    Yeah this is 100% wrong. Cannons and most of the good traps rely on TNT and its easy to mine w/ TNT with health on, seeing as you can wire it and blast from a distance, or just run away during the generous fuse time. TNT makes this game a lot more fun, especially for pvp and protecting your house from raiding while you're offline, and it would be nice to see it work well enough by default that most servers allow it. Which of course requires the inventory hacks to be fixed which will be a while. More active hosts can allow it now and just use whitelists and inventory checkers. Just takes a lot of trusted mods and some admins on all the time (someone who can ban on all the time).

    Sounds like fun, but I'm not quite sure how you're saying you'll structure it. If you're saying two major factions it might work, but if you're talking more like a bunch of small teams then of course there would be a lot of down time for most of them with only one server for the maps. Or are you saying adding space onto the edge of the current map (expanding borders to encompass a new battlefield) for the factions to fight on?

    Anyway it sounds like a fun idea. If its two main factions starting a new map and fighting each time, it could be a blast - like a game of age of empires micro scale :biggrin.gif: One thing I don't like though is the short map times. I think it would be a lot more fun if at the start of each map you gave each side fifty percent of the map (perhaps the sides could be defined as north and south (would keep from giving one cannon advantage) with a map split evenly that way each time) and that map will last for one week. The weekdays will be build time and the battle would be across the weekend, with unlimited build (traps allowed from the very beginning). I think you'd see quite amazing complexes that way, with large teams and lots of time, and probably some outright insane trap layering :biggrin.gif:

    But sounds like fun anyway.

    So they work for pvp when you're hopping? Are you sure? I had the host of one of the server's I'm on shoot me w/ a bow since the update and it did nothing. He wasn't hopping, but I can't imagine why that would affect it.

    Wait bows work in smp now? Last I was aware of they still didn't w/ notch's combat fix, just worked client side (still appeared to shoot but wouldn't damage players). Has this been fixed?

    I had the same problem but only after downloading the loledit thing. Dunno how that could mess it up, but i downloaded it and loaded my inv up w/ ammo and sentries. Placed a bunch of sentries and went thru the ammo running around killing monsters and pigs and sheep. Then I re-insterted that same inventory and none of the guns would fire. I haven't tried yet using some bullets made w/ the recipes instead of imported w/ loledit, but I'll give it a shot and see if thats the problem.

    And yeah you already mentioned the problem w/ shotgun in a previous post (mebbe the previous thread). Will be nice if you find a fix for it :biggrin.gif: If so you should make an aa-12 shotgun for a sorta "god" weapon that server admins can put in for quest items or perhaps tournament prizes. Explosive and slug shotgun ammo choices would be nice as well in the future when more important fixes are in.

    But yeah overall an awesome mod, and I'm really looking forward to trying this w/ some friends in smp when its possible. Would the current nonfunctionality of smp ranged weapons keep this from working, or is that something you could fix client side? Also, if you get smp version working before notch fixes this a removal of nametags for it would be nice.

    And ditto what the guy said about sniper rifles. If you could add scopes, I would actually say just put in a remington 700 or some other popular bolt action and include craftable scopes of a couple different sorts (acog w/ 4x and sniper scope w/ 12x or so) and allow those scopes to be crafted onto all the weapons that seem appropriate for them. (make 'em require diamonds and metal parts and an iron ingot)


    Would it be possible to make a point defense turret btw? We've already got some simple versions of these today (the israelis make a very nice one called hammer or something like that that fires out a concussive shell that destroys incoming projectiles/knocks them off course). I've got a filling that mass rocket barrages to destroy sentry turrets from range will become really common once this gets in smp, and the sentries have such short range that they won't really have any defense against it. It would be nice to see a laser turret (just to justify it using expensive resources, I know we don't really have compact laser point defense turrets yet and those all take up tractor trailers lol) that would cause airborne explosives such as rockets, grenades, and cannon-tnt to explode instantly upon impact. Would be cool to see it actually aim at the object and maybe fire a beam, but not at all necessary. It could instead just cause explosives within its range to go off at its speed (a bit slower than the turrets now I think, definitely slower than the rocket so ppl can overwhelm it if they splurge on explosives).

    Construction might be something like this...

    since it would have such utility it should be expensive, but it should also be possible for people to spend the resources and make their base secure against anything but a massive rocket barrage or well timed and synchronized attacks w/ grenades, rockets, and cannon. Not something even worth bothering with until smp version is imminent though.

