posted a message on Back after a long time!

Hi again all! It’s been a while. Based on my post history looks like last time I played Java was around caves and cliffs update, however don’t think I’ve played much on java or at all since maybe somewhere around update aquatic. I haven’t had a laptop for a long time and I can’t take to bedrock so much, I prefer the controls on a laptop amongst other things.

I’ve finally found myself in a position where I had some money to spend, and I have an Alienware X17 R1 arriving very soon. I’m extremely excited and hoping I made the right decision. I really liked the M17 too but it was harder to find (couldn’t find one without some sort of defect), I was worried about stains as I like the white version and read that it can still stain even with the updated coating, and I figured the 11th gen i7 would be a lot better for MC than the 10th gen as I know MC is more CPU dependent? Specs are i7 11800H, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3060, Windows 11. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t run well, but wondering exactly how well we’re talking here - I’d love the options for fancy shaders and resource packs with a decent render distance. Did I make the right choice? (I’m not fussed so much about other laptops with the same/better specs for cheaper as I love the Alienware models and was set on one of these - rather, was I right to choose this over the M17?)

Also, what’s changed?! I know I can look at the update history and believe me I will be, however I feel a bit new and clueless again (though not panicking in my dirt hut with a spider looking through the window new haha - I miss those early days!) and would love some of the main/most important changes summarised to me by people who’ve still been playing! I’m so looking forward to being able to play again and very restless waiting for laptop to arrive, feel free to share anything that might make this wait easier! Thanks :)

posted a message on Is there a way to display my current location arrow on map like in java edition?

I’ve just seen this, and you have no idea how much I love you. I’ve been adapting to MC on Switch for a while as have an iPad but not pc/laptop nowadays and been missing MC. I’ve spent probably last couple of months blindly trying to fill in maps with no idea where I’m actually positioned, kept missing little sections here and there, getting disoriented, and struggling to fill them in. Now I can actually look forward to filling in the rest of this map and more :D

    Thank you, mysterious Minecraft genius

I mean I think at some point I made a compass, went to craft a map, realised (thought) I didn’t need it and was annoyed with myself for going to the effort of making one for that purpose… if only I’d known!

posted a message on Is there a way to display my current location arrow on map like in java edition?

Still really hoping to find this out! Wondering if it’s a glitch on my switch (lol at rhyme) or just how Minecraft bedrock is? Makes things so unnecessarily tricky! If this is just how it is, I’d appreciate any tips! Do any resource packs change the background colour of map so it’s clearer if there’s a part not filled in yet? I don’t see how I’m meant to make a giant map of loads joined together if I can’t see when I’ve gone off the edge of the map to create the next one? Please and thanks for any help!

posted a message on Will the lava destroy my underground biome?

I’ve found a cool underground biome (playing on switch), idk what it’s called as I haven’t played much since the newer updates. But it’s got a mossy looking ceiling and beautiful vines hanging down… and a stream of lava. It’s like a lava waterfall - will it set fire to this underground biome and destroy it? I’d just remove the lava but it looks so pretty! Thank you!

posted a message on Do maps update as you build?

With the default non-modded maps, if I change the terrain in game (eg widen a river) or build a building big enough to show up (I’m using the most zoomed-out map), will it update the progress on the map or will the map continue to show the world as it was when it first loaded? Thank you!

posted a message on Is there a way to display my current location arrow on map like in java edition?

I play on switch currently, I’ve made a map however it’s really tricky filling it in when I can’t refer to an arrow on the map to show me which way I’m facing/where I am etc. Is there a way to do this on switch, resource pack etc? Would really appreciate some help please, thank you!

posted a message on Who is successfully playing Biomes O Plenty in 1.18, please?

Haven’t played MCPC in ages, started up a new world in 1.18.2 today with a handful of my favourite mods. Worked great at first, found a seed I loved and started building a home. Then out of nowhere, I changed nothing, when I tried to load the game it was coming up with an error saying terrablend (now required with BoP) has crashed or similar. Since, I’ve tried SO many different download versions of terrablend and forge, with terrablend the only mod I’m attempting to run, and I’ve tried in 1.18.0 and 1.18.1 (no terrablend version for 1.18.0 though so didn’t expect that to work) and nothing will work! It’s usually the terrablend has crashed error but a few different ones have been thrown in for fun lol. Problem is as I want to carry on playing the world I’ve started I don’t want to go older than 1.18.0 in case it ruins my world. There must be some sort of magic combo of forge version + terrablend version that currently works? Would really appreciate any help - please and thank you!

Haven't been all that active for a while but trying to start a new creative world design and would like to try using MC edit, I've never really used it before. But looks like it's very out of date - what program do people use for the same thing nowadays, please? Cheers!

posted a message on Minecraft using Intel HD graphics instead of GeForce

When I try to open nvidia control panel it says application is not compatible with installed nvidia driver - i had to download the control panel app last night, shouldn't i have already had it? Could this mean my driver needs updating, I've recently started using this laptop again after a couple of years of thinking it wasn't working (well it wasn't at first) so I'm not sure what has and hasn't updated automatically! Thanks for responding!

Sorry I know this is a simple question, I've tried googling but either not working or getting stuck/confused. I had this problem before, ages back on this same laptop and fixed it, laptop stopped working for ages and randomly started working again but have this issue again. Haven't been able to play java for a while so feel like a newb again haha, and would really appreciate any help! I'm playing modded 1.16.5 on windows 10 laptop, thank you!

Laptop randomly started working again recently - do I start a new world with 1.17 latest snapshot, or stick with 1.16 and be able to use my favourite mods like Biomes o Plenty and Quark? If I do a modded 1.16 world, will it even work to update it to 1.17 eventually as the terrain generation is so different? Don't know what I should do and I'm impatient and want to start a new world tonight... help please? Thank you!!

posted a message on Best ‘decent value’ laptop to run Minecraft and a couple of other things well

So I don’t have a set budget as can’t afford anything rn haha. However for when I can, I’d like something that can run mc comfortably, with some mods and shaders, and maybe sims 3 but nothing like shooting games etc, without being ,massively expensive. What would you recommend please?

Ideally I want an old school hp hdx 20 hahah, except updated to nowadays. Love old laptops
