I'd give it an 8. I don't think its the "best" game.. that would be almost impossible for me to nail down among my favorites.. but despite its limitations it still gets played at least once a day for me.

Rip the oak wood roof off of my Japanese style house and replace it with spruce. Then start gathering wool like mad from the massive pen of rainbow colored sheep I have gathered this week.

Am I the only one that likes the new gravel texture? It looks like little grey stones. The current texture looks like old Jpeg compression noise.

never dig straight down? but, that's how i start my branch mining! yeah i know it is risky to dig straight down, but i go slow, keep sound up to listen for lava and take around 70 ladders with me (or a number equal to Y value on map) then if im lucky enough to escape firey death, it's ore galore!

What I do, dig down one block, then dig down two blocks beside the one you're standing on, hop into that hole and repeat untill you have a 2x1 block shaft. That way you're always digging with a solid block under your feet so if you hit lava, a ravine or something, you can always see it before you're falling in it. I always carry two stacks of ladders and build a shaft like this in the back of my houses for branch mining, lining both sides with ladders so people can come and go without shoving each other up and down.

As for one tip? Chop down tons of wood and make a stack of charcoal. Its nice to have a bunch of torches before you go down into caves where most of the real coal is.

... what do spawn eggs have to do with villages?

You can build your own village, or expand existing ones, and toss villager spawn eggs into the houses to fill them out.

Really bummed out about no Jungle biomes.. I've held back on doing more than fooling around in Creative waiting for TU9 to include the last Biomes, and now its going to take longer? Unless they give us something a lot more interesting than the End in TU9, like the multicolored wood items, corner stairs, upside down stairs/slabs or some neat stuff from further along the PC update line (Beacons, Item Frames, Pots, etc.) then I'll probably just hang up my pickaxe till TU10.

And its not even about Jungles themselves. Even if we don't have the Ocelots and such, once we have the final biome, any further updates should be able to apply to an existing world, barring them creating some new biome exclusive to us. So after Jungles, I can safely invest Survival mode time and effort again. I know, I can always "start a new world". Believe me, Ive had a lot of them. I know thats a part of the game. But I'm ready to find one, perfect seed and settle down to really make use of it safe in the knowledge that it won't become obsolete.

Paying to play a knockoff of a game I already own? Thanks, but no thanks. Frankly this whole thing sounds very fishy.

They have said they are working on Texture Packs for a future update. Even if they can't use the ones people have released already, there are two that I'd LOVE to see on Xbox.

As far as skins go, they'd only get in legal trouble for selling copywritten skins without approval. If a game provides an editor that lets players create their own characters/art for free, there's no problem. Otherwise, games like Soul Calibur and Forza would be in very hot water indeed.

That being said, with free updates to the game itself, skin packs are the only real continued revenue source 4J has, other than new buyers of the game, and a skin editor would undermine those sales. So I wouldn't expect to see one.
