I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, since this forum seems to be overwhelmingly English speaking, but I've been studying German for two years, and I want to find a German minecraft server because it seems like a great every-day application to what we've been doing in class. I really don't think I'll be talking much, or even building. Just listening and chiming in whenever I feel as though I can add to the conversation.
However, most of the German servers I've looked at have pretty hard rules for entry, like taking a quiz based off of their website's rule list. This is frankly just beyond my capabilities because it relies on me both translating the rules 100% correctly, translating the quiz correctly 100%, and then writing the correct answer within a fairly timely manner.
So if anyone knows of/owns a server where I can enter easily (Possibly allowing me to take the quiz in English), that would be great.
Though the murder of the Milford's daughter was a setback, relations were quickly fixed when the rebel peasants were killed by their Lords. With that done, the Crown is sending out a few diplomats to officially get the northern wheat farmers into their borders. No fight is expected. The negotiations are to be simple, as there aren't any political Houses that far north, so no marriage is thought to be required. Meanwhile, House Reed sends an expeditionary force up North, occasionally stopping at wheat villages. After that, a mountain range stands between them and the main continent. Beyond that, the only people are hunter-gathers, raiders who haven't been civilized in hundreds of years.
Meanwhile, Micah offers a counter for Handea. He doesn't want the city. He's willing to drop his reign for a share of Handea's navy and army once this all over with. With that, he plans to land a force of 1,000 Handeans at the Northern Lord's doorstep. After the initial shock, House Milford's forces will handle the rest, and the Handeans are free to go back.
As House Keighley and their advisers work out the last details with the northern lords, the generals of House Reed and House Griffin are gathering forces under their own names and their king's, in the off chance that fighting breaks out with their new allies. However, there is discontent among House Milford, who offered both a daughter for marriage and a son as ward to the foreigners. Any military action taken against their new in-laws would reflect badly on their family image at best, and at worst would endanger their children.
Despite the arguments and accusations, though, both House Reed and Griffin insist that the armies are more for upcoming far-north expeditions than anything else, which the Milfords stubbornly accept. Over time though, word reaches ears that a group of northerners tried to rebel against Maitland rule. They were merely farmers, but that didn't keep them from slitting guard's throats in their sleep, or from killing the eldest daughter of Lord Griffin. Enraged, the Lord of House Griffin sends his oldest son, Micah Milford, down south to Maitland in complete secrecy. From there, he boards a trading boat visiting the Hansea Island chains.
If it's expansion that the Crown wants, it's expansion the Crown will get. They might be too spineless to stand up to fight the northerners. They might have to weak a navy to sail east and conquer. But who wasn't weak? Wasn't spineless? The Empire of Hansea.
The Keighleys begin negotiations with the Lords further north. Despite having no overall monarchy, they are able to persuade some of the major Lords to intermarry with a few of the politically influential families from Maitland. While exact lines are still being drawn out, general consensus puts Maitland's new borders around mid-way through the peninsula. From there to the main continent the only thing in their way is a few farming villages, many of which would be willing to enter the domain of the empire.
However, upon reaching the mainland, the temperature will drop, and the villages become few and far between. Any progress there will be made through expeditions rather than politics.
Magic or non magic: While the occasional common family manages to maintain magical powers through carefully arranged marriages, the majority of Maitland isn't magical. On top of this, of the few magically-capable, very few have risen very far in politics, with the only notable exceptions being House Reed and The Brotherhood of Aether. Because of this, soldiers are taught to use standard weaponry, although groups such as the Brotherhood of Aether would be more than happy to act as sellswords.
if non magic what weapons do you use: Standard soldiers are trained to use shortswords and scotums (Which I'll simply call "shields" from now on because the word "scotum" is too Latin sounding), with some of the more talented soldiers using bows. However, generals often have small, specialized units of their own, who use ******* swords and spears.
Bio of your Ruler or Empire (if you want): I'll do this later
What land you want: See the continent on the North-West part of the map? I want to start on the western-most peninsula. ALSO... If I went west far enough would I come out east? Or is this a square world?
Daniel pulled into the nearby autocenter. Immediately, the vehicle was surrounded by Fireflies. Lily's hand jumped to her holster, but was stopped by Daniel.
