Now ready for 1.7.4! All textures are not completely there, but we're looking at only the newest (and the horses) being default at this point!

I have no access to photo-editing programs at this point, but I will be ready for 1.8 (and surpass 1.7.4) as quick as I can!

Thank you for all of your expressed interest and love for this pack. I know I've put a lot of thought and love into it, so I am always glad to hear people's feedback on it. Art that compells one to enough emotion to speak out on it is a success in my book!

posted a message on New Birch Trees
I see what you're all saying, and I do agree that you can change your texture pack. The thing is, birch trees just aren't that massive in width and that short in real life. They'd be much more elegant in a fence post-like size.

As for the mechanics behind the blocks, they'd basically be the opposite of a fence. 4x4x16 in size (based on default texture res), 1 block in collision height. And, dropping the sideways logs, if necessary, the branches would be 16x4x4 and would connect to leaf blocks, and not to each other. It'd be like the Netherbrick posts and fence posts not connecting, only it would, in fact, connect to leaf blocks.

The block basically exists already, it's just a combination of the two and a slight connect-to-block-type rule changed. And, I mean, if you want a full-size white block, you can use wool, right? The top texture of the log you can get with any other log in the game; they're all the same texture.

    ---

As for me, I always end up making my own trees out of fences around me builds. It looks more sophisticated. Does no one else do this?

    SUGGESTION:
    Thin Birch Trees

As I've played Minecraft, I've noticed that the birch trees just don't feel like they fit in the game that well. Obviously, this is my personal opinion, but I would still like to suggest changing the birch tree logs to blocks much more like fence blocks.

I don't know about anybody else, but I've never found the birch log texture very appealing to use in builds. It always ends up making everything look like a giant, designer cake. So, changing the blocks to more of a fence model might not be so bad?

Now, you'd obviously want to change a little bit about the block model, and make the 'branches' possibly 4x4 in width as well. This could blend perfectly with the new update allowing sideways logs as well. The only twist with this block, other than a slight model and collision-box shape, would be the property of it 'connecting' to leaf blocks.

Perhaps you could make the log only yield 2 planks instead of 4, to compensate for the change in size? Other than that, I think it would allow for much better use in builds. White fences, ornamental trees, a 'transparent' block that attaches to other 'transparent' blocks, even if only leaves.

So, yes, that is my suggestion. I know it's a bit lengthy, but I'm not good at short explanations. What do you guys think?

posted a message on SmoothStone Biome Colour?
I totally agree with this concept. I've wanted the stone to feel like it fit each biome better as well. On top of this concept, however, I feel it would be more fun to have each biome actually HAVE it's OWN stone textures, much like the new wooden planks. This would allow for more variation in building, and would also be supported by the extensive amount of new block types that are available to fill. And, as far as scripting goes, it would only have to be biome-specific when generated, but have the exact same properties as standard smoothstone.

I believe, although I'm not certain, that Terraria did the biome-specific stones. It just gives people more blocks to work with and REALLY brings the different biomes to life.

posted a message on Biome colors effecting textures, please help?
That's just an in-game options setting. Since you're running on fast graphics the sides of the grass blocks are whatever colour you chose for default. If you had a mod like Optifine, you could set Fancy Grass, and not have to run on completely Fancy graphics. So, don't worry about it; you're doing it all right. Just something Minecraft does to help Fast Graphics be more useful.

posted a message on RetroNES Texture Pack
This pack is so reminiscent, man. Thanks for continuing to update it. :D Really digging it; the textures are great. Oh, and the creepers!? Wow, that scared me! xD

EDIT: Okay, and to actually be helpful: :P
    - Saw the Jukebox lookin' like a Nintendo. Very nice, with the cartridges as well.
    - The only noticeable tiling is in the stone. But I think that also makes for a great dungeon-style game look.
    - You are missing a few pixels on the string of the bow, as was previously mentioned.
    - The still water is indeed thick and hard to see thru, which fits, but the flowing water is rather transparent. It just doesn't seem to fit in the with still water texture due to the transparency difference.
    - All the icons for the various interactive UI's are great.
    - The glass is great being JUST glass. So often people try to add a border to the smaller resolution packs, and it looks too busy.
    - I'd suggest making a different hunger bar. It's cool that you're using the aspects of vanilla Minecraft to show that in a retro way, but I also think it's too similar.

And, every texture I see, I just go, "woah, awesome! Woah, awesome!" haha. This last time was the glowstone and the fire. Keep this pack going, man, it's going places. ;)

    Quote from DOTxTRI

Why did you put PASSIVE in your title? Why do you have to put the word passive when we already know that birds won't attack us?

I put passive in the title so people know that they aren't vultures, eagles, or any other sort of large or aggressive bird; we're just talking sparrows, finches, what-have-you. They don't attach and can even be skittish like the ocelot.

    Quote from YayForMinecraft

Just that he doesn't say a purpose doesn't mean it doesn't have one. We aren't here to say that we agree, we're supposed to build upon the suggestion and make it better. Maybe he forgot to mention it. What I think could be nice is that the birds drop blue feathers (I somehow think of them as blue) that can be crafted to make Aerodynamic Arrows, or AeroArrows for short. They fly much farther, almost in a straight line. And when you break a nest, it will drop 1-2 eggs. The eggs can be used in normal crafting recipes but are necessary to craft bird nests. They are crafted like this:

    :|: :|: :|:
    :|: :Diamond: :|:
    :|: :|: :|:
The diamond is a bird egg. This will act as a "bird spawner" as mentioned in the OP, but will only spawn three birds at most. The birds will automatically breed and make more, but if there are less than two birds they will die out. And a bird will also "migrate" to other nearby nests if there are three. A newly placed nest will have no birds in it, and needs to be populated.

Also, you can attract birds with seeds and they will follow you and leave their nest. So you can send birds over to your homemade nest from 50 miles away. Also, they can be tamed with 2-3 seeds to make them follow you, which doesn't do anything.

As this is all very well thought out and good, it's not really what I was meaning. See, I was trying to avoid the crafting of a nest, simply because it doesn't make actual sense. Secondly, I believe the purpose in these nests (acting as spawners, yes) being generated at random with each leaf block type, would be in order to not effect mob spawn rates as the game is now.

Now, yes, I'm aware that this WILL, in fact, effect the spawn rates of all other mobs. But, I also feel that implicating the chance of a nest to spawn in a tree, and the ability to destroy said nest is key to making this addition possible. If we can just craft the nests and can do things like tame them and move them, it's all just too complex and bogs down the game. I'm simply suggesting the birds for atmospheric enrichment and the possibility of either the bird or the nest dropping a rare item. Even if they could simply drop, say, that blue feather which would fly farther and straighter. (Speaking of, everyone's seen the second, coloured arrow in the texture files, right? Why's there no use for that yet? :D )

posted a message on Birds and Nests (Passive)
Say, I got a Minecraft idea for you guys:

Birds: When a tree spawns, there's a chance (1/500? on all, 1/200? on jungle) that a nest will spawn on top of a leaf block. Then, the birds will spawn from it (having around 3 different textures to randomize thru) and will fly about that area and occasionally fly back to the nest. Now, these birds come from nests (which are actually disguised spawners) and will indeed despawn (just like an aggressive mob will) if they are 40+ blocks away from a player for a certain length of time. This would allow for no serious change in the games functionality, as only a set amount of mobs can spawn per chunk, and would allow the player to both create (indirectly) and destroy (directly) the spawners for birds.

I think the idea is good and is considered enough to allow for no real change in spawn rates for all other mobs. And, much like the silver fish mob, they won't drop anything but XP upon death. What do you think?
