Crafting a bookshelf as we do now would still produce already-filled bookshelves like we have today, that are easy to stack and use for enchanting.
Crafting a bookshelf without using books in the crafting recipe (and placing the planks as normal) would create an empty bookcase, which could be used as book storage (but still stackable)

The event I speak of, is, of course, the ceasefire of the Great War between members - those who oppose additions and those who are in favour. The battlefields are silenced, the blazing guns of verbal battles are quietened to be replaced with quiet celebration and constructive suggestions.
It is on this day that the community has come forth with open arms and openly shared their pleasure at the additions of a new snapshot, the additions of the jungle biome and zombie AI, among other things. There has been no arguing, no hate directed at other man, and no insults have been aimed at others.
You and I both know these times of serenity will not last, and the fighting will resume again at the call of a new day, but for now, come and join me in celebrating a monumental day in the history of these forums.
20/01/12 - Snapshot 12W03A
Never forget.

Certainly not a traditional ending, where every thing is finished, wrapped up, done. But they often have an optional storyline or end scenario, and allow the player to keep playing instead of losing the world they have altered and shaped the way they want it.
Yes, I suppose I could, provided the story campaign is finished. You have free roam in most of the games.
Definitions of 'sandbox':
It has nothing to do with structure, continuous world, instancing, etc. It is all about you making your own fun and goals. The game does not make these for you or lead you around by the hand.
Those games are NOT RPGs (except Skyrim, obviously. That probably wasn't a great addition to the list). You don't level up, you don't gain skills, there's no decision making, you don't upgrade weapons and armour. These ARE sandbox games, you CAN create your own objectives, there is NOTHING pushing you towards an endgame scenario, except maybe a (completely optional) story. Wanna ignore RDR's story? Sure, go ahead, screw around in the world. Provided you have the money, everything is available to you. No need for that pesky Gun-Cleaning skill to level up before you can upgrade your guns, because there isn't one.
So you're going to convince me that GTA isn't a sandbox game?
Eh, not really. Your logic seems to be crumbling. Open your eyes and you'll see the vast majority of games are linear gameplay that have a set finish, forcing you to start again or stop playing the game. Note I said it's an OPTIONAL end in sandbox games, and OPTIONS have no part in most games today.
And thank you for proving my list's legitimacy. Just Cause 2 lets you bring your 'heat' level way up, changing the game and making you more cautious around the gameworld. It changes the environment, though I admit it's not the strongest contender in the list. In Assassin's Creed, feel free to set your own goal and raise your Notoriety level, changing the way you play the game. Or you could be cautious and act from the shadows, assassinating and then slipping back into darkness before anyone notices.
Skyrim doubles as a sandbox game, as you can alter the game world (try FUS RO DAHing at a shelf or table and you'll see) and also raise bounty, etc. Absolutely no linear gameplay, except for the beginning scene. Red Dead Redemption lets you raise honour and change the gameworld and how people react to you, etc.
Perfect example of actual sandbox games...
Yes, they are sandbox games, but I find it ironic that Terraria has an 'ending', so by your logic it shouldn't be on that list.
And now we come back to the main point: Minecraft has no 'set' objective. That's all there is to it. And frankly, I'd have to call you (regretfully) a fool if you were to try and convince me otherwise.

You are standing by a fact? Woah, I should be 'reliefed'. Not only is it dismissed, now it's a FACT that Citrusz0rz meant the official release.
At no point in his post did Citrusz0rz even hint that the NPC's will be done by the final release. He only stated that he knows that they will be updated eventually. Please don't assume or put words in people's mouths.
Also, in regards to the NPCs, as a poster above me stated, NPCs were released in the pre-release a day after their models were even finished. And you know why they were a last-minute addition?
Because the forums WHINED and BEGGED and COMPLAINED about the empty villages, and Notch, trying to please the masses, released a very early test of the villagers.
And now he's got his priorities sorted out and chosen that some of the other additions to the game are more important. I certainly wouldn't say the NPCs are a gigantic hinging point of the game.
A 'end' to the game is much more important, progression-wise. Strongholds will always be infinitely more useful than the villages. So they are being put before the villages.
Sit tight, I have no doubts Notch will improve on the NPCs sometime soon after release.

Maybe we will finally get some creepy sound effects/distortions when an Enderman stares at us as we have been suggesting for ages!
I'm also impressed he's managed to incorporate so many different sound files for just one mob. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Congratulations. You just completely ignored them.
He/she specifically said that all spawners, as soon as you pick them up, legit or not, become pig spawners when you place them down. All. Of. Them.
No need to be overly sarcastic to people when you're the one at fault. It won't earn you much of a reputation here.

Well, then, you can stick with the crappy way phases look on a square moon, or, better yet, not have phases at all and have no indication of what phase is occurring when!
You have fun over in your corner alone, now!

Well, that's just it - it might be a Portal reference, meaning that there is no surprise :/
I guess only time can tell...

So, what do you think it might be? The next pre-release? A teaser image of a new feature? Tell us what you think in the comments.
This post will be updated when full details are revealed.
EDIT 1:
Looks like it's already been let loose, now we just need to find it!

...And? Why do you want their heads shrunk?
Your argument is that Mojang isn't putting enough time and thought into their ideas, and so they are less serious.
IF Notch and Jeb weren't serious with these animals, or were joking around, they wouldn't look like that.
If they were lazy, the models would simply be a typical cow, pig, etc but shrunken down to a ratio. Their heads would not be bigger. They would just be the same exact model. And do you know what? People would complain. You would come onto this thread and complain about it. You would argue that they were lazy and didn't put enough thought into it.
But they were not lazy, and this is the result. By saying you want the heads to be scaled down, you're essentially saying you want them to be a mere ratio of the normal animal.
And isn't that the exact thing you're going against? You want thought to be put into the ideas. You take that away by complaining.
And thought obviously has gone into the baby animals, because they don't drop anything when killed. Notch and Jeb obviously thought about balance and how to improve breeding before they implemented them. Don't forget the high-pitched noises, too. So your 'serious' argument has failed with this addition.
Also, I've found these forums, for the most part, love the addition of baby animals and how they look. Again, you're in the minority. And I think any more points you bring up will fall on deaf ears, as most people have stopped taking you seriously anyway.
Much love,
Huddo