"Get out of the car!" A man ordered. He wore a grey beret bearing the Firefly insignia. A dull red bandana covered the rest of his face. He wore a black military vest over a grey-green patterned camouflage shirt. Daniel, Alex, and Lily climbed out of the car, leaving their guns in the seat.
Another Firefly, a woman quickly patted us over, checking for any stored hidden weapons. She found only a pocketknife in Alex's pocket, which was immediately confiscated.
"Which one of you is Daniel?" The man asked.
Daniel silently pointed toward himself. The Firefly nodded back, and tossed him a talkie.
"Talk to Wheaton. I want him to confirm your voice." The man said.
Daniel held the talkie to him mouth, "Hey, it's Daniel, and we're being held at gunpoint, so if you could just confirm that this is my voice, that'd be nice."
"Jack, would you kindly put your gun down?" Wheaton asked, "It's definitely Daniel."
The two Fireflies lowered their weapons. Daniel's other van pulled in behind them, causing the Fireflies to raise their guns again. Lily jumped between the car and their rifles, "Woah, woah, woah, they're with us. Don't shoot."
They relaxed their stance, and pointed their guns toward the floor. Only Bernie got out of the other van. It had been decided that Emma, Carolyn, and Joseph would stay back and guard the house.
The talkie clicked and whirred again.
"Now, Daniel," Wheaton began, "We've got a sniper up on a rooftop a block away, right across the street from the police station... Seeing as to how they're all inside, she won't get much of a shot, but she'll watch your back."
"And what do we do?" Daniel asked.
"You stick to my men like white on rice. Got that? You take orders from them... and we're here to clear out military. This Sam of yours ain't priority."
"But-" Daniel protested.
"You have a better plan, boy-o? We have to take care of the military before we can take care of that girl. Clear?"
"Clear." Daniel repeated, his voice hitting a deathly-low tone.
"Good... My men will be in charge of things from now on. Good luck."
Daniel had been on the road for ten minutes, searching for a way to get to the backroads behind the house. The other car hovered fifty feet behind his car. He swerved at an intersection, and saw tracks in the snow.
"Lily, hand me the talkie." He said, blindly reaching his palm out. She handed it to him. Daniel took a deep breath, and began speaking, "Wheaton, do you have any vehicles out at the moment?"
"No. We're not willing to risk it... why?"
"We found some tracks."
"If you can track them down, we'll help you take their camp; but we are NOT getting into an all out fight. I have less than ten men in good fighting condition. So if you find them, you better not just go in guns blazing... just hold up, and call us in."
"Can do."
"Thanks."
Daniel put the talkie in between the seats.
"So which way are the tracks leading?" Lily asked. Daniel didn't respond.
"One sec." Alex piped up from the back as he jumped out of the car. He walked over to the tracks, knelt down for a moment, and gestured to the right. Daniel flashed him a thumbs up as Alex clambered back into the car.
"How could you tell which way it was going?" Lily asked.
"Used to work as a trucker before the cordyceps hit. Most of those big-ol' trucks use the same type of tires I used."
"Cool!" Lily said before going off into conversation about truckers. Alex happily responded, eager to have someone that interested in his past job. Daniel pushed both of them out of his mind, and became completely alert of his surroundings. Finally, a burst of laughter from the back seats caused him to slam on the breaks.
"Quiet! Get your guns. I don't like following these tracks... feels ambushy."
They complied.
Daniel's talkie whirred to life. He picked it up without hesitation.
"Hey, Daniel, we're getting reports that the're in the police station. We've got two men stationed up near there, and they said that they're looking at two military vehicles sit 'en in the parking lot." Wheaton started.
"Where's the police station?" Daniel asked.
"Autumn Avenue... long road, lots of trees on the side. Near downtown."
"We're at downtown right now." Daniel said.
"Good... see the railroad crossing?" Wheaton asked.
"No."
"It's across the street from a pizza place... I think someone spray painted 'Down with shrooms' on it."
"Uhhhhh, Okay, I see it."
"Good, now go across the train tracks, and pull into the Dobb's autocenter. That's where are guys are."
"Thanks. Bye." Daniel said, tossing the talkie into Lily's lap.
Daniel slapped his watch, killing the alarm. Everyone else was still asleep, scattered in various positions around the room. Joseph stirred and looked up, sleep still heavy in his eyes before slumping back asleep. Daniel walked over to the window, and gazed down into the yard. For the most part, the snow had melted. It only looked to be three inches or so in the deepest spots.