    Anyway, yet again a thousand awesomes. Seeing this thing was released made my day hehe

    EDIT: One more addition to yet another wot in your tread (sorry but it really is a great mod and that tends to make me text spew) you coudl make the turrets so the fire at the current speed by default but will fire at full speed if loaded with ammunition. They'd be useless at full speed outside, but this would allow for beefier more intimidating turrets on the interior once the enemy had broached your outer walls and entered the lit area. Also smart raiders could knock holes in the walls to let in monsters and use up the loaded turrets' ammo before attacking. Just another layer of delicious strategy.

    Heh I'd say go ahead and convert to smp before finishing features EXCEPT I doubt it would work currently what with the bows still being broken. But this is definitely gonna take up almost all my smp time once its on and there are some good servers for it.

    I just tried it and it's great :biggrin.gif: I'm not seeing any shell casings, but that's the only thing I've noticed so far (and it could be something with how i loaded it).

    It's a load of fun though. The desert eagle is perfect (though just for mobs, obviously haven't tried against players). The rocket as well is great. I'd say if the ak is gonna have so much recoil (which it should) then its damage should go up. The Deagle shouldn't be the PREFERRED gun all the time over the ak/mp5, and I noticed that for me it was because of much higher damage. Also the shotgun is all borked, but i assume that's the problem w/ it detecting multiple hits. Right now it takes forever even to kill a zombie. If there's not some way to fix that mebbe the damage shoudl be upped and the spread increased so its just a point blank crowd pleaser.

    I don't really know how the health of the beasties compares to that of people. I've got a feeling these damage levels are gonna be too low for multiplayer. You mentioned the rockets needing more damage, is there any way you could simply turn down player health overall? Because it should only be a couple good hits to kill a person, especially considering your guns have more inaccuracy than you have to deal w/ in the average fps.

    Anyway it was a blast and I'll going off to do another zombie/pig crusade now :biggrin.gif:

    Haha yeah sorry about the wot (edit: And sorry for the second wot upcoming, feel free to skip it and just summarize it as "Thanks for the awesome mod and I'm about to stroke out waiting to get my hands on it :biggrin.gif:), this just really excites me :biggrin.gif: I'm a shooter fan primarily, not that I wouldn't love a great fighting sword fighting game I just think it's a bit beyond what any but the best game physics engines can do, and even they would have a stroke trying to do it well w/ lag thrown in. Guns on the other hand you point and shoot not get up close where realistic movement and environmental interaction and interaction w/ the other entities (pc and npc) are necessary to keep from stinking up the feel of it.

    Yeah I agree the sentry isn't real high priority, its already doing what it needs to do and the legs probably will be covered by anyone who puts one down. Probably have a nice little obsidian shield around it in fact.

    And yeah the grapnel/flags setup would make above ground structures and walls a lot more feasible, with explosives working well inside them. Even if they're expensive enough to build that the average joe can't afford to just demolish every wall he comes across the smart joe can create the foothold he needs with one bit of explosives to get over said wall w/ the grapnel. Only weak point is doors, them being so weak and all :biggrin.gif: A blast door requiring a heap of steel blocks would be cool, but not necessary by any means. Still shouldn't stand up to a tnt right up against it maybe, but should soak up anything less (letting you layer them and make the enemy pay to get inside, making it the weak point in top-end all obsidian blastproof walls still though).

    As to the multiplayer yeah, if you can do it then you win awesome minecrafter of the year award. Again a client side download would be no problem for something like this, I was talking with someone whose server I play on and he said he felt about the same. I imagine a lot would, because there's at least a decent population here who has enjoyed the modding community of some shooter or another. If you could find a way to do it in a separate install then great, if not then so be it. I'd be willing to reinstall whenever I wanted to play vanilla personally. This looks more than worth it, especially if there are some good servers hosting :biggrin.gif:

    Oh and the drone was kidna a joke, but the idea wasn't really to give it any intelligence. More as just a random friendly mob that you release and it travels wherever it will like any mob. The only stipulation being it won't purposefully shoot you - if the user's got to watch out for them then fine. If something really coudl be implemented even at that level (btw a robotic chicken with a gun mount on it would probably blow the mind of many users, as they saw it hopping across the plains towards them :biggrin.gif:) then it would be a huge boon both for seeding enemy territory with harassors and for turning loose inside your own outer walls (building a two-high wall just for these fellows, or even better a two deep moat/valley so the enemy can't easily rupture the containment and wait for your dummy guards to escape naturally before attacking). If it was possible it should either mount weak weapons (perhaps only the desert eagle, perhaps requiring it to be manually fed ammunition)(honestly I'd say the same for the turrets, their utility is enough to make up for it, but I can understand why you don't) or mount stronger weapons and take enormous material wealth to build (can parts be stacked in the construct window or does it only accept one in each space? If so for a robotic drone like this I'd say make em' dump massive loads of metal parts in all blocks but center and head, with the head being the gun and the center being a good sized stack of redstone for all the wiring).

