade we went our own way when it comes to design and I actually can learn from Starmade what NOT to do because sometimes it looks downright ugly, not because of 2D low res and so on but because of poor artistic choices. A planet can look more or less alright because you can't go wrong with plain green grass unless you are really talented but the blocks used for ship building are just ugly. The lighting doesn't help at all BTW as the plain bright white really makes it look even worse and the ships look out of place, especially on the higher res background that I would replace with a simplistic yet so much better MC style skybox. Well I do must note some things look better than others but in general it has poor aesthetics. Also the way planets work is not the best.
Also I think the thing that actually brought those people here is the moving blocky ships together with all the cool guns and equipment we gonna add for them
