Definitely a bit of a bizarre twist today, seeing that the Bedrock Edition is getting an official Sonic modpack! Needless to say... the Java Edition isn't getting them, so I guess I'll just have to keep working on SonicCraft, huh
Hey uh, anybody got the texture pack? it wasnt anywhere i looked
I'm not sure what you mean, all of the texture packs are right there in the download. There's even a README explaining which files are the texture packs.
Just a small update, I've added an alternate link to the original post in case the MediaFire link ever goes down. Apparently inactive accounts are getting purged on MediaFire now, so it's best I have a backup.
I'm so glad to here that this project is coming back out of hiatus! A complete rebuild of the project is probably the best way to go with the vast differences that minecraft has now compared to then, and I will be patiently waiting for any and all updates. Maybe i could record playthroughs for Youtube to review it and provide feedback, if that's OK with you?
I'd be happy to let people record playthroughs of released versions though I'd prefer that incomplete versions stay with me. I've got a YouTube channel of my own, so previews of the map would come out during development regardless.
1. Will the final zones of the respective games be added before building parts of the next game?
2. will access to the final levels require all of the chaos emeralds of that game?
I've not decided yet. I've got a few ideas of large interconnected maps which I need to flesh out into a full concept - the basic idea, though, is that there'll be a lot of different paths one can take through the game now - for example, Green Hill will mainly point the player towards Marble Zone, but there'll be alternative paths the player can take depending on their progress throughout the rest of the game. Chaos Emeralds - as well as some other collectables - will determine which levels players can go to.
Hold up... Is that Bridge Zone i see in the third screenshot of Beta 2.0?
Oh my god.
Yes Jungle Zone will be included too.
People that know me outside of SonicCraft (I can't imagine there's many of you here...) will probably know that this year has been a bit of a busy one for me, so progress has been slow and occasional as always. We're getting there though, there'll be time in the future and when there finally is I want to produce that first proof of concept just so people can see SonicCraft is still going and will be for the foreseeable future.
Hello. Here's an update on the status of SonicCraft.
Over the past three or four years I've received messages from a number of people asking if they can "revive" the project. I've always responded to these people with "no thanks, I'd like to finish the map myself some day" - but I'd never actually get around to working on the map. It just got stuck in a sort of limbo - I had all these ideas for the next version of the map but they were all too much to keep track of, too overwhelming a task to approach. To make matters worse, my free time was severely effected by life and I had other projects which took priority.
I admit that after such a long wait I'd be surprised if there were really that many people left holding out for a new version. To those of you that have waited this long, though, I hope that what I'm about to propose will be a sufficient enough reward.
"SonicCraft Beta" is no more. I may continue to release compatibility updates to make it work with the latest version of Minecraft (clearly, the fact that the latest SonicCraft version isn't compatible with Minecraft 1.8 let alone whatever version the game is on now is kind of rubbish), but they're not going to be the main focus of SonicCraft from now on.
Instead, SonicCraft is now... just "SonicCraft". Instead of continuing the map where I left off, I'm going to be starting again from scratch. I'll take certain elements from the gameplay of the original - there were plenty of things I really liked about that map - but overall the design of the map is going to be vastly different. Instead of trying to incorporate all of my ideas into each release, releases will be smaller and trickle out small amounts of content each time - so instead of six new zones per update, you'll probably only see one or two. I think this'll probably help the map in the long run because it's less likely that a release will end up heavily delayed like before.
The next release will be SonicCraft 0.0.1. I plan on including just Green Hill Zone and Marble Zone for the time being. Zones will be a lot bigger from now on, and they'll blend together better instead of being small walled-off areas in an otherwise untouched landscape.
Like my 2015 updates, textures will be a lot closer to the original games instead of 16x scaled down versions of the original textures. Over time I'll be incorporating a wider range of items into the game with more interesting uses than the relatively limited ones available to us before data packs became so advanced.
As always I'll put a tentative "eventually" on the release date of the first version. I hope you'll join me when it's finally released.
If this map does ever gets updated, would you mind if i did a youtube series on it? I think it's a really neat idea and I played the current version all the way through, which is the only reason I don't want to record it as is.
hey um i play yore map and i love it altho it is a bit to hard from chemical plant zone on but it can still be playd prity good ok down to the point it has been over a year sence you have updated it her is somthing you promisd
