posted a message on Need help with strange "shutting down internal server" crashes.
I experience the same issue with Red Power's Project Table and expanding maps crashing the game. It's 100% consistent and reproducible for me.

Just curious, are you using Linux? I am. The Penguin in your avatar made me wonder if maybe you were too and maybe it's just a linux problem.

I wanted to post it to the RedPower 2 bug tracker, but I couldn't find if they had one or not.

How did you find us?: rinforthewin recommended me.
What features attracted you to this server?: Being able to build undisturbed. And the neat farmworld thing.
Any suggestions based upon your first impressions?: You need a little tutorial area that covers some common commands, like locking/sharing chests.
What command should be used if you need to report griefing or need help?: /undo or /help - nah, just kidding. /modreq
Anything else we should know about you?: I'm a registered pun offender. I help out with the mc wiki a lot. I like redstone and trading, but mostly keep to myself, other than sharing a flat with rinforthewin. I also enjoy converting zombie villagers for some odd reason. When I build something, I make it look fairly nice (as much as my non-artistic self can muster) or else I make it hidden, so you won't get any eye-sores from me.

Be paranoid. Be like the SWAT when they bust into a house - carefully approach corners, and then quickly look left, right, up, and get a good detailed sense of your surroundings. If you have trouble with creepers, practice flatfooted blocking - that means, the moment you hear the "Sss" out of nowhere, you need to switch to your sword and block as quickly as you can. Make sure you keep your sword in a very convenient slot, like number 1, so you can press that key to switch to it real quick.

I helped a friend practice surprise creeper blocking. We went into a lan flatworld. I set them on survival, gave them a shovel and a sword and told them "start digging". Then I started spawning creepers behind them. They had to switch from the shovel to the sword and block the explosion immediately. The practice helped immensely, and since then, my friend brings home stacks of gunpowder after some exploration.

posted a message on Endermen die and spawn other mobs?
"Other hostile mobs" meaning what, exactly?
So, you're in the end, you're at your enderman farm, and you kill a single enderman, and as a result, suddenly a Skeleton/Zombie/Spider spawns *in the end* with you?
If so, your game has a serious bug, because the only hostile mobs that can spawn in The End are Endermen (and the dragon)

posted a message on firework flare system
Actually I play on a server where heads are enabled, although at maybe about the same frequency as wither skeleton heads (as you'd expect). I have a skeleton spawner xp farm that I've used quite a few times, and so far I only have 6 skeleton heads, compared to my 50 diamonds. So I think that gives you a fairly good idea, that even if they did turn the heads on, it'd be a very expensive firework.

Strange that they'd huddle. Maybe there's a village nearby and they're all trying to go towards it. Or a door.

The creeper head idea is not a good idea, because the crafting recipe calls for a mob head, making it extremely expensive.

posted a message on Zombie Villagers
It takes a long time and is generally not worth it

Depends on how far your nearest village is. In my world, the nearest villages are 1000 blocks away, which is still 125 blocks in the nether (plus portal animation times). It's really convenient to start a little mini-village right at my own home, so I did. I got a blacksmith and a librarian.

Plus, it's really really cool to start a village completely from scratch.

Depends. When caving underground, you're usually surrounded by smooth stone, which has a high blast resistance. A creeper explodes, it'll probably only take out 1 or 2 blocks. Dirt, on the other hand, has a low blast resistance. At ground level, or even on an underground dirt patch, a creeper explodes and it'll take out a nice chunk.

posted a message on How to check a seed.
This thread got necro'd. First by Denneh, and then by Deth. At the time that this was originally posted, I think there wasn't a way to get the seed other than the method Pink Wool shared. Since then, it was added to F3, and has since been moved to /seed.

Let's let this thread rest in peace now.

    On the bright side:
    1) It's not a spawner, so you won't get a hundred of them
    2) They're quire rare, so it's not like they're going to start crawling out of the woodworks like they do in strongholds.
    It's just a nice surprise - silverfish!

I ran into one of these when my friend and I were exploring an abandoned mineshaft. Didn't realize it was under extreme hills. Fighting off cave spider spawner after cave spider spawner - talk about nerves on edge. Started clearing out the way to the next one when *pop* "tsst" (or whatever sound the buggers make). "Oh god silverfish. Are you sh-ing me?! Now is not the time!" Made me jump a foot - and I never jump. After the experience, I realize that it really added to the excitement and I'm glad they added it.

posted a message on Is it safe to mine TNT?
Yes. I had the same concern when I came across my first one. In the old days of minecraft, hitting TNT would cause it to ignite. That is no longer the case. Now you can use your fists or pickaxe or anything and it'll break instantly. As long as you don't try to light it with flint and steel (done by right-clicking) or shoot it with a Flame bow (also done by right clicking). So keep to left clicks and you'll be fine.

A nifty trick - when you encounter a temple, and get to the bottom, use you pickaxe to take out the pressure plate first. Destroying the pressure plate will not ignite the TNT. Once it's gone, the temple is safe.

Fun story: in my hardcore world, I had a temple *inside* a village (no blacksmith though). So I go in one day to loot it, and I start digging down, and I hear "Grrrrr...." *click*
A zombie had spawned in the lower part of the temple and stepped on the pressure plate. I high-tailed it out of there and mourned the loss of the valuables inside. The village survived, but the temple had a huge crater below it. In the crater I only found some cobblestone and dirt from the last TNT that went off. All the other dropped items had been destroyed.

posted a message on Spiral staircase staring at the top
a 2x2 spiral staircase? Or a spiral staircase where each stair is 2 blocks wide?

In the prior case, there's only 2 ways you can do it - clockwise or counterclockwise.
From the top, dig down 1, then 2, then 3, and don't dig out the top block of the 4th. From here, follow the next set of instructions. At this point, it should look like this from a top-down perspective (notice it's 2x2):
    1 2
    0 3<- you are here

Now, once you are inside the staircase, for every stair, turn a quarter turn in the same direction every time (for a clockwise downward spiral, turn right). Then dig out the two blocks in front of you and the 1 block below those 2 blocks. Don't dig out anything more. Walk down that stair, and repeat from the quarter turn. Over and over, until you reach the desired depth.

Notice, these are dreadful to go up or down, but they get the job done.
For lighting it up, I'd recommend torches every full rotation (every 4 steps).

posted a message on Request: Seed with broken end portal
The wiki seems to suggest otherwise (it seems to suggest that ravines and abandoned mineshafts are generated after), but if nobody's ever seen one, then the wiki should be tweaked.