    But yeah I know that's probably pretty far future kinda stuff heh. I was just so amazed w/ the direction of this mod as compared to most stuff, which just tends to try to refine what's already there or introduce one or two new things. Sorry for the second wot. I just love mods :biggrin.gif: Wish notch would realize that if he gave client side mods and total conversions some love he'd have a blank check to write ina couple of years when peopel wanted a new minecraft platform to mod that was up to new computer specs. I mean, it worked pretty well for valve and minecraft has so much more modding potential than a simple vanilla (excellent sure but basic) shooter. Modding communities sell games better than advertisements.

    Seriously man, if you ever get this working in mp (don't care if I have to download it clientside, pure awesomesauce here) you will officially be the best minecraft modder imo. With the weapons balanced out and difficult to manufacturethis would just be an insane amount of fun. Also the auto turrets allow you to build defenses that last - the turrets protect strong materials like obsidian or brick from being hacked at long enough to be destroyed, the obsidian and brick protect the turrets long enough for them to neutralize enemies who are attacking their buddies if placed intelligently. It would be really cool if you'd add some new material such as steel reinforced concrete which are ridiculously hard to make (requiring you to make concrete, a difficult material, then make a box of that around a block of steel to get the steel reinforced stuff) that was greatly resistant to explosives and picks, something a lot more sturdy that weakly old obsidian but which would take the efforts of a large group to put down in any quantity.

    Even w/o that, though, it's insane, and I'm dying to get my hands on it. The thought of playing it sp is fun and all but playing it in multiplayer would make minecraft about perfect :biggrin.gif: It'd not only bring a great new weapon selection (btw beef up the sword so diamond one-shots people in anything but full armor to give it a use, as assasination weapon as well as just for sending in noob berserkergangs when you don't want to lose ammo and weapons :biggrin.gif:) but encourage the creation of larger organizations even in a pvp environment, since they could better capitalize on the changes made.

    Just can't say enough about htis mod. Thought I had posted here a few times but don't see them. Anyway it's amazing; if you had a stable server running this I'd pay a monthly subscription for it, that's how amazing it is. And I'm not talking five bucks either, i'd consider full mmo subscription for a guaranteed slot on a heavily populated 100 slot or so server that ran this mod and stayed up most of the time (and of course had manageable lag most of the time). Just freaking amazing man. Keep up the good work, making the first huge total conversion I've seen for minecraft. What's next, tanks and apache helicopters? :biggrin.gif:

    EDIT: I also think that the turret model looks a bit off, though tbh I dunno if it would detract from the sheer awesomeness and utility. Still though, with the little peg legs sliding around it looks weird. Something nice would be a nice big simple rectangle with the gun in a mount on top (the actual gun model in a notch/sleeve at the top maybe? Or just a simple barrel in the same fashion) and a small peg in the center at the bottom that's mostly invisible unless you get down on its level (making it possible to imagine a nice rod and gear under there). It would also probably look okay exactly the same, but on a single peg in the center instead of the legs. Or just a flat square plate on the floor. With the little legs it looks weird, but it is still awesome. Would ground based mobile hunter/killer drones be possible? :biggrin.gif:

    Yeah the server's going well, surprised there aren't more people playing. It runs really smoothly, even the few times there have been a lot online at once. The little map corruptions sucked, but everything's running smoothly and most ppl didn't lose anything. More of you should come join, it's a nice server if a little underpopulated at the time.

    Also there's this awesome new feature that makes you invisible if you die - nametag and all. So if you suck you can get back at the people who beat you by following them around until they stop and then kill them with impunity while they look around in distress for the spider which is ninja striking them.

    Seriously this is annoying. He can't figure out that he needs to disable nametags if he's gonna make pvp work (couldn't be as much work as some of the other stuff in this update, and its at least as important as most of it) but he does it for the ghosts everyone respawns as unless they have the courtesy to relog and become visible again.