Daniel knelt down and sorted through a nearby bag, pulling out and throwing on clothes as he did so. Once he was dressed, he picked out a large metal pot that they used to collect and boil water in. Normally his Dad was first awake, and got the water himself, but seeing as Daniel didn't have anything better to do, he decided to take the chore.
He was halfway through the door when he noticed Sam wasn't there.
"Joseph... Joseph..." He hissed.
"Whaaaat?" Joseph said, glaring through one eye.
"Where's Sam?"
"I don't know... practicing with the bow? She's probably just out there shooting a tree, or something." Joseph answered, shrugging.
"Thanks."
" 'ur 'elcome." Joseph replied, before instantly falling back asleep. Daniel turned in the door frame and began sneaking down the stairs, trying not to wake anyone. Upon reaching the ground floor, he noticed that the door had been completely unlocked. The furniture that would have been used to block it had been moved out of the way.
"Guess she is doing target practice..." Daniel said as he opened the door and stepped out, "I need to tell her to get us to lock the door behind her, though."
He went scooped up the nearest snow, filling the pot to the brim, and put it on the front porch. He then turned back around, and started looking for Sam. Within five seconds, he found a set of very clear tracks... they had melted all the way down to the green grass due to the recent rising temperature. He began lackadaisically following them, not expecting anything.
They led around to the opposite side of the house. As Daniel started turning the corner, he prematurely began saying, "Hey, Sam, could you please tell us you're going out bef-"
But no one was there. In fact, the tracks just led into the woods behind the house.
"What in hell was she thinking?" Daniel murmured to himself as he continued following Sam's trail. The trail faded while in the forest, never to the point of invisibility, but to the point where Daniel occasionally had to backtrack and pause while following her. After another twenty minutes of following the trail, he came to a rough country road. Her tracks ended.
All around her, though, numerous tracks converged, all of them plainly larger than Sam's miniature footprints. Most telling, though, was the small bloodstains in the snow, and the abandoned bow and quiver. Wordlessly, Daniel began a dead sprint back to the house. Within five minutes he was bursting through the door. He found the rest of his family sitting around in the loft.
"Hey," Lily opened, "What were you and Sam up to? Her pack isn't here."
Daniel choked back tears.
"She's not here... I think she left early this morning... Before anyone was up. I followed her footsteps. God, it looks like she got ambushed by bandits or something. They had a truck."
General gasps from around the room.
"God d*mnit... Fireflies! It HAD to be them!" Lily shouted. Arguments sprouted among the group. With jerky movements, Daniel yanked open the radio bag, and turned on the walkie.
"Hey, Todd... Wheaten, whatever the hell you want to be called... what did you do?" Daniel yelled into the mic. No response for thirty seconds.
"Well good morning to you too." Wheaten finally responded.
"You f*cking double crossing piece of sh*t!" Daniel said, enraged.
"I'm afraid I'm not really sure what yo-" Wheaten began.
"We. Had. A. Deal."
"Yeah, we did... we found the trucks by the way. Tons of ammo in them. Thanks." Wheaten said confidently.
"Give her back."
"Wait, what are you talking about?" Wheaten asked, curiosity creeping into his voice.
"You kidnapped Sam."
"Uh, we didn't kidnap anyone, as far as I'm aware. Did have some military roll through last night... pretty sure they were looking for our camp, but it's possible they found 'Sam'. We tried warning you last night, but no one answered."
Daniel slumped against the nearest wall, his head flopping downwards. The talkie fell to his feet. Hopelessly, he grabbed the talkie again, "And where might the military be?"
"We lost track of 'em about two hours ago. We'll try keep you posted, but we can't really do much. If it's any comfort, whenever the military comes looking for us, they usually stay for about two days at a time."
Daniel didn't reply. Instead, he tossed the talkie into his backpack, and began tromping down the stairs.
"Daniel, where are you going?" Lily asked, following him.
"I'm taking the car." Daniel said, brushing her off.
"Yeah, but why are you leaving us behind?" Lily responded.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that we're not letting you go searching without us."
Daniel smiled, "Thanks. Now let's get going... the military left us some pretty obvious tracks to follow."