so wer is it im not saying that you are bad im just saying that you shud probably update it kk
I mean, I do have a life outside Minecraft. There's a reason it's been over five years since I last posted an update, I just don't have the time right now to focus on it. When I get in the mood to work on the map I usually don't get very far with it.
Keep in mind that I never "promised" anything. I said "maybe", I said "eventually", and I still stand by those words. Maybe you'll see something this year. Or maybe you won't. Just wait and see.
We'll see. I just have a lot of obligations in my life right now and there's just so much you can do with map making in Minecraft that I feel a bit overwhelmed by my options. Should I decide to revive the map there'll be plenty more features than there ever was before - I'd really wanna make the revival worth it. Mania zones will be inevitable. In fact, I just found a flow chart image on my computer I made just a few months ago demonstrating how I'd implement those zones into the map, as well as a few other zones.
So, basically, it's not being actively worked on right now, but never say never.
I considered cancelling the project. And maybe I will. Minecraft hasn't been working for me recently so actually building the map is a struggle, and I came up with too many ideas without thinking deeply enough to form a coherent plan. Plus, there's some other projects I'm working on right now.
However, a new Sonic game has just been announced - and not any Sonic game, this one is made to look and play just like the originals. I've honestly never felt so excited for a Sonic game in... Well, ever. I feel like maybe it'll help reignite my passion for the project.
So here's the deal. I know support for SonicCraft has been dying a slow and painful death. But as soon as I have the time and I'm not working on other projects, I'll pick up all the pieces of the previous SonicCraft plans, try and build something coherent out of them, even if it's nothing more than a proof-of-concept, and build up from there.
And yes, I am considering Sonic Mania levels.
If you've got any questions or suggestions for the project, then ask away. Otherwise, I'll probably see you all in a few weeks with another progress update.
I wish i could contribute, but here are a few suggestions for the Resource Pack:
For Sonic 1, make the default player skin Sonic, to match the health bar.
For Sonic 2, make the default player skin Tails, to match the health bar.
For Sonic 3 (& knuckles) make the default player skin Knuckles, to match the health bar.
Instead of the bow and arrow just being a blue bow and arrow, make the texture into a ball.
That's about all i have.
I wish someone could create:
1. A Chaos Emerald mod, letting them spawn in random generated Giant Rings, bringing you to a special stage. Collecting all 7 with 50 Gold nuggets (Or whatever the rings are in the pack) lets you turn Super, with support for Resource Packs. Also with 2 types of giant rings and a Star Post, The first type of a Giant Ring, brings you to parkour with changing block texture blocks(like the first Sonic 1 special stage in green hill you made), the Star Post bringing you to a corridor with chests containing gold nuggets, and inserting them into a chest at the end, teleporting you back to the Star Post if you don't have enough rings, and giving you a chaos emerald (Sonic 2 Style) if you have enough. The second type of a Giant Ring brings you to a flat platform (but when you get to the end of the platform it teleports you back to the beginning of that direction) Where you collect blue spheres (either behaving like the rings in the sonic mod, or again, in chests), and just having them all automatically awards you with an emerald.
2. A Bosses mod, with (you guessed it) Bosses, from all 4 games. (1, 2, 3, and Knuckles)
Well, thank you for reading this whole thing (if you did) and i hope my suggestions happen.
I'm not going to be working on mods but I'll look into the texture suggestions.
Quick update on SonicCraft. No progress has been made for a few months, partially because my laptop can't seem to play minecraft anymore (the runtime environment keeps crashing and I can't figure out why). This'll obviously stunt the growth of the new version of the map but I'm determined to get at least something out soon. The current plan is:
SonicCraft Pre-release Alpha (Beta 2.0.0 - bare bones version of the map) - July 2016
SonicCraft Beta 1.5 (the texture update) - August 2016
SonicCraft pre-release Beta (Beta 2.0.1 - green hill only) - September 2016?
Dates are obviously subject to change and are optimistic at best and unrealistic at worst. But I'll see what I can do.
So idk about the Spyro 3 map, but I have a pretty good feeling that Hwd will probably want to finish SonicCraft 1 completely before he moves onto a sequel.
yeah like there will be a sequel map but it'll probably be years away from now.
As for the spyro map, it was gonna be more of a recreation rather than a map like SonicCraft. But we'll see what happens (if it even happens)
No. i try the setworldspawn its not working my friend have download my test map but its not working
/setworldspawn only changes the initial spawn point, so if you've already got another checkpoint set either using a bed or the /spawnpoint command, then it's not going to appear to work. It could also be that commands aren't enabled on your world.

I wouldn't mind at all. I encourage playthroughs!

Eventually! But it won't be any time this year. Maybe next year!

Easter eggs, as in the kind you find around easter? Or like secrets in games? There's always going to be more easter eggs
