i made what i call the temple of fate. it requires any kind of block, sand or gravel, redstone torch, redstone, pistons, dispenser, lever, and a redstone repeater. first you make a simple inverter. here is how i made my inverter: redstone torch on block with a lever then another block with redstoneon it and running down the side to the ground and back up a different block and another block with a redstone torch. when you flip the lever the first torch should turn off and the second should turn on. then from the FIRST torch you connect a piston holding sand. the piston should be activated. from the SECOND torch you wire some redstone to a two block high dispencer. it should be level with your head. remove one of the redstone from the dispencer's trail and replace it with a redstone repeater. set it on the last setting. load the dispencer with something and flip the lever. the sand should drop and the dispencer will activate. if it worcks then cover all the wiring with you block. fill the dispencer with arrows and other helpful stuff. when somebody flips the lever it will shoot them with an arrow or give them something special. i have this on my Xbox world and it works really well!
